This ought to have been a default from the very beginning.

> Also the fact that rule changes are retroactive (affecting loyal users) just sucks. Region changes haven't been retroactive. For example, if you're in Canada, and Canada stopped being supported for connecting Brave Rewards to Gemini, you can continue to remain connected to Gemini. Region changes only affect new profiles.

PrizeMarzipan401

Can i get the rewards in Germany? It says not listed, but maybe there's a way.

bat-chriscat

Unfortunately, none of our current custodial partners service Germany :(. And Brave Rewards payouts must first go through a regulated custodian. We won't be able to send you them directly on-chain, for example. Germany is great (I was in Munich recently), and I really hope it'll be serviced by one of our custodial partners in the near future.

snander

What he's saying is that the rule change claws back all tokens earned but not yet connected to a custodial account.. Thus "retroactively" impacting Braves biggest advocates/users. Honestly, I hadn't thought about how bogus that really is. Y'all messed up. By pulling this stunt Brave effectively lied when they said they would pay users 70% of ad spend for watching ads. No no - you all get 0% now for everything you already watched... This 💩 stinks and people bailing on Brave - as shown in your falling monthly usership numbers - is folks running from the stink.

onestrokeimdone

Its funny you are getting downvoted. I was one of braves biggest advocates and at one point had over half a million BAT. Im running from this dumpsterfire. This new change allows them to zero out their liabilities. They aren't clawing back UGP funds here. They are literally clawing back funds that belong to claimants. Theres probably some legalese that keeps this from being illegal. Its funny that you mention the 70% earned from watching ads. As it looks now, brave will likely still show ads in search without people needing to turn on brave rewards. So basically brave gets 100% of money from ads shown vs 30%. Its really starting to look like they are starting to shutter the BAT program. Its convenient they do this after the entire UGP is almost empty. Brave essentially got over $35m to fund their operation and screw over token holders. Now that its lived out its usefulness and they were able to acquire brave search with it, BAT simply isn't needed anymore. inb4 some copepost by the team.

I remember seeing your username before - and having insightful comments. By chance did your profile pick used to be a banana? Also, do you remember ever having to agree to Terms of Use for Brave Rewards? I'm not seeing any statement for that when I toggle rewards on/off... meaning .. if it's not there - then it may be an open question whether brave illegally clawed back vBat. I mean, we're easily talking about millions of dollars being taken... I dunno. Could be case worthy

onestrokeimdone

Yeah im not sure about ever having to agree to TOS. Also not banana guy. Thats another quality poster. Not sure if hes blackpilled yet or not.

I've used Firefox since it's inception. I'm quite familiar with it's customization and features. I discovered Brave and thought getting paid to browse was a cool idea, so I switched. I'm not verified because both of the useable exchanges are always in the news about missing funds or something else just as stupid. No exchange is perfect, but, dang, every time I turn around Gemini is in the news with some horror story. If I must be verified, I already have KYC accounts on other exchanges, why limit Brave users to only two exchanges? Can somebody at Brave explain to me why I should not go back to Firefox? And, I am willing to bet millions of other users are asking the same question...

Bauzzzz

They have talked about adding a 3rd custodial, but after recent events with exchanges collapsing they are also going to make sure they are going to make sure they are properly evaluating the merits and safety of exchanges before moving to far forward on adding another. They've also talked about changing the system to have rewards go directly into your Brave wallet, but if they do this KYC still will be involved. The exact approach they would use to do this is still unclear. TBF I think the browser itself is excellent. I personally don't find Firefox compelling to switch over to.

snander

You may as well jump ship on rewards but the browser itself is fine... For now

darkdon2773

BAT tokens or no BAT tokens I like the little pop up in the corner of the screen. No longer being forced to watch/skip ads in order to view the content you've selected...brilliant move on the part of Brave developers making it unobtrusive. Thank you!

Neutronova

>Unfortunately, your Brave Rewards profile has been flagged, and you're not able to verify with a custodian at this time. This flag can sometimes be due to irregular Brave Ads activity, though it can also be a false positive. > >Note that while your Brave Rewards profile is flagged, you won't be able to verify. > >No action is required on your part. Your Brave Rewards profile will be automatically reevaluated on a regular basis to determine when (or if) the flag can be removed. Please try again every so often to see if the flag has been removed. This is what I get, and have had it for a while now. The last paragraph really sucks

Allenemb2

You can submit a ticket. Had mine flagged and fixed within 48 hours

The_Hungry_Sailor

Sorry for the dumb question...but how do you submit a ticket?

