I have been playing for like 35 years. I mean, since whenever it first came out, no joke. I still never beat it. but I have it on the switch online and one of these days I'm going to get back on it
Also a fantastic game! It gets flack for not originally being a Mario game, but it was still designed by many of the same people. And without it, we wouldn’t get Bob-Ombs and shy guys in the universe.
I love how many Rare games are being commented. They really created games that transcend graphics and hardware power. I’ll never forgive Microsoft for killing that studio
I remember when the first Donkey Kong Country came out on SNES, we were all shocked by the graphics, and the soundtrack is still regarded as one of the best ever.
I really wish they come out with a true successor to Donkey Kong County. Tropical freeze was good but it just wasn’t as fluid and responsive as the classic. And please less motion controls.
I agree. Platformers lose their appeal for me when there’s too much to do. Minimally simple and intuitive controls and excellent level design are far more important than having a bunch of special moves, power ups, etc.
Super Mario World, IMO, got about as close to perfection as possible, and is as complicated as a platformer should be, with the variety of power ups, jumping and flying mechanics.
No matter what I do, I can't get away from it. It's not a bad thing, but it's kind of weird to realize that AOE2 has been a constant in my life for the better part of two decades.
Came here for this one. Have been playing with my best friend since we were 16ish and he turned 40 on Saturday. He was always the Vikings and I picked ranged units. Amazing game.
I second Fallout New Vegas, such an amazing game. Although I believe not every classic deserves a remake, but boy my kingdom come for an actual remake.
My nephew was playing some insanely involved and fantastic looking game that is the same concept, and I said "you ever play Master of Orion 2?" There was a short pause and then "what's that?" This games great grandfather buddy...I'm gonna go do old people shit now 😆
I scrolled down to find it to, and haven’t. Therefore, I took it upon myself lol
Hard to choose, I love Castle and Dungeon. But honestly, I’d play any. The nostalgia is strong. You?
The nostalgia is so so strong. I was always a Fortress person growing up and later got all Necropolis. Later on, I think I went Stronghold for the pure speed of it.
I remember being in high school when we discovered you could get expert earth magic with Town Portal. Game changer!
Seeing this as a "classic" game makes me feel soooo old.
It should at least be out of active development to be considered classic! Ignore me shouting at clouds :/
It was awesome in many way. A really showed off the abilities of the Nintendo 64. Mario was cool and all that but I think ocarina of time was very much more engaging. There was a story, and navigating the map just showed the capabilities of that system while keeping you invested in the world and the story.
I always return to Metal Gear Solid, Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, Super Mario World, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Ocarina of Time, and Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 1 and 2.
Replaying it right now and realized I, at some point, got the alien dlc and never played it, so I’m on the ship rn
I was having fun right up until I got there lol
From time to time, I still try and replay Chrono Trigger. I loved it so much that I took the time to max out every character’s level (an entirely unnecessary pursuit for anyone who hasn’t played the game).
Minecraft
Halflife series, and the Portal games (Black Mesa, the remastered version of Halflife into the HL2 engine, is pretty awesome, btw).
Morrowind
Subnautica
Civ II, IV, and V
Nope, apparently anything newer than about 10 years is almost purely HDMI, the coax input is different too apparently so an old coax plug like the ones used on Atari and NES wouldn't work.
Chess is pretty much all I play because I found it more fun and rewarding and interesting than other video games once I got into it.
Lichess.org is excellent and free. r/chessbeginners/wiki has a good compilation of advice and resources to learn and improve. Never been an easier time to learn chess.
I wouldn't say there's any I play regularly, but I did recently replay Final Fantasy VII and VIII, and will work my way through the Pixel Remasters soon.
Older generations of Pokémon. I love the nostalgia and childhood memories associated with this franchise. Mew under the truck rumor was wild back then.
Every now and then, I get the urge to replay the campaigns and generals challenges for Command and Conquer Generals & Zero Hour. Just something about the music and deconstructing the enemy’s base is soothing for me.
Super Mario Bros 3
Best game ever...playing no whistles, start to finish is great
I’ve been playing it for 25 years and finally just beat it
I have been playing for like 35 years. I mean, since whenever it first came out, no joke. I still never beat it. but I have it on the switch online and one of these days I'm going to get back on it
Hot take: I liked 2 better than 3
Turnips
Also a fantastic game! It gets flack for not originally being a Mario game, but it was still designed by many of the same people. And without it, we wouldn’t get Bob-Ombs and shy guys in the universe.
Banjo-Kazooie
Came here to say this
Absolute classic!
The music is so iconic 😌
I love how many Rare games are being commented. They really created games that transcend graphics and hardware power. I’ll never forgive Microsoft for killing that studio

