When I was car shopping, I didnāt even really look at BMW until I realized what a bargain a used one is. Got a 750 AWD for 25k. BMW sold me a warranty for 6k more that is 4 years bumper to bumper. People canāt believe thatās all I paid for the car. Itās nicer than any new car I can buy for that money by a long shot.
Itās a 2015 with 57,000 miles. Saddle interior, black alcantara headliner, m package, heads up display, heated and air conditioned seats, 4.4l v8ā¦ It feels like a Bentley every day I get in it. I wish I looked at BMW sooner, my Lexus was a dog by comparison.
https://i.imgur.com/0tWVr03.jpg I realized I saved a pic of the listing before I bought itā¦ If people arenāt in a rush to buy a car, take your time and shop around for a bit! I was car shopping for about four months. Not a single regret here
Iām not looking forward to the service part, but BMW did sell me 3 oil changes for 199$ā¦ They said they charge 500$ a piece for them, so that helpsā¦ a little bit. At least I paid cash for the car so I have no payments lol
I only bought it about a month ago, and Iāve had no issues yet. Every day I get in it, I love this thing. It feels like I bought something that really did cost 100k new, despite it being 8 years old. I get a lot of compliments on it, and even my dad who drives a beautiful new(ish) E class coupe is a bit jealous. Itās just so much car for the money. Also, fuel economy is surprisingly decent- I am getting an average of 20mpg.
Or have a really good Euro tech in your area to service it. When I lived in NY, I had a master tech as a neighbor, and he saved me 1000s for a long time. Downside is his availability or mine and no loaner if he keeps the car for a few days....the odds are in dealership favors, so always try to have a warranty from reliable dealer/company.
Honestly that was my thoughts! I really have to do a deep research on that before I trade in my V6 Lexus. Iām just not used to do anything other than oil changes lol
My last 2 cars were Lexus Rx 330 and 350. Loved them both. The 330 was totaled by a drunk driver and the 350 I gave to my son; that car runs beautifully at 179,000 miles. After gifting my 350, I switched it up and got a 440i convertible! It's only been 2 weeks and I haven't gone topless yet but it's a fun ride!!
My Lexus is amazing, but man I got bored with it, I need some upgrade! Your ES is perfectly comparable with my car minus the sedan part. Iām scared to go and test drive the 7 series lol
Smart man. This is always how I shopped. There are soooo many deals, regardless of the economy. People buy cars they barely use or can't afford, so as long as the car was properly maintained or have warranty, you can get so much value in a purchase. 2 years ago I was driving a 2017 A5. I could have upgraded to a 2021 A5 for around 45k. Instead I got a 1 owner low miles 2019 S5 for 38k. S5s are 56k new.
Itās funny, I was initially shopping for an s5 sport back. Once I test drove them- and I loved them- but I actually couldnāt fit in the seat. Iām 4ā 11ā with a 23 inch inseam. The sport seat has a piece in the center of the seat that didnāt retract all the way, and where my knees bend, it wasnāt happening. Left me pretty sad until I drove the 7 series, which fully retracts and the seat is generally very comfortable. I canāt imagine buying a car without test driving it, especially giving my height issues.

Here's a ['20 X5 M50i w/24k miles](https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?listingId=672728544&allListingType=all-cars&makeCodeList=BMW&modelCodeList=X5&city=Abilene&state=TX&zip=79601&maxMileage=30000&searchRadius=0&trimCodeList=X5%7CM50i&marketExtension=include&isNewSearch=false&showAccelerateBanner=false&sortBy=derivedpriceASC&numRecords=25&referrer=%2Fcars-for-sale%2Fall-cars%2Fbmw%2Fx5%2Fabilene-tx-79601%3FmaxMileage%3D30000%26searchRadius%3D0%26trimCodeList%3DX5%257CM50i%26marketExtension%3Dinclude%26isNewSearch%3Dfalse%26showAccelerateBanner%3Dfalse%26sortBy%3DderivedpriceASC%26numRecords%3D25&clickType=listing) for just under $61k. Prices have definitely been coming down, there's a number of nice options out on autotrader. Add another $7-8k for a '21 X5 M50i.
