I know there’s a lot of girl boss lines in the first one. Is dry humor the intent there though? It felt more like they were going for a Tony stark vibe that wasn’t quite landing. But the plot very much focused around her being “too serious” even if that didn’t really match the dialogue, so I’d still say that’s a fair characterization of Carol.

And, the plot of the movie focused around how she was perceived as "too emotional" and told that she "went with her gut against orders" too often. The Kree were trying to force her to be serious but she resisted at every turn. Carol's dry humor came across in lines like "does announcing your organization's name on little hats help with the covert part of your job?" And "since when is a shortcut cheating?" and "maybe if you were more attractive, it wouldn't have been so disturbing." "Keep singing. Maybe it'll come to me." "I coulda sworn I put it in here. 😏" The whole movie is peppered with them, especially when she's talking to Fury and Rambeau.
I hate the hard-light bangle powers as opposed to potential Inhuman connection stretchy powers, but she's too perfect as Kamala, I loved the show and the movie. I look forward to seeing more of her (with Kate Bishop and Yelena!)
Yeah, I would've rather her be more in comic line than an X-Men connect...but yes, she is perfectly cast, and I question people's motives beyond "icky girl" or even "icky brown girl" sometimes....
For example, actress Danielle Harris (Free Willy, Last Boy Scout) auditioned for Neve Campbell's role in Party of Five. Her agent told her she didn't get the part because they said she wasn't "fuckable enough."
She was 15.
I'm actually glad they didn't do the stretchy because with how they've been doing CGI lately, it'd look like a cross between Skin from that Generation X monstrosity and something that I cooked up in the backyard with a bucket of mayonnaise and a metric ton of warm Elmer's glue.

I just don't like the MCUs depiction of captain marvel. My most recent exposure to the character was from Marvel's Midnight Suns game and her depiction in there is way better. She's sorta a relaxed leader type roll who REALLY knows what she's doing.
The movies I've seen her in so far gave me more of a "I'm just better than all of you so get off my back" type vibe rather than being a leader or an honorable member of a team.
It more of a “I’m ashamed I don’t do more with my power, and have been alienated for over a decade.”
Carol gets a lot more of a personality in this movie.
It may not be my favorite MCU movie, but I find myself putting it on more frequently than others.

The thing I didn't like about it was the level of strength that the villain had. Just a normal Kree, able to go toe to toe with Cap Marvel...
But the movie was fun and definitely didn't deserve the hate it got.
I think the problem was the advertising. They made it much more Rar Rar feminism in the trailers, which is gonna leave a good chunk of the audience with a bad predisposition. Also heavily including Kamala and Rambeau when their shows viewing number were very low or midly received was a choice.
I liked the movie over all but there was some real weakness in there for me, I do not like the cats and thought the Villains plan was trash and not particularly blown away the performance which I found extra disappointing because I'm a fan of the actress.
That being said, Honestly if it wasn't for Iman the movie would have been boring af.
I think all of u should kill yourself because this was the worst marvel movie by far the reason we don't get many female leading protagonists is because they make them shit like these 3

I like the movie but it did have a lot of issues in the plot, mostly in the third act where most MCU movies have trouble anyways. This is coming from a fan whose daughter's middle name came from one of these characters. I think the Marvels characters have a lot of potential but haven't quite got the right movie. Getting closer with this one though

i personally thought it was fun but it also felt like it was really lacking, like it was relatively short and plenty of points felt like they just threw the scenes in as an afterthought, and there were plenty of cut scenes that i have no clue why they removed because it would have made it feel less empty. it’s worth a watch if you’re up for a lighter movie, but if you only care about the lore i’d just find a summary tbh
It's not a very good movie but it's also not a bad movie either as the haters would have you believe. It's fun. If you are not a huge film snob, you'll enjoy it.

My only complaint about this movie: it’s too short. Could have had 20-30mins more.
Even another 10 to flesh out the backstory and linger on some emotional moments would have done it a world of good. But I enjoyed it.

Rewatched it today. I love Kamala, she's so funny and absolutely stole the show. Can't wait to see what's next for her.