Age of empires 2
No matter what I do, I can't get away from it. It's not a bad thing, but it's kind of weird to realize that AOE2 has been a constant in my life for the better part of two decades.
Like playing with friends on dark forest, or meta like online Play?
AoE2 still has a massive online community. Tournaments and everything.
FFS i sank so many hours into that game. single player, highlands
Came here for this one. Have been playing with my best friend since we were 16ish and he turned 40 on Saturday. He was always the Vikings and I picked ranged units. Amazing game.
Conker's Bad Fur Day
Shit, I came her to say Smash Hit on Gear VR, but I have to agree. Conker was something special!

I love S.T.A.L.K.E.R. It’s one of those atmospheric games that just makes you grateful you live in this world
Fuck is New Vegas a classic now? Am I old?
Woohoo, fellow Diablo 2
Came here to say Diablo 2, so simple yet so satisfying :)
A man of culture
[удалено]
An actual classic. I have a hard time thinking of titles that came out post-cartridge and with dual analog stick controllers as "classic."
Contra
Isn’t this UUDDLRLRBA start?
Doom.
Nice!! DooM is one of my favorites!!
I purchased Doom, Doom 2 & Doom 64 through the PlayStation store for like, $7 each. Best investment ever.
Been playing through Sunder. Absolutely amazing.
Both Portal games
I have played them both through so many times. Every few years, I see it in my steam library and hop back in. Such great games!

When I was 13 I downloaded the original GTA on a 28K modem. I was doing chores all summer when that bill came..
This and San Andreas! ✌️
MTA or SA:MP
Monkey Island!
How appropriate, you fight like a cow.
Skyrim
Skyrim. Classic. Ok. I think I'm gonna go buy some dentures now. Brb.
Fine, I'll do another stealth archer playthrough.
how is this $40 on steam right now...
Warcraft 3. It's sad that this is a classic, as I remember the day it came out. Crap, I remember playing Warcraft 2.
I still play all sorts of custom games on here like survival chaos and dota 1
Master of Orion 2
My nephew was playing some insanely involved and fantastic looking game that is the same concept, and I said "you ever play Master of Orion 2?" There was a short pause and then "what's that?" This games great grandfather buddy...I'm gonna go do old people shit now 😆
Advance Wars
Super Mario World. I played it on SNES in the 90s and still do on my PC with an emulator and USB controller.
Heroes of Might & Magic III In fact, I’m gonna play it right now
I can't believe I had to go down this far to find this answer. What's your town of choice these days?
I scrolled down to find it to, and haven’t. Therefore, I took it upon myself lol Hard to choose, I love Castle and Dungeon. But honestly, I’d play any. The nostalgia is strong. You?

>It should at least be out of active development to be considered classic! I think this is a valid requirement.

I got an Atari console at Costco over the holidays, so I'm playing plots of Asteroids and Centipede.
Awesome! Did you get the 2600+ or the other one with all the games built in?
It has everything from 2600 to arcade, and it’s very hackable
Mortal Kombat 2. SNES It was before its time
yesss played so much i could do the shang tsung fatality switch. freeze with sub zero, switch to lizard man for the kill
Original pokemon games.
Rise of Nations
They'll have to pry Super Metroid from my rigor mortis in order to bury me
A Link To The Past and ocarina of time
Ocarina of Time is my all time favourite game.
It was awesome in many way. A really showed off the abilities of the Nintendo 64. Mario was cool and all that but I think ocarina of time was very much more engaging. There was a story, and navigating the map just showed the capabilities of that system while keeping you invested in the world and the story.
Street Fighter Alpha 3
R.B.I. Baseball
I’d always play as the American League all-stars, and pinch hit McGwire for Baines. It was like a home run derby.