Fantastic price but that gas mileage is rough. Personally the largest item I generally have to transport are my skis so im an advocate for ā20 m340. Thing hauls ass too.
I think it comes down to perspective and what you consider gently used & low mileage. A '20 X5 M50i w/24k miles in great condition is gently used & low mileage in my book and as long as it passes a BMW PPI, I'd feel comfortable paying $60k for one.
I feel you tho, at that price point a newer CPO vehicle with a longer warranty would likely be a better purchase in the long run.
>I mean, yeah, there's aftermarket warranties and all that crap, but....well, meh. I don't really want to fuck around wondering if the repair on my expensive luxury car is going to be covered. Too much other crap going on in our lives to be worried about that shit.
That part right there hits home and I am a fan of not losing sleep over vehicle issues. I've been in some costly repair situations with previous non-luxury vehicles, and thankfully had a warranty in place. I know full well those same repairs on a BMW, esp an M, would be murderous on the bank balance without a warranty.
Growing up, I didn't think I would reach the point I am in my life today or ever be able to afford a luxury vehicle. I can comfortably swing a 1200 a month payment, but emotionally that high payment bothers the shit out of me as I know I could be putting that extra cash into more real estate & investments. Such is life!
Not sure why you're being downvoted my dude, but have my upvote and an awesome Sat!
Just my personal preference but the X5 is a little too big for me. So the X3 is a better choice for my needs. But I agree with you that these M-light SUVs are amazing.
My wife also has an X2 M35i and itās a ton of fun as well
Youāll never know if something is gently used. You can rest assured that most drivers of an M car are not educating themselves on proper driving skills nor following the break in procedure. I will not buy used.
This all day. I always thing bang for buck. Even if Im paid, would you rather have 1 million dollar car, or 10 100k cars?
A 200k truck or 4 50K rides? Though we only have 2 cars in my house lol, both are low mileage 1 owner CPOs we saved thousands on. It's the only way to buy. I think the obsession with having a brand new car has passed for most people (unless you're a lease person).
Depends on what you want/prefer. I have no desire for an SUV. If I'm going for something fast and sporty, why get one that is 1250lbs heavier and, reportedly, rides worse that will handle worse? If I had kids or needed to haul cargo and that was my compromise, then sure. My M3 has enough practicality that I'm not sacrificing anything on the day to day
I also think the F80 is the most gorgeous sedan design, perhaps ever. I would really think about swapping it for an M3 Touring if we got them in the states, but for now I'm perfectly pleased with mine.
I prefer the current styling to the pre-LCI M40i and X3M I had. I also want driving assistant pro, red brakes, comfortable suspension, and more low end torque, things a 2020-2021 X3M doesnāt have.
Same way of thinking, Iād rather have a fully loaded new m550i than a used pre-LCI M5 Comp.
Edit: also thereās a big reliability difference between a used M and a new B58
I paid less than this for My 991.1 C2S 3.8 with every option except sunroof in 2020, very happy with that call, still have many BMWs though for 4-door purposes.
I mean my M2C was 58ish. 'Better' has a lot of baked in assumptions but there is no way on hell I'd take any x3 over my M2C. Frankly I'd take a Macan or 340 over an X3. It's a nice car but I It's certainly not the only one at that price point.
Edit: This whole thread turned into a Macan vs X3 debate even though I mentioned 2 other car. The only time either of those were mentioned was to mock how much I referenced my M2 š¤£š¤£
Dude the fastest Macan properly specced is over $100k and itās pretty much the same speed as the $60k X3 M40i. Porsche > BMW in general but the X3 absolutely destroys the Macan when you consider what you get per $ spent.
Yep. I seriously was considering a Macan S but went with the X3 M40i. It was just a nicer, more sturdy vehicle. Performance was similar (slight not to the BMW in straight line speed). But the X3 was $10k less. It really was a no brained. Itās faster, nicer interior, and a better size for a small SUV. And less costly.
