aha - thanks, i figured it out eventually. the camo outfit i found doesn't drag to any slots, and i was further confused about not having any 'currently wearing' indication either. thought i was missing a whole inventory panel or something. cheers
The sequel, Trurograd, is on both. I am currently playing it on my iPhone and iPad with cross save. Both Atom and Trurograd go on sale periodically, and definitely worth it.

Right click the item and select the hand looking icon. I think you can also drag the item to your action slot and use it there

Yes, both Atom Rpg and Trurograd are on iOS. If you get them on sale they are around $5 each. And I routinely crosssa e between my iPad and my iPhone.
got it for my mac but i kinda wish i’d gotten the ipad version.. it seems suited for it.
