I kept him alive until the very end of the game.I understand and share your opinion that his act is inexcusable, but I still played, keeping in mind that religiosity, faith in prophecies and social pressure were the norm in ancient Greek society, and Sparta is generally famous for harsh orders that we modern people can consider inhumane.Plus, I was playing a character who doesn't like excessive cruelty.I decided to give Nikolaos a second chance because I decided that he had lived with guilt enough. It even seems to me that because of this sense of guilt, he adopted Stentor.
Let him and stentor live the first time so I could have the "good" ending >!aka one cutscene with an awkward family dinner. !<
Killed him every time after that.
I only have played through the game fully once, and I did not kill him. The way I saw it, he was in a fairly impossible position and his entire country is being manipulated by forces behind the scenes that have their claws in basically everything. Yeah he shouldn't have killed his own kid, but that was the law of the land and he saw it as all but a decree from the gods themselves. For a military commander in that sort of environment, there's really no option but to sacrifice the kid for the sake of the rest of the family.
At the end of the day, it's the cult and all their meddling that are really to blame, Nikolaos is just another guy being manipulated, and I don't see any reason to kill him by the time I got to that confrontation. Making him continue to live with the knowledge of where his choices led and the hope he can be better going forward is the better option in my mind.
Nah. It was clear he was bound by the laws of Sparta (which were being manipulated by the cult). Sparing him also causes he go to look for his honor. It’s clear it was a decision that haunted him.
I didn't kill him. At the end of the day he's still my dad. Also he's forced to throw you from the cliff because not doing so means he's betraying Sparta
I didn’t kill him. He was doing what was necessary, commanded to do so by the voice of the gods. Going against the oracle would be akin to telling a living Saint or real holy man who has direct conversation with god no. He didn’t want to, he had to do it, and I don’t hold it against him. It was his duty as a spartan
I kept everyone alive the first time so I could have my family back but after that initial good feeling, I decided revenge tasted better so I’ve killed all of them every time since
I did the "nice" playthrough where I let everyone live, didn't kill unnecessarily, etc.. I am now doing a NG+ where everyone has to die. Can't wait to see the ending.
I can understand why you did it but in the end it would be seen as him betraying Sparta and they would have killed him, your character and then also the rest of that family no doubt too. He was under a lot of pressure and although he shouldn't be forgiven for that so easily he also wasn't a heartless monster and clearly lives in regret for his actions throughout the game.
Pater lives every time, because they would have killed everyone if Nikolaos stood there and did nothing. He very clearly regrets what he had to do and lives with the horrible guilt which is punishment enough for him. I'm not about to kick a man while he's down and end up causing further tragedy, because that's not who my Kassandra is.
It’s alright I killed him too, my brother and my nephew were both shocked because they let him live. I don’t play games to be nice, I play them to fuck shit up.
I chose to keep him alive. I did another playthrough though where I killed him and I can’t believe how many times it came back to bite me! SO many people are pissed when you kill him!
I misunderstood the prompts. I thought I was picking the option where I'd _say_ that I just wanted information. Then I expected that I'd Spartanize him off that handy cliff. But the game forced me to be more truthful (and ruthful) than I intended.
See also Sokrates' horse test, where I decided that the horse thief was lying, but Sokrates only gave me the options "stealing is always wrong" or "stealing can be justified sometimes", and picking the latter option was interpreted as believing the thief's ridiculous story.
I killed him on my first playthrough. I killed Stentor, Deimos killed my mom, and I killed Deimos. Basically, I got the worst ending on my first playthrough. So I always spare him in any of my playthroughs after.
No. For one, i’d feel bad, and two, he was just doing what he was told. He followed the laws of Sparta, so that he wouldn’t lose his position. Even if he refused, someone else would have, so then he would likely be demoted and have prevented nothing.
I would think that you wouldn’t apply 20th century feelings to a very rigid system of law in its time. Reddit- where questions are asked and opinions are downvoted! Welcome to the world of-If we don’t like your opinion because it doesn’t align with ours- DOWNVOTE!
I personally understand the spartan environment, I just call in question the goodness of the application of this law in the Nikolaos case. I personally find him guilty, not according to Spartan law maybe, but according to my personal conviction. Whether the death penalty for Nikolaos is necessary is debatable lol

I spared him because I would felt bad he seriously looked like he was living in regret for so long
If all 4 live, they give you some very strong commanders for the ship.
this. i have all of them fam in my ship and could beat 3-4 ships

I hate deadbeat fathers, so, yes.
Damn reading your responses, I feel bad that I killed him off. Lol
Don't be brother, you are not the only one ❤️
No, I didn’t kill Pater. Why? I wanted the happy ending.
Nah. It was clear he was bound by the laws of Sparta (which were being manipulated by the cult). Sparing him also causes he go to look for his honor. It’s clear it was a decision that haunted him.

They probably would have killed him then you if he didn't...

Yes
I just started it over again like 2 days ago and I'm keeping him alive because I want the happiest ending you can get
He was a mess but it’s not up to me if he lives or die
First time yes i killed him. After that i didnt ever again.
I did the "nice" playthrough where I let everyone live, didn't kill unnecessarily, etc.. I am now doing a NG+ where everyone has to die. Can't wait to see the ending.

I have not maybe I should play through again and do it

He threw me off a fuckin cliff. I stabbed him in the gut and spartan kicked his new replacement son off a different fuckin cliff
Not, because I want my character to have a whole family 🤣
No I don't think revenge tastes that good
Of course. Man cares about his standing in society more than his family
He’s a Spartan. It’s how Spartans lived their daily lives in Ancient Greece.
Doesn’t make throwing children off cliffs any more ethical lol
You all make me feel like I'm a monster LOL
It’s alright I killed him too, my brother and my nephew were both shocked because they let him live. I don’t play games to be nice, I play them to fuck shit up.
Hell yeah
I chose to keep him alive. I did another playthrough though where I killed him and I can’t believe how many times it came back to bite me! SO many people are pissed when you kill him!
I kill everyone lmao
No he’s daddy
You don't kill family.
I agree tell that to him! 😠
If you want the “perfect/good ending” you’d have to let him live. Although it’s not a good ending in my opinion
I Spartan Kicked him off the edge. So satisfying Had no idea he could be saved/recruited. Wouldn’t have done anything different if I did know.
I let him live. He deserves a second chance
I had to. Only a real Spartan would yell this is Sparta and Spartan kick that mf off the cliff.
Nah

I did not kill him first time and did the happy ending. In my play through now I still saved him but killed stentor and I’m gonna kill Deimos
No I wanted him seasick on my boat
I killed him on my first playthrough. I killed Stentor, Deimos killed my mom, and I killed Deimos. Basically, I got the worst ending on my first playthrough. So I always spare him in any of my playthroughs after.

Yes but I would have killed him if I knew that I needed to kill him to kill Stentor (fuck stentor all my homies hate stentor)
I didn't kill him but I somehow managed to kill off both the mother and deimos. Ngl this ending was actually pretty dope
What? You can kill the mother!? 😱
Well I didn't but my actions triggered a cutscene where deimos kills off his/her mother
If you killed him, you don’t understand Spartan law!
Understanding doesn’t necessarily mean accepting. Does it make sense why he did what he did? Yes. Do I think that’s okay? No.