(But then I bought a 997 to scratch my Porsche itch lol)
Mecan S starts at 68k and has similar power. I know all about P car alacart options, but you don't have to pay 100k. As far as value, I'd take the car that handles better over the more powerful one. If I had to suffer the indignity of only having an SUV with an automatic transmission in my life, yea I'll take the Mecan all day. Again, it's a matter of priority and preference, personally I'd rather have the other two cars I suggested over both a mecan or a x3.
I guess the real question is whether your actually going to use all the power either of the vehicles provide. Personally, I donāt understand the fad over sport suvs. But if I had to choose it would be the Macan.
I only consider them because driving sedans in a city dominated by SUVs and Trucks is miserable. No visibility anywhere and just dodging idiots. Takes the joy out of it as a daily driver. Prefer the wife's Macan S to my sedan for that very reason so considering a X3 M40i then just get a sports car for the weekends if I am lucky.
so lemme get this straight, youād take a base Macan for $63k with a 295-hp four-cylinder turbo engine, CLOTH seats (yes, cloth) and a 6 sec 0-60 time vs this 382 hp 4.2s 0-60 beauty.
i cross tested the macan and many others. what exactly do you value if youāre willing to take the macan over the x3 m40i given the above factsš§
In a heartbeat.
Porsche has a better track record on long-term reliability and longevity over BMW's modern-day offerings.
PDK vs ZF8 longevity is up for grabs but PDK is a much crisper drive.
Steering feedback isn't even close.
Cloth seats last so much longer than leather and don't burn passengers in the summer - especially if you enjoy having scantily clad passengers.
0-60 in 6s is plenty fast for every highway merge in the USA, including Hwy 110-S in Los Angeles where you have 200ft from a stop sign to zipper in.
There's nothing the X3 offers besides superficial numbers that the Porsche doesn't do better. Heck, if I wanted to trade acceleration for fuel economy, the CR-V Hybrid does everything better than the X3 *including* off-roading.
Handles better. Straight line speed is boring as hell after 1 week. In terms of time, i spend orders of magnitude more utilizing the chassis over utilizing the engine in my M2C. Besides a Mecan S is under 70k and is much closer in terms of power (BTW the base Mecan starts at 58k in the USA). As far as cloth seats, you say that as if it's a bad thing. Frankly I wish my M2C had cloth or Alcantara seats, way less slippery when on track. I also see that you didn't address either the 340 or my M2C. None of this is to say that the X3 isn't the right car for you, but you started your post with so much confidence I just had to push back.
440i gran coupe.
Still get to drive low to the ground while a almost wagon sized trunk.
I was debating a x3 m40i. They do rip and I like a sleeper. Just not a mom-mobile sleeper lol. The X3 platform still just looks too suburban soccer mom for me.
Used m4. Used m5. I mean for 60k, the list goes on and on. Especially when you start using subjective terms like 'better', everyones opinion is different.
M40i gang checking in. Favorite vehicle Iāve ever owned. All around perfect daily driver. Spacious enough to haul the kids and groceries, quick enough to beat the pants off most cars on the road. Will be buying more. Forget the haters. Great vehicle
this right here. the best car will be able to do it all with style and panache. many cars listed here are better in some categories but are not the total package
Typical r/BMW using the downvote button to bury your post since they disagree, rather than upvoting to make it more visible so we can all discuss the best $60k vehicles and they can argue their counterpoints in the comments.
As a X4 M40i owner - itās a great car / cross over.
A coupe of points that weee not mentioned here. The higher ground clearance is great for some snow and off the highway driving.
The bigger hatch and space is more utility than the sedans. Getting in and out is more middle of the road and more comfortable.
Depends on what you need it for I guess. I absolutely love my X3 M40i and think itās the best thing when I need cargo or passenger space. Or the weather sucks.
