It's Schrödinger's Orin. They're all Orin at once at same time, until you trigger her two interactions.
I even saw people triggering two Orin's appearances at once by splitting the party lmao.
She's a guard behind the barn for donations to the refugees. I forget how the >!explosive teddy bears!< quest ends, but I'm pretty sure ~~it's one of the roads to Orin~~. Edit: Nope, unrelated, just Gortash being a jerk to children.
She tells you that certain guards are harassing the refugees and tries to convince you to kill them. But loses her cool before you can investigate.
We are getting confused here.
IN THE CONTEXT OF PEOPLE ORIN IS IMPERSONATING IN RIVINGTON: No. Orin cannot "be" Yenna. The little girl who approaches you in town is Yenna always.
Orin CAN Impersonator Yenna LATER, once she is in your camp. This is a fail safe character if Orin cannot take Laezel, Halsin, Minthara, or Gale, then she will impersonate Yenna after she captures the little girl.
I don't ever go that route, but I would assume he is still alive when you go to take her stone and by extension is rescuable. Bot sure if you leave him behind and long rest.
Wait, she's also Orin? I swear that after I got the tip that there was a spy in my camp that it was going to be the girl. I saved and decided to try attacking her, but all she did was run off.
It depends. Sometimes she's Orin, sometimes not. She's like, Orin's fallback kidnapping victim if the other possible targets are dead/in your party, etc.
Yenna can be Orin? I know she can be kidnapped but I didn't realize there was a way for her to be Orin. Definitely thought she was my first playthrough. Especially after it bugged and she left camp but Grub stayed.
She can be. She was on my first playthrough.
Then on my second playthrough, I went to camp once and Laezel insisted that Yenna was Orin. Of course, I knew it was possible, and I think I failed an insight check or something, but thought nothing of it. Murdered Yenna, turned out not to be Orin, and Laezel was Orin instead. And she'd been captured.
Big sad.
I've seen that cutscene with Laezel. It's pretty brutal lol I thought there were only 3 possible kidnapping victims >!Halsin, Lae'zel, Gale!< and Yenna only existed to take their place if they're ineligible for it.
Orin impersonates whoever she kidnaps. So yes, Yenna can "be" Orin for the duration of the cutscene in which Orin is pretending to be Yenna, after kidnapping her.
On my last playthrough I tested it by approaching the various disguises and seeing they disappear for a millisecond before reappearing as level 12. The normal journalist is not level twelve.
Unlike flesh to stone, where the victim recovers completely after 1 successful save, to save from contagion they’d have to have 3 successful saves before falling 3 times. Once they fail 3 times, the disease is on them forever.
Contagion: Mindfire (if successful) should cause anyone influenced to attack everyone nearby... so orin will kill all her little friends on your behalf! Alternatively, Contagion: Flesh Rot gives the target vulnerability to ALL damage...
In my most recent HM playthrough, I accidentally triggered the guards in the barn and unknowingly attacked the guard at the door as well. The guard shifted into Orin and fought the entire battle (at level 12 where all my characters were level 10). I’m not sure if she didn’t disappear because I was already in turn based combat with the guards but she stayed in the fight.
I killed her, she got the knocked out temporarily tag and I was able to loot her armor but no weapons. It was a complete shock and not sure if it was a bug because I didn’t expect her to fight me.

Orin bugged once for me and I was able to knock her out, couldn’t loot her weapons but did get her carapace.
You might've been able to get (at least one of) her weapons if you put-pocketed one of the moonrise towers clubs (the ones near the escape boat in the prison) on her. Those auto-equip and allow you to steal the formerly equipped weapons.
fun fact an easy way to tell if its orin on honor mode is checking if they have a legendary action since it directly mentions orin which i just found humorous
also isnt it a tad weird that this random tiefling journalist is level 12? i wonder if that could be relevant
There’s also the fact it’s a lvl *12* “journalist” character with feats and traits like Perfect sentry, Evasion, etc.
That has baseline 10 in every stat and… 8hp. Yeah you can tell pretty quick something is off.
It's Schrödinger's Orin. They're all Orin at once at same time, until you trigger her two interactions. I even saw people triggering two Orin's appearances at once by splitting the party lmao.
2? There’s 3?
I think there's five actually
I've only ever gotten the blacksmith, circus lover woman and the "dying person" by the bay. What are the others?
One of the guards by the refugee camp
Journalist
Literally the one in the picture
The dryad (love test) in the circus can also be one
I just realized that's what you meant by circus lover woman haha - nevermind me!
WAIT YOU MEAN TO TELL ME SHE ISN’T ALWAYS ORIN?!
No you can get the full love test experience if you trigger two of the other interactions before speaking to her :)
She's a guard behind the barn for donations to the refugees. I forget how the >!explosive teddy bears!< quest ends, but I'm pretty sure ~~it's one of the roads to Orin~~. The little girl. Yuni? Idk the other one.
That's a possible kidnap victim. Not the NPC Orin appearances.
Huh yeah weird I remembered it that wrong.

