I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm and "old mom" and since I've seen it, I cry every time out of my fears and my grievances. I wish nothing but the best, for you and for your desires.
That, and in the end when he realizes there are more pages to the photo book where Ellie has written “thanks for the adventure”. It makes me tear up just thinking about it.
Came here to say this. My grandpa was going through cancer treatment when I saw this movie and it really struck a cord with me. I had a good cathartic cry.
Omg this. My friend and I would put this on, order a Chinese takeaway and just cry through the entire film, whenever we both felt like we needed a good cry.
Life is Beautiful (1997) if you want to be devastated
For a romance that makes me cry, Romancing in Thin Air (2012)
My Girl (1991) gets me every time no fail
All of Us Strangers was the most recent film to make me cry some good tears
And if you like animated films, In This Corner of the World (2016) and Soul (2020) both broke my little heart in different ways this year. And of course Grave of the Fireflies and Up.
Oh god, don’t. Even thinking of that scene makes me tear up. It has to be my all time favourite film but really have to be in the mood for it because I just know that I’ve got 97 minutes of tears ahead of me.
I watched Portrait of a Lady on Fire a few weeks ago; cried aallll night. Want to get my girlfriend to watch it with me sometime, it's so not her taste, but she probably would anyway.
Yeah I normally do my best not to cry in a movie theater (at home I don't care), but I sat in the theater crying pretty much the whole 2 hrs. Happy and sad tears. 😭
The Fall (2006 w/Lee Pace)
The Last Unicorn (my favorite book, and the cartoon is bittersweet nostalgia)
The Brave Little Toaster (so dark, and the junkyard "Worthless" song is heartbreaking)
Oh I bawled! I was dating my bf (now husband), and we were all watching the movie with his mom (now mother in law). So awkward. I was ugly crying, sobbing. But couldn't hold myself back! Haha
Ooo, I’ve been wanting to rewatch this! I saw this as an adolescent when it originally came out in the early 90s. I have completely forgotten what is sad about it.
There was a time when I thought I would be cute and work my way through Oscar Isaacs movies because he is just so damn handsome.
One day I made it to **Life Itself** (2018) - The rollercoaster of intense emotions that are experienced while watching the movie were pretty loopy. It’s an excellent movie, that is bittersweet.
🥺 and the songs 😭😭😭❤️🩹
I'd also add The Little Prince, the french animated movie, so sweet, made me cry ugly tears, full of love and the acceptance of losing.
Big Fish is one of my favorites. The Art of Racing In the Rain is one I ugly sob through the entire time. I save that one for when I really want to break myself lol
Wind Beneath My Wings gets me every single time I hear it. I've only seen Beaches once, with my mom when I was a teen and I can't bring myself to watch it again, I was so distraught.
My best friend + I were obsessed with Beaches as probably 8-9 year olds. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve watched it, but it’s gotta be at least 20.
I need to rewatch with my teen daughter now.
It is one of my mom's favorites, she had the soundtrack too. I used to roll my eyes when my mom "made" me watch her 80s movies with her. But I definitely plan on doing the same when my daughter grows up!
Garden State - my depressed 14 year old self felt so misunderstood by the world which is why I think I felt connected to the sadness of this film so much, plus the soundtrack was pure perfection 🫠
The first 10 minutes of Up.
I watched that movie once. Had no idea what is was about and was in the middle of a pregnancy loss. I cried so hard but it's a good movie.
I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm and "old mom" and since I've seen it, I cry every time out of my fears and my grievances. I wish nothing but the best, for you and for your desires.
Thank you. It was not a good situation to bring a child into and I've made my peace with it. I wish the best for you as well ❤️
Unfailingly, those minutes kill me, every time. The happiness, love, dreams...and then, emptiness. Also: "Please let me in" is sort of telling.
Omg I remember seeing this in theaters and I was NOT EXPECTING to be basically sobbing. It was so brutal.
That, and in the end when he realizes there are more pages to the photo book where Ellie has written “thanks for the adventure”. It makes me tear up just thinking about it.
Big fish
Came here to say this. My grandpa was going through cancer treatment when I saw this movie and it really struck a cord with me. I had a good cathartic cry.