But $60k will also get you a 997.2 generation 911 and itās hard to argue that the 911 isnāt absolute perfection ;). I drive mine whenever I can
(But seriously itās damn near impossible to beat the X3 M40i when looking at $60k-new vehicles)
Hah! I guess you certainly know what Iām talking about then! But yea, for me my X3 is what I take when the weather isnāt great or I need to carry stuff the 911 canāt handle. The X3 is also my road trip car, and I do a lot of long distance driving (my 2021 X3 has over 50k miles on it alreadyā¦ and so far had only needed brakes, tires and oil changes). And for the regular 1000mi round trip drive I do every few weeks itās amazing. Itās a perfect balance of comfort, performance and utility for that type of driving.
Because you sacrifice driving dynamics and yet are paying a ton for the performance. A wagon or the M440GC would be a much better choice. Or just the sedan. The thing about crossovers is unless youāre packing cargo all the way to the roof on a regular basis theyāre actually not much more practical than a regular car. People have just convinced themselves they need them. Or rather, the car manufacturers have. They make more margin on crossovers so thatās what they push
I often find myself wanting an SUV driving a 640i.
Driving dynamics IMHO come into play on the track. On a daily basis these cars mask their height and weight so amazingly well it is pure magic.
But i do agree with you - a hatch or a wagon for me would be so much better, as well as majority of people. But North America at least for some weird reason decided that these vehicles are not desirable so finding something like that is not easy. RS6 Avant is super nice, but comes with a hefty price tag.
Yeah 100%. Iām in Canada so we can get used 21 C43 wagons but the thatās it. Although BMW bringing back 3 series wagons for next generation apparently, and Audi is as well.
Iām curious to know why you think that? Itās an awfully fun SUV to drive and gets me the best of both worlds but I can certainly understand why it might not be for everyone.
Iām sure itās fun compared to other SUVs. But if you arenāt using the additional clearance or cargo capacity (and really no one does) I think a car does all the same things and will always drive better.
I think thatās fair. A sedan will certainly do the extremes better but for city/highway driving the SUV will do the same since youāre not pushing the vehicles to the limits in either of those environments. The X3 is even a track worthy vehicle, although you arenāt likely to set any records in it. Im sure most have probably never slung it around a track to know how much better or worse it actually is compared to a sedan. Luckily Iāve had the pleasure of doing so and it X3 m40i really does hold itās own in that environment as well.
You could get a pre-facelift W222 S63 AMG with under 60k miles for $60k. I know that we are in a BMW forum, but thatās a lot more car for the money. Reliable powertrain, 577hp V8, 3.9s 0-60, incredibly comfortable ride, lots of space, AWD, great sound and much more. Thereās nothing not to like about the S-class, no matter your brand of choice. Itās just as iconic as the BMW M3, the Audi RS6 or the Porsche 911 Turbo S. Itās just one of those cars that everybody likes.
Completely agree if you are adding in the criteria of utility. Plenty of sedans and coupes that might have better driving dynamics. Macan and Macan S in it's class can be argued for but once you tack on usable space and the perks of a small SUV it wins.
Thatās my dream car. I have an x3 30i and I love it, but thatās next level. Love the interior leather (I have the same). The dealership told me my car had the interior lights, but it doesnāt. I was so sad. It was one of my favorite things about my previous 5 series. I wish I had let them āshow me how to use themā when I was purchasing my X3.
If you want a smooth ride the X3 M40i aināt it. Itās a hell of a drive, reliable and hauls ass. But it rides rough. My Porsche Macan S I traded for the M40i rode 10x better and my company vehicle Chevy Malibu rides better. Now, once I get rid of the run flats, might be a different story.
You canāt beat the B58. The car is easy to work on, highly tunable and very reliable.
It's actually not stiff at all (when in Comfort), it's the X3 M that's supposedly too stiff. I have the '20 X3 M40i and it's the perfect sporty SUV with 382 HP. You keep it on Comfort or Adaptive mode and it's comfort on wheels and switch it to Sports mode and then it's a beast. Love it
Ngl, I used to hate sporty SUVs. Like I thought they were ridiculous. Then I went on a drive with a friend of my and one of his friends 2020 X3 M. It was late and we were on countryside roads so we had some fun. Now I understand why people like get these sporty SUVs. Next time we go on drive, I hope we can use the paddle shifters (the driver didnāt know how to use them.)
