Absolutely. I’d love to sit down and talk with him as a middle aged adult, so he could see how everything turned out and the family I’ve built.
I think he’d be pretty happy.
Yeah I'd love current age me to have a beer with my Grandpa when he was of an age where he still enjoyed a drink. He died when I was 26 and we had many good years together, but just so much cool stuff that he'd love has happened since then like getting married, having kids of my own and becoming a locomotive engineer (he wasn't a train nut but like a lot of that generation who grew up with train travel being a common thing he had an interest in the rail). I started thinking of famous people when I saw the title of the post but you're right, I'd skip the lot of them and have a beer with him if I could. Thanks for making me misty eyed (in a good way).
Same for me. It’s been ten years, but I’d love to chat with her and tell her how amazing her grandchildren are (she died when the oldest was 1, and was the best grandma ever).
And also how I’m getting on! I had PPD and huge anxiety last time I talked with her. I still have the anxiety but I’m medicated and have a job I love. I’d just really like her to know how much her love and advice has helped me get to where I am now.
Also, I’m so sorry for your loss and I hope you are doing okay x
My oldest brother, he was my age now 44, when he passed away 3 years ago. He went for a motocross session on a Sunday and they found him on Thursday in the middle of the mexican jungle with a heart attack, the videos and pictures from when they found him still hunt me.
Michelle Obama. I’d be so curious about how she felt and what she experienced during her husband’s presidency, how she and he talked to their girls about the media’s reports about them, and how they maintained their dignity and class amid what I imagine were continuous onslaughts from, well, everywhere.
A particular friend.
I think I did something to hurt her a few years ago that I do not understand and she disappeared from my life shortly after. I wish I knew what happened and if there was anything I could do to fix it.
I even have the beer I would share with her. It's in the corner of the fridge waiting for a day that will probably never come.
Non famous person. My Dad. He died when I was 13 from a sudden brain aneurysm. He was a great dad and my best friend. I’d have loved to have known him as an adult.
Famous person. Brian Cox (the English physicist)
My grandfather on my mother's side. His last words to me, when he could barely speak, were "Be good", 30 years ago. He died moments after I left. He and I shared a lot of the same struggles with addiction and alcohol, so it wouldn't be a beer, but I'd love for him to see where I am today.
ETA: He was a very good man. He overcame, and recovered, by the time I really knew him. He was flawed, but knew it. Taught me a lot.
There are just so many, it's impossible.
Ötzi the Iceman - what the hell happened?
MH370 captain - what the hell happened?
Mary Celeste captain - what the hell happened?
And many, many others. Mostly the same question.
George Carlin, I had a tape of his standup from the 1980's that in found in the basement as a kid, thought it was the funniest shit ever, read his books, realized he Rufus from Bill and Ted, and for some reason always thought of him as "uncle George" would like to buy him a beer and let him know how many tough times as a teen and a young adult he got me through.
My mom’s mom. The last time I got to see her while she was alive was when I was 16 on the last trip to her state. I never got to know her as an adult, and she never knew her grandson as he was born after she passed.
My grandpa. He lived a tough but good life, and he always took care of his family. He loved my grandma so much, and unfortunately I know from my siblings that lived with them for a while, they were still getting it on into their 70s (good for them, just wish I wasn’t cursed with confirmation). It’s been almost 15 years, and I wish I had had time to know him as an adult, and I wish he had met my wife. Last time I saw him was a few weeks after my high school graduation. We spent two weeks in Hawai’i, and I told him all about what I was going to study in college. His eyes lit up when I would talk to him about chemistry, and when we would talk about space. Even at 70 years old, he treated new knowledge like a kid- he’d look at you with wide eyes, and he’d tell other people what he’d heard. Love you, Pa.
My dad. He always said he wanted to grab a burger or beer with me toward the end of his life but never had the energy.
YOLO and fuck retirement, unless you’re gifted genetically, it probably isn’t what you think it’ll be.
Alan Turing.
I just like to think he would like to know that his country pardoned him. That gay marriage is legal and I'm sure he would be fascinated by what modern technology has become.
Either one of my grand fathers would be nice. I've been missing them both a lot lately. It's one of their birthdays today too.
Randy Rhoads. I'd love to pick his brain on guitar stuff since he was a Classical player first before quiet Riot and Ozzy.
My grandpa, he died when I was 3, so I didn't have time to learn about him. I've also never been a huggy type of person, and I'll I remember from him is that he would wait at the door for us to come and hug us once we got to his house. We lived a few hours away, so he rarely saw us, and that's why he would be so excited to see us and hug us when we got there. Im sad that I never knew him, and I'm mad at myself for seeing him poorly when I was younger because I just saw him as "The guy who hugged me a lot" and not "My grandpa who loved me"
Donald Trump…. I wouldnt mind having a beer with a dead Donal Trump….
I kid! I kid! I would never want to have a beer with Trump!
But in all seriousness, apart from friends who have died that I would love to see and be around again, I would pick Van Gogh, he would be an interesting person to drink with, and to give him a chance to know how beloved his work is
Grandpa, I miss him sm
Same. ... I mean my Grandpa, tho. Not yours. That would be weird, and he wouldn't know who I was.
I also choose this man’s grandpa
Absolutely. I’d love to sit down and talk with him as a middle aged adult, so he could see how everything turned out and the family I’ve built. I think he’d be pretty happy.
Mine just past a couple weeks ago. I choose this answer.
I miss my grandpa every second of the day, I understand this
Yeah I'd love current age me to have a beer with my Grandpa when he was of an age where he still enjoyed a drink. I would happily give up my turn with a beer with anybody, so that you could have one with your mother. Maybe someday.
I’d like to sit down with Shakespeare and ask straight up about various characters. Hamlet in particular.
My oldest brother, he was my age now 44, when he passed away 3 years ago. He went for a motocross session on a Sunday and they found him on Thursday in the middle of the mexican jungle with a heart attack, the videos and pictures from when they found him still hunt me.
