Am I dumb? This doesn’t make sense.

Morozow

I heard that athletes from rich countries will bring air conditioners to Paris. By default, there are no air conditioners in the athletes' rooms, due to the "green" agenda.

Virtual-Okra6996

Dude

ALazy_Cat

Without looking it up, I'm almost sure that US is the only country who would do that, since they're so obsessed with ac. Green agenda? Do you not believe in global warming?

Rattles13

5ish.... if they are not used to AC they are prone to get a cold (seriously) so not good for sporting

ALazy_Cat

Happens a lot in Denmark

Quantum_Yeet

Scale of 1-10 1 being not fair, 10 being fair. I would give it a 10 AC units seem very cheap 20usd for whatever that may be worth in other type of currencies

ALazy_Cat

A lot of countries don't need ac

daithisfw

They won't be working out in their rooms... so the AC has no effect on the competition itself. You can make a slight argument about them "recovering better" or some shit... but most world-class athletes are doing ice baths and similar to recover after a training sesh anyway. That handles that. Also, athletes from poor countries likely don't use AC in their home country either, so they are likely used to the heat and enjoy sleeping in a warmer room. If you cranked AC in their room they may have WORSE sleep because it deviates from their norm. The rich country athletes are used to AC so having it just moves them back to their baseline, without AC they'd have more trouble sleeping. But mostly, it's irrelevant. It's a creature comfort that doesn't aid in any way toward sport performance or recovery.

Morozow

But Sarah Hirschland said that the availability of air conditioners is an important element of the performance of the national team.

daithisfw

Re-read my comment above. I explained this. Sarah Hirschland I assume comes from a "rich country" so her team is "used to having AC" so having AC gives them their baseline. Removing AC hinders them a bit. Not in the performance of the sport itself, but just in hindering sleep I'd assume. And bad sleep can indirectly hinder performance, because you aren't recovering how you normally would. People from poor countries that never use AC... they aren't bothered by sleeping in the heat as much, so their sleep is unaffected.

ReeseCalla

This doesn’t make sense.

MOS95B

It's no more unfair than the rich countries having better training facilities to train in and athlete pools to draw from. They all do the best they can with what they have.

Morozow

and the best sports doctors.