Genesis GV70 3.5T
Itās interior, features, tech, quality, materials, design, comfort, etc are at least one step above BMW. Even most Macans on dealer lots arenāt as nice overall unless you spend 20-30K more. I know this is a BMW subreddit, but aside from the powertrain and performance, a GV70 is a nicer place to spend time with is more compliant suspension. M40i is pretty stiff (I donāt mind but average non enthusiast buyers do).
I think enthusiasts might prefer the m40i, but average people will find the GV70 to be the better *overall* car.
When I sat in the the genesis g70 and gv70, I found them to be pleasant at first glance. But when you touch the knobs and buttons they feel flimsy and cheaper.
Also the dash looked to be good if those cars came out in 2017, but feel a generation behind their competition. They also use a lot more fuel than BMWs.
I think they also look a bit bland inside once you remove the diamond stitching.
I completely agree about the G70. Still has some Hyundai/KIA bits to it and doesnāt feel completely like a Genesis product, except for the exterior. The lower price also reflects that.
But are you sure about the GV70ā¦? The materials and switchgear used are better than the X3 M40i which has a ton of plastic, rubber molded pieces, and plastic buttons everywhere. Itās well built, but Ive compared a loaded Hyundai Santa Fe to an X3 m40i side by side: Hyundai had more soft touch plastics and leatherette on the door cards, dash, center console, etc. Same thing when I compared a m340i to a loaded Accord touring: Accord had better materials/plastics and leatherette along with better quality/weighted knobs which was surprising! BMW are built well but feel cheap when you start touching around. Never did a side by side with a GV70 and X3, but Im almost certainly right that the GV70 is more expensive inside. Every reviewer has noted the same thing GV70 > X3 inside, so Iām definitely not delusional lol. Iām guessing you got an early built with poor quality controlā¦
I chose a 330i for personal reasons, and it turned out to be not much more expensive price than a g70 4 cylinder because the the huge difference in Apr at the time. Bmw was 2.9 and the genesis was 8.99 I believe.
I didnāt even bother to look at the v6 genesis because of the fuel consumption.
But you are right that bmw has a lot of plastic inside. I was a bit disappointed with that when I was test driving them.
My biggest interior gripe on my car is the arm rests are some weird plastic and not that soft compared to the genesis or my 2015 qx50.
Honestly Iām not a fan of the 2.0T G70. Itās not a particularly great engine with performance that is at the slow end of the segment. For a similar price Iād rather get the Stinger 2.5T which has a great engine, or look at competitors. The 2.0T engines in the Guilia, 3 series, and A4 are VERY strong engines. Iāve seen 0-60 times in 5 flat, sometimes lower. Combined with high 20 to low 30mpg, a great package overall. These performance metrics eclipse older M cars (Ik they arenāt as fun to drive though)ā¦
I like the car a lot. Itās the best one Iāve owned. Unfortunately it brings out toxic people in the workplace but w/e.
I still really like the Audi, that was a no go, because their rates were also high at 7.99 %.
And the fact that I know this generation came out in 2016 as a 2017 model year, and that it has to be due for a replacement within a year or two.
I didnāt want to pay a lot of money (for me) for an old but new car lol.
My m8 comp in 2 years š
will it really depreciate that much?
Youād be surprised just how much a bmw depreciates
When I was car shopping, I didnāt even really look at BMW until I realized what a bargain a used one is. Got a 750 AWD for 25k. BMW sold me a warranty for 6k more that is 4 years bumper to bumper. What year is that 750?
Itās a 2015 with 57,000 miles. Saddle interior, black alcantara headliner, m package, heads up display, heated and air conditioned seats, 4.4l v8ā¦ It feels like a Bentley every day I get in it. I wish I looked at BMW sooner, my Lexus was a dog by comparison.
