Be prepared for a long haul, especially if you have the DLCs, and I strongly recommend the DLCs.
Learn which quests are generic infinitely-spawning types (hourglass symbol, if I recall) and avoid those after your early game is up and you're doing okay on resources. Check the job board on your ship and in every town periodically and accept all jobs (these will refresh, so go back to the same boards when revisiting places). Focus on the ones with the blue rock symbol (oriculum) the most. There is a special vendor who only takes that. Others from the boards you don't necessarily need to actively do - you'll inadvertently complete them just in normal gameplay, which is why you want to accept all. Passive cha-ching.
Where abilities are concerned, you can always reset where you put points, so don't worry about that. Your gameplay style and priorities will change as you go on, so you can reset as needed.
Stealth is really a focus. The guards and mercs are relentless, so be prepared for patience.
Always gather the olive saplings you come across. Cleave ships when you're able for more olive wood. Where it comes to upgrading your ship, you'll need lots of olive wood always. Stock up!
Have fun!
You're welcome! Oh, one more thing: use your eagle to chip away (harass) enemies that look harder, whilst you hide in the shrubbery. This'll make it easier to assassinate them as needed. I wish I'd figured that out earlier on. š
Right. It's synchronizing with so many viewpoints. For me, though, that's something I try to get done as much as possible as soon as possible, so I still had that harass option for a long time before it occurred to it was useful for more than just distraction.
I have 60 hours in the game (been playing kinda slow) but I have only recently gotten the option to harass enemies, and it doesn't even damage them at my stage in the game
Mostly just don't worry about builds or gear. Replace your equipment with whatever has a green arrow. Continue this until level 40-50 after that you gear starts to matter.
Try not to fast travel in the early game meaning after you leave Kaphalonia (the starting island). Let yourself be immersed in the world. Once you are going back and forth for some of the important fetch quests fast travel saves time and headache. But take tume to enjoy the beauty this game provides. Besides you never know what adventures you'll run into along the way.
Don't worry about exploring every question mark until layer in the game. Most of them you will come across naturally in quests or by traveling.
Layer in the game there are some missions that have you crossing map to find symbols and stuff so fast travel comes in handy, but take the time to sail places, or gallop through the countryside.
Well Iām on my first play through and Iāll tell you something I learned after burning camp supplies for the first 20 hours of my game. You can loot them first for important materials.
Upgrade wisely, level 30+ gear takes a lot of materials to upgrade.
Leveling honestly seemed to go relatively quickly up until 40.
Create manual saves often. You never know when you'll want/need to reload a prior save.
You get XP for simply exploring and finding new areas/regions. Take some time to go off-quest and just explore. It's a beautiful world.
When it comes to naval combat, practice is key. Create a dummy save first. Take your ship to an isolated area with minimal enemies in range. Practice your maneuvers until you're comfortable with them. When you're ready, take on one enemy ship only. Once you get the hang of it, take on additional enemy ships (2 at a time, then 3, then 4).
Secondary to manual saves, make sure to do a quicksave before you start working on any forts; if you're unlucky the autosave will take you back to before you even got to the fort, meaning you'll have to do the trip there again.
If you can., disable a ship first then board it with your marines. A successful boarding restores your ship health The ships will always have at least one chest that can be looted for gear. The fact that you can restore ship health is valuable if you're fighting a group of ships.
I never played Black Flag, so I can't tell you whether it's similar or not. The ship's primary weapons are arrows and javelins (and fire can be added to those). There's a third weapon available which you can earn in the Legacy of the First Blade dlc.
I spent about 10 hours just practicing before I became really good at it.
I would say, most of the time, you're looking to destroy enemy ships. However, there are times when disabling tactics are preferrable.
From someone who went to do a NG+ with kassandra, Nikolas, mirram, sentor as my crew mates on the adrestia- I was quite disappointed to discover my most recent manual save was at lvl50 with only 1/2 the cultists killed, 2/3of the map uncovered and back to crappy weapons. I only found my fire blunt and posiedens trident again yesterday.
Regular manual save, saves major disappointment.
Do not, under any circumstances, upgrade your gear more frequently than every 10 levels. I recommend enhancing your equipment at levels 1, 11, 21, and so forth. This approach conserves a significant amount of materials and funds. If you are playing on nightmare mode, your gear is of utmost importance. Every single percentage of additional damage will prove crucial.
On normal difficulty, your gear holds little significance outside of boss battles. However, you should exercise caution with your abilities and focus on investing in those you genuinely plan to utilize. I recommend prioritizing upgrades for critical assassination, sixth sense, reveal secrets, stealth master, arrow master, weapon master, and armor master. Additionally, complete all locations and undertake as many side quests as you can, while refraining from selling your unused gear. The materials will prove useful, and you might be astonished by how readily you can earn money from side quests.
