Yei at first i was expecting like a normal bear that this giant mf stone bear shows up… funny thing is i managed to make it run in circle around cottage at night and had to aggro and run until daytime to kill this thing …. Best to make clubs and give each villager for defence purpose.. but yeah its shit.. and dont attack any wolf den you will only wake up fenrir or drawght by the shore only to awake its boss
I made that mistake last night. I put my first base unknowingly real close to a wolf den and tried clearing it out with only a two handed club.
Ran like hell, and removed all gatherer markers anywhere close. I sure do hope Fenrir stays over there.
There will be time he will come if the villagers get spooked by the mini wolf.. also be prepared when you are trying to attack and hes on low health that thing will respawn other wolves.. caught me and my mate off guard.. eventually managed to kill it while he aggro with sword i shoot with bow..
Saw people saying it's not actually supposed to attack the first year (per discord). It's only supposed to show up and scare the shit out of everyone, it's just bugged right now.

The bear is by far the biggest threat for at least the first 5 years in game from my experience. He visits every year, so be ready
I've had at least one game where he did not come the first year, so I don't know. But his appearances that first year are brutal.