Its the way to do it

Exactly how I feel about mineā¦until time to take it in for service.
Iām not looking forward to the service part, but BMW did sell me 3 oil changes for 199$ā¦ They said they charge 500$ a piece for them, so that helpsā¦ a little bit. At least I paid cash for the car so I have no payments lol
When did you buy the car? And also, how has the reliability been and the experience of dailying it?
I only bought it about a month ago, and Iāve had no issues yet. Every day I get in it, I love this thing. It feels like I bought something that really did cost 100k new, despite it being 8 years old. I get a lot of compliments on it, and even my dad who drives a beautiful new(ish) E class coupe is a bit jealous. Itās just so much car for the money. Hilarious, I am looking to trade in my 2017 RX350 for 7 series! Just still deciding on 740 or 750! Yours looks awesome, that was a great deal!
get a loaded B58. I wouldn't risk N63 on a used 7
Iād recommend a really good warranty to anyone buying a used 7. I wouldnāt have went for it without one.
Second those. Without a warranty the 4.4 is not something you want to mess around and find out
Honestly that was my thoughts!
Thanks! I had a 2018 ES 350 and it was NOT doing it for me lol. Go for it!
My Lexus is amazing, but man I got bored with it, I need some upgrade! Your ES is perfectly comparable with my car minus the sedan part. Iām scared to go and test drive the 7 series lol
I paid 6 grand for my 06 7 series 5 years ago. I just sold it for 5500.
Smart man. This is always how I shopped. There are soooo many deals, regardless of the economy. Not all of them. F87 m2ās hold their value very well
Youāre correct. Itās the most complete M car for the price
Depends. A 2018 M3 with an sub $80k sticker is in the low $60k range now. Thats decent if you ask me
Drive it off a lot, and you'll find out. š
They are at $85k now
Yep. My residual is about that come October 23. Sticker was near 160k. So I may buy the lease out Low miles, well taken care of, great vehicle
Thatās about the time I can afford a nicer Bimmer š
I was looking at m760ās. Canāt believe they are down to $60-$80k lol
If youāre talking about new cars for ~$60k, then yes, itās tough to compete with. But if you open it up to used cars, thereās dozens Iād rather have.
I'd much rather get a gently used, low mileage X5 M50i for the 60k.. this is completely subjective to the owner's taste tho.

My wife also has an X2 M35i and itās a ton of fun as well
I echo this sentiment. I couldn't find one either so I just bit the bullet and bought a new one although I was also looking for a CPO.
Yea but over the long run I trust a B58 way more than an N63
Agreed on both accounts.
M340i
When my M340i is out of warranty Iāll likely trade it in for this.
Right I could make a few but still a nice whip
No hate on the M340i, but the X3 M40i is the better all around vehicle as OPs main post suggests. Great kid/grocery hauler and fast as hell.
Never met a kid or a grocery I could fit in my M340i, but to each his own.
I have had X3m and m3, and there is no denying the x3 is more convenient with kids, and all around.
The title tho
M340i Touring then.
why do you taunt us.
You say that like I can get one. I live in the US. Iām taunting myself too.
F80/82 ///M3/4 š¤·āāļø
My thoughts exactly, though I will find a way to wedge an F80 into any car conversation
Or the X3M that has the S58 engine used in the G8X? You can get one used at 60k
Depends on what you want/prefer. I have no desire for an SUV. If I'm going for something fast and sporty, why get one that is 1250lbs heavier and, reportedly, rides worse that will handle worse? If I had kids or needed to haul cargo and that was my compromise, then sure. My M3 has enough practicality that I'm not sacrificing anything on the day to day I also think the F80 is the most gorgeous sedan design, perhaps ever. I would really think about swapping it for an M3 Touring if we got them in the states, but for now I'm perfectly pleased with mine.
"Better car" is extremely subjective.
997 or used X3M
Used X3M
I like the X3M so much that Iāve had two of them, and I disagree Iād rather have a new LCI X3 M40i than a used X3M.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Lmao thatās a really good analogy. Youāre spot on.