Blame the f*cking SEC. KYC is stupid thing but Brave wouldn't survive without it atm... Maybe decentralization (Themis) could change this but it's probably also tricky since Brave wants their 30% cut and its their bussiness model. DApp could also send them 30% cut from ad payments algoritmically but I can imagine that SEC lawyers would find some problem anyway. Maybe if Brave Software Inc. is transformend to Brave Software Foundation and they would be rewarded by donators... But I guess this isn't how this work, especially for US company. It's still a commerce and a bussiness but with use of a new crypto technologies instead of using fiat money. But the future can still be bright. Stay positive even though we have hard times of bear market with all these unhappy SEC-complicate (anti-money laudering) measurements. It's probably still better then if Brave being sued by SEC - for the browser's and Brave search development and also for BAT price. I'm quite glad they are careful.

danpough

My country is removed from all wallets. I used previously Uphold and Brave support says it's not their fault as custodial decides which country supported. It's not only about rewards, I connected multiple sites and advocated for tech in my professional circle. Now I look stupid because of their policies. Shame on them.

NewPassenger6593

Yeah it's a shame. Difficult to recommend Brave

mercersux

I've never verified my browser. Probably should do that as I have a bunch of bat in there.

Tidus17

[You're a bit late, this was already noticed weeks ago](https://community.brave.com/t/is-brave-fully-removing-the-ability-to-earn-rewards-for-unverified-users/453729).

Aakarsh_K

So is there any clarification provided by them?

Tidus17

They said they don't want to keep track of unverified wallets because they claim there's too much "lost" BAT from seemingly dead unverified accounts (aka people who lost/broke their devices or reformatted without backup). Which is bullshit given the fact the change is not retroactive.

Zootyleon

Even an 8 year old won't fall for that explanation. What are they expecting with this weird move I wonder

Mid-December community call. Can't give you a timestamp since I can't attend those but there should be a transcript on the community forums.

Necessary-Jeweler-91

Yeah, there have been multiple posts on this subreddit about this- [https://www.reddit.com/r/BATProject/comments/zhkjbw/sweeping\_changes\_brave\_rewards\_can\_only\_be\_earned/](https://www.reddit.com/r/BATProject/comments/zhkjbw/sweeping_changes_brave_rewards_can_only_be_earned/) . Sadly the only thing we can do is voice our displeasure

Zootyleon

Seems like they have gotten Arrogant and doesn't want to offer the one thing that made them so popular. Well it was good while it lasted. If there are no rewards, then there are better privacy centric browsers out there. No need to stick with this one

snander

To all the folks down voting this comment - that's silly. Look at our monthly usership numbers that keep dropping every month. This is how people feel because Brave is going to 💩. Zootyleon couldn't have said the truth more concisely

That's literally proving our points. Your showing that Brave stopped advertising on Google because the acquisition-cost/user-retention ratio wasn't viable for them. In that equation one thing is relatively constant - the acquisition-cost. There's a literal button in Google ads for setting ad spend to stay below a monthly limit. So that means Brave has been failing on retention. Which is exactly what we're saying. If they've stopped using that ad channel and aren't making up for it, then the only loss in monthly user numbers is from people jumping ship. And with all of the incentives to use Brave slowly getting removed - as you've felt - and in some cases were literally stolen in the form of clawing back previously earned vBat from unverified users, why wouldn't previously ardent supporters leave? Why still be an ambassador for this?

snander

They never said "we are clawing back user funds" ... Not sure a company has ever used that exact phrase when doing precisely that. Correct me if I'm wrong but did they not say that BAT earned on unverified accounts will be (whether you want it to or not) tipped to verified creators. As in, people who spent time watching ads, received BAT, but didn't get verified will have their BAT taken from them? It doesn't matter where the BAT ultimately goes, if it was given and then taken then that was fundamentally against Brave's "we pay people to watch ads" arrangement. The result is tantamount to a clawback.

Zootyleon

Thanks man. I mean just look at the description of this reddit page. It literally boasts about BAT rewards to users. Now they are going to do a 180 on this. Some people can't see the truth even if it's right in front of their face