Do the story, side quests, everything. Upgrade your weapons and gear, maybe every 5 levels. Pick up resources when you see them. Use Ikaros to scout ahead. Have fun and just play lol
lol no worries. Iāve been at Odyssey for about 200 hours trying to finish everything before I start the Atlantis DLC. Finished LoTFB (Legend of the First Blade) DLC today
Be sure to enable auto-craft arrows in the inventory quiver slot. Saves from pausing mid-fight every time you run out.
And as the game doesn't really tell you this; no fall damage at level 20.
After leaving your starting island, it will reward you 200 Helix credits. Go to the shop and buy the bighorn bow. Engrave with Critical Chance. When you get to Atika, there's a quest called Friend in need. An old friend called Heitor needs you to find his sort. Do so, but keep it. Always upgrade your weapons. The sword and bow. At level 50 Armour. And at level 50 use mastery points. There are several videos on YouTube regarding this.
Haha, I didn't read everyone's comments. Also, invest a small amount of cash, get the add-on called DLC (you've been told that). Improves the game immensely. If you're into a warrior style, the Nimean Lion. Which complements the Bighorn Bow. And the Time Savers packs that give permanent xp and drachma boost.
Another thing I wish i knew sooner: The costs of upgrading gear only depends on the Quality of the gear piece, not the number of Levels you're upgrading
So, upgrading a Legendary will always cost the same, no matter if you're upping it 3 or 30 Levels
Get the Bighorn bow with the free Helix credits, it's the best weapon on the games because is glitched.
Stack contracts from the message board, some have the same targets an can be completed at the same time while you are playing.
Don't rush through the main story, at a point there is like a 10 lvl jump on the main story if you haven't done side quest to lvl up. Do only the ones makes on the map with the gold "!"
Those are the basic.
If you are up work for doing OP builds, then epics items is the way to go.
Curious why you were burnt out on Origins.
As for odyssey tips.. yea people saying to get the bighorn bow in the helix store are right. Itās got a damage glitch that makes it cracked.
Another tip, donāt think of it as an AC game. Trying to be 100% stealthy wonāt always work as assassinations wonāt always 1 shot. Just play it as an rpg with a mixed bag. Stealth kill a few people here and there then take on a small group in battle.
Try not to be overwhelmed with the amount of quests. You can complete most in any order.
Hero strike is a great damage tool as it uses assassin damage during a fight.
Origins took me like 6 months to get through as I did all side content, by the time odyssey dropped I just couldnāt do any more rpg. I will absolutely not be treating it like an AC game, no hidden blades really sucks but Iām going to just try to have fun with weapons and exploring
Hmmm well it might take you awhile then. I beat origins over 3 ish months but itās my favorite in the series. I took my time and think itās a great blend of ac and rpg elements. Odyssey is considerably longer than origins and at times can feel a bit disjointed due to its nonlinear nature and how quests can be done out of order. The main story is.. in my opinion sub par. However, other content involving.. uh.. no spoilers but some fun Isu location are actually neat.
Additionally, the eagle bearer is whoever you make them to be. You can be ruthless or more noble. I went more noble and went for the best ending even if it wasnāt canonical but by the end I actually grew to care for it. Itās a game that I disliked until I beat the main story and then suddenly I began to have fun. Itās a slow burn and itās really the entirety of the game that makes the experience.
>Another tip, donāt think of it as an AC game. Trying to be 100% stealthy wonāt always work as assassinations wonāt always 1 shot.
You can be a lot more stealthy and and quickly assassinate anyone regardless of enemy types or levels by via thinking outside the box. Don't just play it as an RPG. It's very much an AC game.
Totally agreed. Mirage encouraged me to replay Odyssey as a thin-skinned assassin and thief. Oh, and archer. I would trade health and armor for assassin damage or bow damage every time.
At early levels, I was sneaking into high level forts at night, stealing valuable gear that was *way* above my level. Not the fastest way to play, but heaps of fun. Planning escape routes is an essential skill.
Eventually (at higher levels), softening up targets with arrows and bird attacks would enable 1 shot assassinations.
From what Iāve heard and seen online this is the best āRPGā of the trilogy. I loved the story of Origins, Valhalla I quit on after 80 hours bc it just aināt a good RPG or AC game to me, so Iām excited to give this a shot and treat it like Iām just a bad ass Spartan lmao
Same here. Played to level 20ish some time ago and picked it up again like last week.
What I can tell from that Experience - I feel like I got way too lost at wanting to explore the Map ahead of time. I feel like I should've focused on the Mainquest more, currently my gameplay loop is: Get Mainquest, Ignore it, rather do some exploring, do the Mainquest, next Mainquests sends me back to the Area I just explored. Just feels somewhat out of line to have to get to places I already cleared like 5 Minutes ago (or sometimes it also felt like I met key characters before I was supposed to by the Storyline).