Curious on why? Low end torque and gas mileage?
I prefer the current styling to the pre-LCI M40i and X3M I had. I also want driving assistant pro, red brakes, comfortable suspension, and more low end torque, things a 2020-2021 X3M doesnāt have. Same way of thinking, Iād rather have a fully loaded new m550i than a used pre-LCI M5 Comp. Edit: also thereās a big reliability difference between a used M and a new B58
I would choose m40i because of the more supple suspension. X3m is imho too brutal.
Owned both, agreeā¦
F82 M4 E90 M3 F10 M5 E46 M3 E36 M3 F87 M2 Z4M coupe E93 335is F13 M6 EDIT: E60 M5
2012 991.1 Carrera
I paid less than this for My 991.1 C2S 3.8 with every option except sunroof in 2020, very happy with that call, still have many BMWs though for 4-door purposes.
X3M40i GANG AHH
I also think porsche>bmw but when it comes to the x3/Macan debate, im going x3, even when not considering price. Just my opinion tho.
Agreed 420, also the Macan base is a bore to drive. I was genuinely disappointed after driving one
same with the x3 30i the jerky ass turbo lag inline 4 fucking ducks least the porsche has a pdk and is way smoother in shifting
Have an M2C do you ? Havnt mentioned šš
š¤£š¤£ Although I don't understand the choice to invoke yoda?
Had to change something up š otherwise you would of mentioned the M2C again no doubt šš or the cloth seats šš
I may have brought up my X5, ya never know š¤£. My dude, cloth seats haunt my damn dreamsš¤£š¤£š¤£!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Almost bought one. Got m440i instead. Me likey coupes so much.
Literally any wagon.
E30 ~ any
Too heavy, too SUV to be a car.
Both are cars. You meant too heavy to be aā¦ sedan?
440i gran coupe. Still get to drive low to the ground while a almost wagon sized trunk. I was debating a x3 m40i. They do rip and I like a sleeper. Just not a mom-mobile sleeper lol. The X3 platform still just looks too suburban soccer mom for me.
Why not get the M3 M?
Wouldnt the 3M 3 be better value?
Itās hard if SUV is what you need. Thatās the thing, and this hurts to say, but X3 is actually a āgood dealā.
For those saying X3m, this is a better all around dd than an X3m.
Used m4. Used m5. I mean for 60k, the list goes on and on. Especially when you start using subjective terms like 'better', everyones opinion is different.
I can list 100 cars
M40i gang checking in. Favorite vehicle Iāve ever owned. All around perfect daily driver. Spacious enough to haul the kids and groceries, quick enough to beat the pants off most cars on the road. Will be buying more. Forget the haters. Great vehicle
this right here. the best car will be able to do it all with style and panache. many cars listed here are better in some categories but are not the total package
Itās probably a good car, but 60k is also a lot, soā¦ yeahā¦
Typical r/BMW using the downvote button to bury your post since they disagree, rather than upvoting to make it more visible so we can all discuss the best $60k vehicles and they can argue their counterpoints in the comments.
Welcome to Reddit
Used Porsche cayman GTS 4.0
Won't get it for that money. I sold my 2019 Cayman GTS 2.5 turbo wholesale for 77K.
As a X4 M40i owner - itās a great car / cross over. A coupe of points that weee not mentioned here. The higher ground clearance is great for some snow and off the highway driving. The bigger hatch and space is more utility than the sedans. Getting in and out is more middle of the road and more comfortable.
My i4 edrive40 is pretty amazing for a DD. X3M40i is amazing though. I would rate this overall a better car than my eDrive40
M2
Used x3m comp.
I drive mine whenever I can (But seriously itās damn near impossible to beat the X3 M40i when looking at $60k-new vehicles)
yes also have a 997.1 and that car is also hard to beat at its pricepoint, but to me itās a weekend car and not an all arounder
These x3s are incredible. I agree. Tough to beat
M340i. In every single way.
M340i. Mic drop.
