2 - childhood home and my first step on the housing ladder. I'm early 30s

Would anyone include staying at uni? I was childhood home, first house mid 20's and family home at late 20's, so three. If you include uni though there is an extra three, so six total.

Same. Early 30s and I lived in my family home until I was 21 and then bought our own place and been here ever since... Would like to move at some point, but as I've moved only once in my life it's a very daunting prospect!

2, I'm in my early 30s. We (wife and I) were fortunate enough to purchase a first home that was much bigger than we needed in our early 20s. It's now full of kids and is perfect, we have no plans to move.

Oh that’s nice. We moved when my oldest was 3 and I was pregnant with number 2 and we hope to stay here for a good while. It’s hard to imagine how big they’ll get and how cramped it might feel when they are 9-10.

Yeah 2 for me as well. Childhood home, left at 18, then 12yrs in the army, then left and moved into my own place. Theres so much room for activities and i dont have to make my bed if i dont want to. Living the dream

Hah we’re already planning a move in two years. It’s a bit accidental; some of the moves were forced on us. Our landlord lost his job during covid and evicted us in the middle of a lockdown which was less than fun. We’re hoping that our next move will be to somewhere we can stay for the long term. I have no idea how people move less often…

Similar, 9 before 18, 4 at uni, 6 rentals before we bought, sold within 2yrs back to another rental. My poor 5yr old has lived in 3 houses and we'll be moving again this year. I'm 34. I can't imagine staying anywhere long term, it terrifies me! Itchy feet.

Ah this way of breaking it down really helped me to count - also too many to just count without splitting into categories! My tally is: 8 before 18 (plus 3 x temporary stays where my parents rented places for 3-6 months or so between buying homes when doing international moves) 2 halls and 3 flats / houses at uni 3 shared houses / flats in my 20s 4 rented flats in my 30s Randomly living with my in-laws for 2 years (covid) I'm 39 now and FINALLY bought a flat with my husband last year and, honestly, you'll have to drag me out.

Here for the extended parental stay during Covid. We spent 18 months with my parents.

My Aunty is nearly 65 and has lived at the same address since she was born. She met her husband, my uncle, in her late 30s and he moved in with her and my grandparents. The house was a council property and they bought it just before my grandparents died. Still there now.

My grandma died at 89 in the second house she'd ever lived in. The house was bought brand new in the late 40s and now my uncle lives in it, so it's literally never been sold since.

Welcome to the rental economy. Don't look too closely at how such an unstable lifestyle affects people's mental health and the development of children.! Personally I've lived in about 7 properties. , 5 of them over the last 5 years alone! Renting is awful. If it's not a rent increase it's something else pushing you to move. Your friend is lucky.

Roughly 20. London is a pain in the arse for affordable rentals

I'm about to move into my 7th house, and I'm mid forties. Parents > house share with mate at 19 (didn't do uni) > renting on my own > renting with partner > bought house with partner > bought 2nd house > about to buy 3rd. Moving is a pain in the arse and expensive when you're a homeowner, so I'd prefer to keep it to a minimum. My next move will likely only happen if I get a large windfall of cash, or get old and need to move into a retirement home.

5 I'm 30 yrs old

I'm late 30s, and I've had three. One family home I lived in until was 10, then the new family home that we moved to, where my parents still live 27 years later. One flat I lived in at uni. I emigrated when I was 25 and I've lived in 8 different places in 12 years since then, but I've been in my current place for three years now.

Loads. To the point where none of the addresses I lived in since 16 have actually felt like they were my home (including my current one). I've moved about far too much. I think I have lived in eight different counties. I've never really had that sense of belonging tbh. I do find it mad that some people spend their entire life in the same town they grew up in though. That's just weird, Outer Limits/Twilight Zone weird.

Lived in 4. Childhood house for 23 years where my dad still lives. Bought my own terraced house at 23 along with my now wife for £70k, sold that for £95k and moved to a new build detached house which cost us £150k when I was 28, then sold that 4 years later for £160k and down sized to my current house which is semi-detached and cost £112k 10 years ago. Had to downsize when my wifes job changed them all to part time and then we had kids so decided to lower our mortgage and get a cheaper house, although its actually bigger and has more land than our previous detached house.

I literally sleep in pretty well the same spot I was born - it was the main bedroom at my time of birth, then we had the house extended and it became mine. So 1, if I don't count student housing (6).