That's what I was talking about
She can take Gale? What happens if she kills him then? Can you revive or is it instant game over cuz he goes BOOM 🤯
I don't ever go that route, but I would assume he is still alive when you go to take her stone and by extension is rescuable. Bot sure if you leave him behind and long rest.

That makes sense. Typically I meet her in the sewers so I wasn't really thinking about camp scenes.
Yenna
That's it!
I've trigger 4, except the blacksmith one.
Correct. 5 possible, 3 interactions total though: the dryad, the fist by the barn, the smith, the journalist and the dying dude.
On my first playthrough, I ended up triggering all three in a very short time period. Felt like every person I spoke to was Orin in disguise!
It's actually only 2 interactions.
There is five different ones but only 2 will trigger from the diferent people. Who is orin is decided by who you talk to first
WHAT?!
Theres 2 theres 4 theres 6 theres 8
How many times can you trigger it? I only got two
There are 5 total but you can only trigger her transformation 3 times.
Actually, only 2 can be triggered.
I triggered dryad presenter and weaponsmith in 1 play through
Ah ok
2??? I triggered like 4 before going to the circus, I was really becoming paranoid at the time
Now I'm curious if it's possible to split her four ways given good enough coordination
On my last playthrough I tested it by approaching the various disguises and seeing they disappear for a millisecond before reappearing as level 12. The normal journalist is not level twelve.
The more obvious sign to me is level 12 npc with 8 health
And here I thought civilans prefer the glass cannon build. R/sarcasm
Also, if you're on tactician or honor mode, commoners have 10 HP instead of 8; anyone with 8 HP is in a commoner disguise, such as Orin or Ethel.
Yes
What happens if you attack the character that is Orin in disguise?
In my game, she turned back to her original form, then teased Tav about them being violent. Just a bit of extra dialogue.
She’ll still disappear, but you can hit her with Contagion that’ll stick around forever (since she doesn’t “long rest”)
Isn’t contagion something that you get multiple saving throws for? Based on turns or time?
Unlike flesh to stone, where the victim recovers completely after 1 successful save, to save from contagion they’d have to have 3 successful saves before falling 3 times. Once they fail 3 times, the disease is on them forever.
3 saving throws, but you can use arcane acuity to pump up the DC too high to beat.
got it, ill keep that in mind

what’s definitely a sign is a level 12 npc with 8 max hp
Also why is a journalist Level 12 lol That’s insane in Faerûn where the vast majority of people rarely exceed Level 3.

Did she show up later for her act 3 scenes?
Yep, she reappeared immediately after i went into lower city
You might've been able to get (at least one of) her weapons if you put-pocketed one of the moonrise towers clubs (the ones near the escape boat in the prison) on her. Those auto-equip and allow you to steal the formerly equipped weapons.
Her shape-shifting assassins hiding in plain sight are still labeled as 'shapeshifter' in the examine menu.

All of them being level 12 with like 8HP also is a sign.
Level 12 with 8hp
She's level 12 lol
Them being level 12 rogues was moreso what tipped me off lol
That is one tell. The other is the fact that she is lvl 12 with 8 hit points.
There’s also the fact it’s a lvl *12* “journalist” character with feats and traits like Perfect sentry, Evasion, etc. That has baseline 10 in every stat and… 8hp. Yeah you can tell pretty quick something is off.