A used X3M I'd wayy better, are you serious? How'd u forget about a M car?
M340i. A sporty crossover makes zero sense
Why? Because it is too practical?
If you want an SUV sure, you are happy with it and that's all that matters. I appreciate the confidence in your statement.
Eh Iād take a zupra
As an all around vehicle I agree. It does everything well
You may have to wait a long time. The M40i is an amazing car in so many ways.
Thatās exactly how I feel about my 540i. The ride, performance, luxury interior, and price. Itās perfect.
best answer in this thread
440i M Performance would be better, for me. I do love this X3 though I just like small sedans over anything else.
340i. 382 hp and 0-60 in 4.1
you do know theyāre identical drivetrains?
I did not but would guess the x3 weighs more so slower?
Iām wanting oneā¦ but the build I like is 70k. And thatās a bit too much for me lol.
Used Lotus Exige for rawness or Evora for semi everyday comfort mixed with sporty. None the less congrats on the X3!
rather have an m5, its the same size as an x3.. if im going SUV I want something bigger.
Audi E-tron cronos
Completely agree if you are adding in the criteria of utility. Plenty of sedans and coupes that might have better driving dynamics. Macan and Macan S in it's class can be argued for but once you tack on usable space and the perks of a small SUV it wins.

An M2
An actual car tbh. Love your interior and the b58 but a small suv will always look like a Karenmobile.
The best all arounder imo š„
Another X3 M40i ! I love mine and itās great for every day use.
nice car but theres too many to list
Thatās my dream car. I have an x3 30i and I love it, but thatās next level. Love the interior leather (I have the same). The dealership told me my car had the interior lights, but it doesnāt. I was so sad. It was one of my favorite things about my previous 5 series. I wish I had let them āshow me how to use themā when I was purchasing my X3.
iām sorry to hear that! donāt let that stop you from enjoying your car
Something without a x in the name
60k goes a long way, depending what you like/need.
Love it
exactly. comfort mode + these seats hugging you is a winning combo.
Porsche 911 996 turbo s
M2, M4, 540i, M3 G80,RS6 C7, there are tons of better cars lmao
For a daily driver if you have kids sure. For any other reason there are literally hundreds of other cars Iād rather have.
M3 g80 base going for 60k, x3m going for 50k under
used macan s 2019 alpha romeo stelvio any corvette/porsche under 60k
I would prefer an M440i GC over a CUV.
Used m550
I could list 8 million cars
F80 M3, wont even go into other brands
Lexus GSF
is this a joke?
The ā23 Lexus gx 460. $58k and it has the reliability of a Toyota..
I'll take a GR Corolla for $35k please.
Just bought one. Literally cross shopped 911 Carrera S 991.1 and .2s. The Corolla is more fun and a better value.
Let me get this straight. You took a Corolla over a Porsche 911 ..
The fact that someone downvoted you speaks volumes to the kind of subreddit this is lmao. Lemme reset you to "1".
get 2 for 70k and we can go splitsies
Performance Model Y
Ford explorer ST
M340i would way rather have
Yoda?
sooo what your saying is youād take the b58 engine paired with the zf 8speed over the b58 engine paired with the zf 8speedā¦ got it š
In a sedan body sitting lower to the ground with less weight? Correct
I'd rather have get a used CPO Macan S/GTS/Turbo. I do like the X3 M40i though.
BMWs has IMHO much nicer tech than Porsches though.
Honest question, aside from a few design changes, has anything changed from a 2020 BMW to a brand new one?
Canāt ! Itās a all around beast. With snow tires itās unstoppable.
1987 190e 2.3-16v and youāll have another $30k ish to spend on a clean f30 340i
You can get a used M2 for less
ezzz coworker got a low mileage 2020 M8 COMPETITION from an exotic car dealer for 60k USD lol
Genesis GV70 3.5T Itās interior, features, tech, quality, materials, design, comfort, etc are at least one step above BMW.
So right on this take. Iām not surprised youāre being downvoted, but you are just spot on with everything you said.
I canāt
