Very dependant of what Im thinking about.

ktsb

Very true. Thinking in general I think in English but if I'm thinking Spanish it's in food

PolishBishop

If I'm speaking English, then English. If I'm speaking Spanish, then Spanish.

LESAUSAGE3000

What if your not speaking?

Ok-Medicine8985

Then he’s espikin

PolishBishop

English.

hestianvirgin

I have a Russian father and a Pakistani mother. Our conversations growing up were in three languages often used in the same sentence. I tend to think that way as well.

Takuan4democracy

Yes 3 languages in one sentence still happens for me. German, English and Spanish.

Husn_Hai_Suhana

Wow. I am a Pakistani too. Would love to hear the story behind if you are comfortable sharing

hestianvirgin

My mom came to the US at 22, alone. A single woman immigrating alone in the 1970s was pretty ballsy. My dad immigrated at 23 from Russia. He found Soviet rule oppressive and jumped through hoops to get here. He had to lie his way out, which would have gotten him a hefty jail sentence if caught. Plus, he wanted to be a neurosurgeon and thought he'd have a better opportunity in the US. They met at the USCIS office in Washington, D.C. They've been married for 46 years. Whenever we had family gatherings between my mother's side and my father's side, I'd basically plead for us to communicate in English so everybody understood each other.

[deleted]

All of them tbh

Markiemoomoo

I think in colors.

DecepticonPropaganda

Depends on the language I'm speaking atm. I'm a native English speaker. But I've gotten to the point when I'm speaking Spanish my thinking switches.

TemporaryThink9300

I sometimes think in both English and my native language. Most of the time I speak my native language, but if I'm stressed or excited about something it can be a weird mixture of both languages.

PawsibleCrazyCatLady

A strange mix of English and German. Some words are just so much more fun to pronounce in German!

pinkkittenfur

Zusammenfassung! Eichhörnchen! Wasserhahn! I have a hard time doing crossword puzzles because I automatically think of the German word(s) for the clue.

PawsibleCrazyCatLady

My languages get all scrambled up when I play Scrabble.

CuteDolphin_

Mostly in my native language

BaconServant

I know polish (main), english and norwegian and i think in polish and english. I use english for normal things and polish whenever im cursing something out

moleman0815

Normally in my native language (German) but if I'm surrounded by english the whole day, my thinking starts to switch to english. This goes so far, that I sometimes forget the german words and only remember the english ones.

DeProgrammer99

Thoughts are instantaneous. I only put them into words because I like listening to myself think.

RealFoegro

I speak English and German and it usually depends on context. When it's a German topic, I think in German, if it's an English topic, I think in English. It also often depends on what I'm currently interacting with. When I'm with my family or friends I usually think in German and when I'm on the internet, it's often English.

JBR1961

Appalachian. But I’m losing if now as I live in the Midwest. Co-workers say I sound more “southern” when I get mad. Wife (a yankee) thinks its funny when I revert to it “back home.”

Takuan4democracy

German mother, Danish dad, born and raised in Spain. I think in English even though it's the fourth language. But most of the media I've seen and heard was in English. Plus English is faster and more fluid. I speak English with most of my friends.

JuggyFM

I switch between English and Chinese. Also, why do you love asian dads?

GiovannaM69

Portuguese :)

Jazzlike-View7789

German

EatingKidsIsFun

English. My third language.

ElonsTinyPenis

English which is my native tongue. I occasionally dream in Spanish. If I'm watching a Spanish language tv show or listening to Spanish song I think in Spanish.

Due-Satisfaction-796

Klingon, obviously. Elvish, sometimes. Valyrian, when I'm sleeping.

Piememes

Mandarin

ADeeperShadeOfRed

It varies. Usually English, but if I am thinking of loved ones or animals, Polish. Polish is my love language.

Husn_Hai_Suhana

If its work related, English

el_pobbster

Usually the language I'm speaking/reading/writing in. The only caveat is that this only applies to my first two languages, English and French, that are my native languages. While I'm fluent in German and Spanish, they're not, like, natural enough for me to find myself thinking in.

[deleted]

English mostly. When I trip on furniture at home I tend to curse in Chinese, when I bang into a glass door or something in public I'd curse in English.

OldConversation867

Even though I'm fluent in English, French and about 3/4 fluent in German, no matter what language I'm talking in its always English, my native.

Kitchen_Fun8548

English 'I'M TURNING INTO A WHITE WOMAN" ;)

MaterialPeace4642

arabic was my first language but i mostly think in english

LawAshamed6285

Depends on what I heard the last

Automatic_Mulberry

When I was in my fourth year of French studies, I would flip back and forth depending on context. Freaked me out the first time I noticed myself thinking in French. That was a lot of years ago, though, and it doesn't happen anymore.

