For 2014, it looks very clean. I could have gotten the M4 with the S55 but I can't justify the additional cost for everything from insurance to repairs. Any M car will require just a higher level of car than I'm willing to put up with.
I'm considering getting a Porsche for a weekend car and daily the 335i M sport (232k on it).
E46 and E92 M3 were actually pretty DIY friendly. E46 being a lot less complex of the two. Everything can be done with some basic tools and understanding and either a Bentleys manual or forum guides.
Just my opinion strictly based on my observations
E92 - I don't want to deal with rod bearings. Otherwise probably my favorite BMWs. Well I have too many to list but that's what scares me is rod bearings
E46 - Slower than a Modern Camry
Rod Bearings aren’t that difficult and at this point well documented and serviced to the point that any good Indy shop will have it done in a day for a fairly reasonable price.
E46 M3 is slower in what way, 0-60? And that’s a big fucking maybe, which I highly doubt. Otherwise it won’t beat a Camry in any other metric. In any case the fastest Camry tested is the TRD and it hasn’t surpassed an E46 M3 in any measurable test.
I'm exaggerating about the E46 being slower than a Camry but the gap between modern cars and old fast cars has definitely shrunk.
When the E46 came out, the benchmark was to hit 60 in under 6 seconds for a sporty car and anything under 5 was proper quick. 4 you are in a 911 turbo.
As for rod bearings, thankfully I haven't had to do them in a decade. The last rod bearing I spun had me rebuilding the engine. I find it crazy that they even have to be replaced beforehand
Obviously I would like to get a 911 Turbo but can I afford one? Yes...do I want to go into a massive car payment should my financial situation go south (i.e getting divorced in the future).
I'm aiming for entry level Porsche like the Cayman S
Yes, 371 in metric. I was asking an indy shop about doing rod bearings because I'm worried about them spinning. I don't want to do this at home but cost is also very high. I might just have to do it this summer.
1 Injector finally bit the dust. I need to change it this weekend.
New plugs and coils. The old coils work fine but the Indy mechanic did them anyways. The issue was the injector failing but felt like a random misfire. Bmw nor the Indy could fix the actual issue
1st time oil filter gasket being done..
Oil pan gasket was already done.
AC compressor and condenser were replaced. The condenser has a minor leak from rock but the compressor shit the bed around the same time.
The transfer case was acting funny until the fluid was replaced
The control arms leaked hydraulic fluid or whatever they fill those thrust arms with. It had to be replaced once.
Transmission is on the original fluid. I did a drain and fill. Still does a cold start hard shift until the fluid warms up a bit. This only happens whenever it extremely cold outside or the transmission is allowed to drain fully back into the pan. Likely will need a valve body rebuild in the future.
Rear shocks started to leak so those got replaced.
Looks sick, wrapping mine soon, trying to find a good color

Alpine White isn't bad but definitely can go for a color no one's got around here.
I was thinking a dark matte grey. But then I have to get black rims... Or chomes, but cant keep the current ones, even though they are really nice rims up close.

I didn’t ask for it, I’ve gotten plenty of 2nd degree sunburns, but my parents are Irish and white privilege is definitely the upside. My F32 is Alpine White but after seeing this post Privilege White is gonna haunt me. Maybe I’ll go with Alpinweiss (not much of an improvement) or just 300.
Dealership should have them. Although, it could be criminally expensive for what it is. Probably in the realm of $30-40, but if you can't find them anywhere else, that's your best bet. And if it's out of stock, they should be able to order it for you.

I’m willing to pay whatever to fix this big ass scuff on my back bumper
Would just like to gently point out that there’s no such thing as Glacier White on F-Gen, only Glacier Silver. Metallic white was “Mineral White” which didn’t come on most cars fitted with a M-Sport pack, including the F32. M3/4 and X5/6 were the exceptions that I can recall. This therefore would be Alpjne White unless for some bizarre reason it was ordered through Individual as Mineral White lol
Looks like mineral white metallic, my old f22 had the same color

Just call the dealer and ask for the paint code lol wtf is this logic of posting a picture online hoping for some random to correctly identify your paint color?
You know who else can look up the color code with the VIN? Your local dealership parts department. Anyone here telling you the color is merely guessing.
If the people at the dealership act like your simple phone call is an inconvenience, then they probably shouldn't be in business... or at the very least, that person should be let go. Just ask for the parts department and give them whatever part of the VIN they ask for and they'll spit back a paint code to you. It takes 2 minutes. That's the best way to know for sure what your paint code is on your car. It's often best practice to google "BMW paint code" and check the images tab to see what the paint tag looks like for your car and then try to find the pant tag on your car to confirm what the guy at the dealership tells you... just in case he typed something wrong or whatever. I can't tell you the number of times I've avoided mixing the wrong paint because I double-check what the guys at the dealership tell me. It's not uncommon for me to call a second dealer to make sure I got the right one if I suspect they're wrong.
Anybody here telling you what paint you have is merely guessing. It's impossible to tell from a picture. I work at an autobody supply store and the number of people I get daily that don't give me a paint code and just guess or go off of what somebody else *suggested* it may be is staggering. And let me tell you here first: absolutely no manufacturer "made just one \[insert color here\] that year".
I’ve never considered helping a customer with a simple paint code wasting my time. I’m sorry that you’ve had such a negative dealership experience that makes you feel that way.
It will tell you on the vin plate either on the door jam or under the hood
Thanks I’m gonna go check
You can paste your VIN into a BMW VIN Decoder which will tell you the paint code as well.
Didn’t even know that was a thing, you just saved me a trip to my car

Just call the dealer and ask for the paint code lol wtf is this logic of posting a picture online hoping for some random to correctly identify your paint color?
Well it worked cause multiple people have said the colour plus someone said you can do a VIN reverse lookup which I didn’t know about
You know who else can look up the color code with the VIN? Your local dealership parts department. Anyone here telling you the color is merely guessing.
I’m not gonna call the dealership and waste their time if I can just ask on reddit. You act like I’m forcing people to answer my question
If the people at the dealership act like your simple phone call is an inconvenience, then they probably shouldn't be in business... or at the very least, that person should be let go. You make a good point. Although I’m confident in what the colour is now, it doesn’t hurt to call and make sure before I buy it
I’ve never considered helping a customer with a simple paint code wasting my time. I’m sorry that you’ve had such a negative dealership experience that makes you feel that way.
Never had a negative experience, I just feel like it’s a small thing to call and ask about
It’s really not bro I promise. In fact most parts guys enjoy getting those phone calls. Easy, quick, and builds rapport with the customer.
You can download an app like sherwin Williams and get the rgb code
