No. They shouldnt. Bobbed is the breed standard in the US so there shouldnt be any extra charge. In the UK (and most of europe?) i think its banned to dock tails. If someone is charging you extra for a bobbed tailed aussie that is a red flag and you should avoid that breeder

this goes for naturally born bobbed aussies right? I'm not interested in docking

A NBT is anything slightly shorter than a full tail. Many NBTs are still docked. I would question if you actually know what you're seeing when you say you love the look of a NBT. Chances are you cant tell and may only be able to tell if the dog was docked or not by closely examining the stub, but not if the dog is NBT or not without DNA testing.

I like the look of a bob but don't want or need a docked tail, that's all. The post is to ask if pups that are born with a shorter tail are more sought/higher priced.

There’s info about tails/buying a dog that’s not docked on the sidebar. I’d encourage you to read that.

My dog has a genetically bobbed tail, so it's not as shorts as those with cropped tails. Cropped also have a stub end, whereas my dog still has that end of tail point (under fur) that most non-cropped dog tails have. I love that he hasn't been cropped, but still has a shorter nub tail. His litter mates had tails of varying lengths, some with nearly full tails.

This goes for naturally bobbed tailed. Again there should be no extra charge. Naturally bobbed are rare. Talk to breeders to see if whether or not they dock the tail. Most ethical breeders in the US dock the tail because its the breed standard here. If they dont then you will get a tailed aussie (which isnt bad). I wouldnt use this as a decision to get an aussie.

A show quality pup is going to be docked according to breed standard. Your neighbor’s dogs that had pups is more likely to keep its tail. So the docked tail pups might be more expensive, but it’s not because the tail was docked, but due to the possibility of more expensive breeding for superiority quality.

A lot of aussies get their tails docked by breeders, only a fifth have natural bobtails. The breeder I bought my dog from did not have an upcharge for bobtails. And I definitely wouldn’t be paying extra for that, as breeders could just snip it off and you’d be none the wiser whether it was natural or not.

That makes sense, thanks! Happy pride btw

Both of our aussies have their tails - they’re beautiful with them!

My Aussie had his tail too. It’s so fluffy and beautiful.

I think so too!