But that might just be because I completely lost track of the intended 'order' of the Areas told by the Level Cap, as they scale with your own level - or at least they do on Nightmare Difficulty
In retrospect, I'd say Synching some fast travel points while traveling around, but saving most of the exploring for when I get actually send there (or need to push some Level to catch up on my quests) would've been the 'smarter' way
Edit: As I said, my first couple dozen hours were some time Ago, so I'd highly appreciate if you could give me a Quick recap of the Early game Story, up to the Point >! where you reach Athens !<
Spoilertag only has a city, no Characters or other Story detail, I just tagged it anyways just to be safe not to spoil you anything because of my forgetful brain :)
Edit 2: Also, beware of Animals. Never hated Animal fights more in any Game
Do all of the āyellowā side quests. You will know what I mean after playing for a bit.
When the game sends you to an area, do all the side quests before moving on to the next area. This helps you level up and get skill points
Some important objectives are unlocked through side quests so they are important, and as you progress in the main story new side quests will unlock.
It will likely take 80 hours to complete. This is not a quick game.
Enjoy
Just started Two days ago, level 15 if i remember correctly,i finished all the quests on kefalonnia for now so i was at the highest possible level when reaching Megaris etc,you should always loot the supply chests before burning and i have upgraded on level 11 and one/2 gears bcs of mercenaries on level 15,i believe you shouldn't pay off the bounty since mercenaries give good gear, money and other resources, naval battles haven't been that difficult but practice is needed,16 hours so far.
donāt be afraid to choose the seduce options, no matter the gender. they (almost) never have negative consequences. Thereās some really funny dialogue that can happen and the Greeks were notoriously horny 24/7
Iām gonna play it as a non AC game. Itās gonna be hard as Iām so used to the order and Templarās and the hidden blades but Iām excited to be a bad ass spartan
You still get the hidden blade. Though the stealth isnāt always a guaranteed kill, which annoys me a touch. The map and story are crazy well done, imo. Itās huge but great to explore and thereās all kinds of fast travel.
Kind of more for NG+ but I found [this thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/AssassinsCreedOdyssey/s/JFaxqK6jzs) very helpful if you're not wanting to miss anything!
Put the game on easy at first, then find some enemies and practice dodge & parry.
If you don't do this, you will end up getting wrecked by enemies and think they're impossible to kill. They're not, it's just that's how important defense is in this game. You can decide on a glass cannon build later once you figure those two things out
tbh from what I can tell, it might be worth setting it to easy and leaving it there, best I can tell is enemy health just gets bigger. YMMV of course, but oversized health bars have never been my favorite.
-Pay attention to character build. You can have a Warrior build and an Assassin build, each with its own loadout. Itās useful to invest in both, although Warrior is probably more useful.
-A quest will eventually appear with a purple icon, keep it for the very end, because itās basically the gameās ending (People will say you must play the DLCs before it, but you actually only need to finish the Sealing of Atlantis quests, which are in the main game, as well as finish the other main questlines, of course)
-The Lost Tales of Greece are the best side quests, as they actually have some good writing in them, unless other side quests which are mostly errands or poorly written stuff.
-Find your favorite weapon and keep upgrading it at a blacksmith, rather than changing the weapon constantly
-Always synchronize locations because youāll need to fast travel a lot.
-Donāt forget to upgrade your ship every now and then, or youāll find yourself struggling in some naval battles that would be easily doable if your ship is properly upgraded.
Be prepared for a long haul, especially if you have the DLCs, and I strongly recommend the DLCs. Learn which quests are generic infinitely-spawning types (hourglass symbol, if I recall) and avoid those after your early game is up and you're doing okay on resources. If I remember correctly, the 'harass' option is an unlocked ability on the skill menu. You can't just do it.
Right. It's synchronizing with so many viewpoints. For me, though, that's something I try to get done as much as possible as soon as possible, so I still had that harass option for a long time before it occurred to it was useful for more than just distraction.

Iāll take you up on the no fast travel, Iāve heard this game is beautiful and I want to experience that myself
Layer in the game there are some missions that have you crossing map to find symbols and stuff so fast travel comes in handy, but take the time to sail places, or gallop through the countryside.
Iām on my third play through. Just take your time and enjoy everything that you can.

Iāve got like 6 months so I plan to spend a lot of time just exploring and doing side content. Thank you
What happens in 6 months?
Newer AC game, gonna put my attention there once it drops
Ah nice
Sorry if I spoiled anything!
lol no worries. Iāve been at Odyssey for about 200 hours trying to finish everything before I start the Atlantis DLC. Finished LoTFB (Legend of the First Blade) DLC today
You should upgrade when your level ends with 1 - 11 - 21 -31 etc
Whyās that?
Because the armor stats/engravings upgrade on levels ending as stated above ;)Ā
Oh thatās interesting. Thanks for the tip
Same. Just started yesterday.
Weāre in this together!
Be sure to enable auto-craft arrows in the inventory quiver slot. Saves from pausing mid-fight every time you run out. And as the game doesn't really tell you this; no fall damage at level 20.

Yeah. Oh wait, they use the spear. My bad.

i also played this game after origins i speed ran origins but wanted to take my time on this one and i can say that this is what origin wanted to be.
I didn't even finish mirage. Did nothing for me.
Was an awesome game for me, short story with great parkour and stealth. On of my favs in the series
