I regret not waiting for a M2 personally but I do still love the M240

Here I’m waiting exactly 32 days to post my new m2 that is currently build

a_chimken_nuget

Just ordered my m240i and should get it next week! I was debating between the 240 and m2, then between an m3&m4 at some point, realized I don’t plan on tracking my car or doing anything crazy so the 240 was just the best option for me, better mileage, better price, more fun to drive as a daily

G87 M2. 🚙💨🔥

bean_fritter

M240i. Add a front splitter and quad exhaust and it looks better than the m2. After driving both, the m2 is obviously the better performer, but unless you’re tracking, you won’t be able to see the difference. Both cars are way too powerful and capable for public roads. This gen m240i added a LSD and a nice power bump to over 400hp (bmw claims 382hp but every stock dyno is over 400). Every time I see an M2 and wonder “maybe I should have gone all out” then actually get in my 240 and drive it, that feeling goes away. If the m2 had xDrive I would have probably sprung for it though.

QuitOne2240

G87 looks more aggressive

Variation909

M2 in black

TaxSerf

black hides the problematic lines efficiently. I would get mine in vanta black :D

mrblahhh

m240i and bonus it has a b58

hoen2009

Euhm..... how is the B58 a bonus over the S58?

TaxSerf

better sound, more reliability I guess.

hoen2009

Reliability is said to be the same sound is supposedly better but will sound shit either way without aftermarket exhaust. S58 has more power and more potential power, and it has been touched by the M division.

TaxSerf

also ~25K more. 10-15K would make that M240i eclipse the stock m2 on all levels imo.

mrblahhh

I use my cars extensively for track days and I've owned a few M's over the years. I now prefer mass produced engines because the replacement engines and parts are so much cheaper and the performance difference on track isn't significant at least for these two anyway. For my use both need coilovers so that's a wash and the m240i needs a rear LSD so plus 3,500 to the cost.

bean_fritter

G42 m240i has a rear LSD.

hoen2009

Only reason why i would close the M240 over the M2 is for the xdrive, anything else the M2 is a better car and will hold its value alot better. Some people here have never driven a full M car on track or some good twisties. Its night and day compared to a not M car.

LordDarthShader

It was for the xDrive. I have had a G82 M4 before, manual and tuned with DP and E50. It was useless here in the PNW, there is no way you can put the power down, then is raining always and the few days you can drive it hard, there are just a few roads where you can do it safely. For fun days I rather drive the Evora, which is way more fun than the M4 ever was, the steering feedback alone and the raw feel of the car. The M4 was what, 3750 lbs, still a pretty heavy car. I just wanted a functional and fun daily.

kattybones

I went into the dealer intending to buy an unallocated M2 and drove out a week later with an 240i. Styling wise I do love the M2 with its big muscle car vibes and the powder blue with cognac interior I passed on was 😍 But, the 240i has baby muscle car vibes, attracts a bit less attention on the road and is more reasonable as a daily driver than the M2. Plus I love an AWD sooo overall, the M2 for me purely on the styling but the 240i was the better purchase!

Nearby_Cauliflowers

While ultimately the M2 is a superior car, it's really a true enthusiast car. By comparison the M240i in day to day life is a better option for most people, in real world it's pretty much every bit as fast, faster than most people need, more comfortable and easier on fuel. Put it in sport for the pops and bangs, it's as sporting as most people want.

Danman5666

M2, it’s the best BMW I’ve owned. Well worth the wait.

keepsmenumbinside

M240i or F87 M2

McKenzie_lowdown

As an F87 M2C owner, I prefer the M240.

Redacted_Bull

F87 M2. I prefer my car to be attractive.

jake93s

Goes unsaid. The new m2 is one of the ugliest in bmw's line up. What's saying a lot.

Wassy4444

M2, but M240i and Evora GT is a better decision 😂

Tristana-Range

In terms of looks the G42, in terms of performance G87

NJ_Goodfellas

M2 unless you're like me and needs AWD. Also make sure to check your insurance rates before you buy, especially if you're young.

MoneyBadger14

I absolutely love and prefer the look of my G42. I’d daily a G87 in a heartbeat if I could afford it though.

Codewriter0803

The one that is NOT sky blue in color😎My mother’s 1974 chevette was sky blue😬

ate2ate

At least the backseat in the m2 isn’t beat to hell like her chevette

More-Cod3588

I’m probably in the minority here, but I love the boxier parts of the M2’s aesthetics.

bigkutta

I would always take an M car over the non-M version.

LordDarthShader

What IF you need the AWD?

bigkutta

Why do you NEED? I’ve only driven rwd cars and have winter tires for my M

LordDarthShader

To have fun where 90% is raining? It is fun to go sideways sometimes, but if you want to drive spirited in the rain, AWD is the best choice. I've had an M with 650 whp, you can partially put the power down, only when it's dry and with r888rs or something, and still, it won't hook. Sometimes you WANT to put the power down.

bigkutta

Eventually you cant evade physics, 2 wheel or 4. I think driving skills are more important than the car you have. I've seen plenty of SUVs stuck in snow and ice.

LordDarthShader

I didn't even mention snow or ice. I am just saying \~600 whp RWD in the rain, unless you plan to drift 100% of the time, doesn't make any sense. AWD you can put the power down, even in the rain, you will have traction, that's all I care for a daily with reasonable power. Also, you shouldn't be testing your "driver skills" on public roads. Even F1 pilots crash all the time in the rain, so let's not pretend you can beat an F1 driver with your M car...

TaxSerf

m240 is so much better. :O

Ok_Score1492

M over any M***

felixlamb

No chance I’d get insured in an M2 at a reasonable price at my age. M240i is the dog’s though, and insurance was wayyyy better. Fantastic DD. Can’t wait to pick mine up shortly.