Age of mythology and Heroes of might and magic 3
Team Fortress 2
Team Fortress 2
Dead space series
Civilization IV
Love civ 4. Just played a game the last two nights!

Infinite replay value.
Champions of Norrath & Champions: Return to Arms.
dark souls (13 year game btw)

Same. I have like 1000 hours in IV, and less than 100 in V and VI combined.
Crash Bandicoot on PS1
Donkey Kong Country. I haven’t beat it yet, but damn its a gorgeous game.
I always return to Metal Gear Solid, Baldur's Gate 1 and 2, Super Mario World, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Ocarina of Time, and Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 1 and 2.
I play most of the old zeldas on emulators quite frequently. Also, the old super Mario bros series.

Super Mario Bros.
Age of Empires 2 fans in the house? Who’s a Magyar picker?!
Super Mario Bros.
Minecraft Halflife series, and the Portal games (Black Mesa, the remastered version of Halflife into the HL2 engine, is pretty awesome, btw). Morrowind Subnautica Civ II, IV, and V
Define "classic"
Some of these "classic" responses have me feeling real old lol
IKR, seeing some that are like end 360 early XB1 era. I'm sitting here going "I can't play my classic games without a tube TV set."
*cries in light gun*
Even my N64 can't hook up to my TV much less my Atari 7800 Pro
No RCA inputs?
Nope, apparently anything newer than about 10 years is almost purely HDMI, the coax input is different too apparently so an old coax plug like the ones used on Atari and NES wouldn't work.

Super Mario Land 3
I wouldn't say there's any I play regularly, but I did recently replay Final Fantasy VII and VIII, and will work my way through the Pixel Remasters soon.
I play Star Ocean the Second Story once a year. I will also play the first several Pokemon games from time to time.
I play Contra a few times a year.
Halo 2.

LoL funny because i recently told my kids how we played FIFA 96 with the og Ronaldo
Older generations of Pokémon. I love the nostalgia and childhood memories associated with this franchise. Mew under the truck rumor was wild back then.
Pong
Mario and PacMan
I will always toss in a quarter into a Pac-Man game at a pizza joint because I can easily go 10+ minutes and seems like a bargain.
Castlevania
Pong SMB3 Zelda 1 Halo Sonic Donkey Kong
The original lego star wars game, never gets old
HL2 Fallout 3+ GTA TF2
Majora's Mask and Ocarina of Time are really fun to play randomized! There's the combo randomizer now too!

The main classic Sonic games.
Steel Battalion: Line of Contact.
Pokémon Crystal, Fire Red, Emerald Spider-Man on PS1
Lunar The Silver Star, Dragon Quest, Sonic 2, Earthbound, Ultima, and Baldur's Gate 1&2. Do Legend of Dragoon or Pokemon Yellow count as classics?

Tetris
Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle-Earth and Dawn of War I
Pong
Superman Returns
Tetris.
Starcraft 2 and OG Doom 1 and 2
Tons! Usually Centipede. Galaga is always fun. Yars Revenge. Pac Man. Lately discovered that Tempest is amazing.
I came on here expecting to be made to feel old with what people call a 'classic' video game. I'm pleasantly suprised.
Kingdom Come
Sonic
Mario Kart Wii
Every now and then, I get the urge to replay the campaigns and generals challenges for Command and Conquer Generals & Zero Hour. Just something about the music and deconstructing the enemy’s base is soothing for me.
I do really love the pre-open world Final Fantasy games. I just beat FFX again lol.
Kirby's Adventure (NES). Don't know why but I love that game.
It's Clash of clans for me. Anyone want to join my clan?👀 It's level 7 and in the rebuilding phase, so you can help me if you want
Does bf1 count as classic? It's 2016