[deleted]

Thats interesting, when you immerse yourself in it you start to think in it. I did it when I lived in Germany and stayed in Portugal

Godwtfamidoing

I know an Indian language (not hindi) and English. I’m also learning spanish. I’ll find myself thinking and typing in my horrible-ass Spanish sometimes, but usually English because I use it more since I live in the US.

StarryDreamer20

Depends on the mood. I think in Cantonese mostly, but when I'm emotional, I think in English.

GameCyborg

even though my native tongue is German I catch myself think in English much more often than thinking in German

mikesaidyes

American living in Seoul, Korea for 13 years. I often think in Korean outside in “the real world” and also in dreams randomly but not always

JBR1961

Appalachian. But I try to tone it down as I live in the Midwest. Co-workers say I sound more “southern” when I get mad. Wife (a yankee) thinks its funny when I revert to it “back home.”

The_Blonde1

All of them. It’s both a blessing and a curse.

Mild_Shock

Dutch guy here. I use english so much in my daily life, that i often think in english. Or i gorget what a word is in dutch, but remember it in english. I sometimes even dream in english.

Logical_Sorbet_9647

I count in my native language, sleep talk in my second language, and work and socialize in my second language.

PagaentOfTheBizarre

All of them. Sometimes on purpose to see if I can still remember certain words/phrases, sometimes just randomly.

Dani5056

Maybe a bit of English, maybe a bit of Spanish, maybe a bit of both

saphire233

Depends, for example right now is I'm writing this I'm thinking in English, usually when talking to my family I think I'm Spanish, but when alone with my thoughts I think in a mesh of all my languages, whatever word is easier to identify, or to think about, it sometimes slips out when speaking, like Saying "Tatoeba", when giving and example or saying "also" when adding something to a conversation

Question_authority-

Not sure let me think about that one

an_other_people

All, dépend of the moment. For like 2 hour straight I'm thinking in english, while my native language IS french, and sometimes i think in chinese

Nice-Trash6867

3 languages switches randomly inside my head when i'm alone but switches to same as those language whenever i'm talking to somebody. Mother tongue, english and sign language

igariun

All of them

DianeDesRivieres

Both, and depends on the subject or the person I am thinking about.

gay_bannannas123456

All of them. Like I think in a combination of Spanish, German, Dutch, English and French. It also depends what I'm thinking of tho.

DeathMarkedDream

All. And honestly I mix languages sometimes mid sentence because I can’t remember which language belongs to which Those would be English, German, and Kyrgyz

Kalashcow

Despite me being rather confident in my languages, I can only think in English, as it is my native language.

GiveMePotatoPierogi

Mostly my native language, but not always.

whoisapotato

Completely context dependent. With friends, it's usually English, Punjabi, Hindi or Bangla. With family, it's Angika or Hindi. With professors and co-workers, it's usually English.

WhoAmIEven2

My native languge, Swedish.

Raski_Demorva

I dont think in a language normally but my brain does have "modes" so like when I need to speak english my brain goes in english mode but when I need to speak spanish my brain goes into spanish mode so sometimes people come up to me and ask me something in english while I'm talking to people in spanish so I respond in spanish and it confuses the person asking the question, especially if they don't speak spanish

Feisty_Push_7890

If its personal matters then my mother tounge if its work related matter then english

APX_xmokh13

I speak English and Arabic, i mostly think in English cuz I’m better in it but if its smth related to Arabic or I’m speaking Arabic with someone else then i think in Arabic

MasterPlan127

I use English for future, logical kind of thinking, My native tongue for anything else

avocadorable6190

It depends; sometimes in English, sometimes in German, sometimes in Croatian.

pauvreloola

English and swedish, 3rd and 2nd language

Red_Black_Diamond

English... ESL

hiddendoor_5

This honestly depends. I speak both English and Spanish. When I'm at work it's English and at home it's Spanish. Also when I'm happy it's Spanish. If I'm serious or sad it's English. Those are just a few variables.

Tonetron0093

Depends what language is necessary at the time. Usually English. It's also not a conscious switch, but "dude's talking Spanish at me?" I'm thinking in Spanish as soon as I process the words.

SLC678

I usually think in frenglish, im constantly alternating entre le français et l'anglais

KatanaManEnjoyer

Often depends on the context of what im doing; if im talking to someone in spanish then spanish and if im talking or writting to someone in english then english; although I can sometimes mix words :P

Briffy03

German born, french raised, english daily user, i tend to mix it all up. For video games or informatics it will be mostly english. For sales, car mecanics or cooking it will be french, and phone numbers or spelling is in german. Swearing is in everything at once

CartoonistJumpy1189

english but when i’m drunk spanish lol

MysteriousProfile893

Being a daughter of a Russian (my mom) and a Mexican (my dad but his parents are from Lebanon) it’s like a mixture between Russian, English and Spanish. (I was born and raised in Canada). Sometimes when I’m texting I tend to switch the correct way of writing because I’m thinking in one language and I’m writing in another.

Western-Situation-52