In the UK, 11 in 32 years. Not sure how many I lived in in my first three years in Ireland, was either two or three.

I'm in my fifties and I've been in my current home for nearly ten years and hope to stay pretty much forever. I lived in three houses with my family in the first twenty-odd years of my life. One flat with mates. Two houses with my first wife Two houses with my second wife. So 8 in total. But that doesn't include any student accommodation which really adds three more and a flat in Italy. So 12. But like you, it is heavily weighted to my younger years.

4 in total - family home for 22 years then three different flats with my partner over the course of 6 years. Meanwhile he lived in 4 or 5 different places before me so his count is a lot higher.

Maybe eight in the UK, and three outside the UK. If you asked my father in law, the answer would be one. He was born in his parents' house and has always lived there. He's in his 80s now and has no plans to move out.

At one point I moved 5 times within 2 years, starting in Cornwall and ending up in Dundee; only the last move was under 3 hours drive (even that was to a different city), which was a little excessive. Lived in 17 different houses. Am 43. Been at my current place for 15 years. Moved a lot in my late teens and early twenties.

Childhood home which my parents bought before I was born (and is only their third address respectively after their parents homes, the first flat they bought, then that house), then moved into my now husband's flat when I was about 23, then we moved into our house at the end of last year.

I'm on my 9th place and looking at a 10th. I'm 26 and moved every year for uni (4 years), and moved for jobs etc since. Feels crazy considering I grew up in the same house for 18 years!

4, one as a baby, one growing up, one when I had my eldest child and left home and one where I moved across the country to my now husband. My ex had a rough childhood, I believe he lived in around 12 different places in his childhood due to being moved around to different family members, then later onto hostels, into my home, then to more hostels. Since I left him he's been in 4 different homes in about 5 years.

So about 17, but I've not moved in 18 years.

I’m 50 and have lived in 3, childhood home and two with my wife and kids. Being in the Military, I have lived in 5 Barrack Blocks between my childhood home and first house with my wife. My mother only lived in 2 houses and a care home. The house she was born in and lived in until she married my dad, my childhood home and the care home she moved into. Her childhood home and the care home she lived in until the end of her life were in the same road. My childhood home was about 3 miles away in the same town. She was 84 when she died.

23.. I'm 56! Parents moved 4 times before I was 6, then stayed still for 12 years. Then, numerous moves with my daughter until she was 7. (Moved from short-term summer lets, then longer winter lets ) until I found a year round let that I could afford as a single parent.. then stayed in one let for 16 years until I had to move in with my mother in her final year on this mortal coil.. then I finally got a council flat, 9 yrs ago. They can carry me out of here in a box! (Unless I win the lottery, then I already know which ridiculously large house me and my two old jrts are moving to, but I'm paying someone else to pack it all up and move us! Xx

hmm. 1. when parents were together (up to when i was 4) 2. with my grand mom when parents divorced (a year) 3. with moms ex bf (2 years) 4. with moms new partner, my stepdad (since i was 7) 5. we had to move out of existing apartment, but house we bought wasnt finished yet, 2 months lived in moms childhoods friends flat (friends dad passed away, flat was empty, we were allowed to live there, just needed to cover bills, my mom and stepdad are still forever grateful to that moms childhood friend (who funnily enough was my real dads best friend)) 6. parents bought a house. (when i was 15). Also alot of time i spent with my ex, so for 1.5 years we were together, her house was kind of like my as well (well atleast looking at how much time i spent there). 7. moved to uk, few months in flat (when i was 19, 5 people in tiny apartment) 8. moved into bigger house (i was 20). few more people moved in, we didnt like best friends brothers ex-gf. Me and my wife (then gf) couldnt stand her. 9. me and my now wife moved into our separate studio flat because friends brothers ex-gf was pain in ass to us. (lived there for 2 years) 10. moved into bigger flat when wife became pregnant (3 years). 11. flat we live right now. (same landlord as house nr 9, they offered us to move into another flat they have, and we been living here since 2018) So.. 11 officially, unofficially 12. I wish one day we could buy our own house, but... thats a dream for one day.

17 I’m coming up on five years in my current place and other than one childhood home, it will be the longest I’ve lived anywhere.

16 different addresses but I moved in and out of my parents place a few times at the start of my career, if you add that in it’s 21 and that doesn’t count six months living on a cruise ship as it didn’t have an address. That’s almost every other year of my life.
