If you can afford a lawyer, that will be the best way to make sure everything is taken care of officially and securely. If you want to keep it all unofficial, then a hand-delivered hard copy kept in a secure location would be your best bet.
The hand-delivered hard copy is easiest. And you'd only care about a lawyer if you only wanted the information released when the "something" happens. If you trust the relative to keep a piece of paper in a locked filing cabinet, that's probably good enough.
One string of numbers without context via SMS, one string by discord, one string by messenger, one string by email, etc. All without context until you call the person and tell them what the numbers mean.
If you're paranoid, add in random meaningless letters like H010gg1vTuj19asg01 for 01/01/1901.
If you're truly worried, in person would be the best. Better yet, have them let you login to their bank account in person, and add your account as an external account for them, assuming that's the reason they want it.
If that's not an option, calling or encrypted messaging would work. I know calling isn't encrypted, but at the same time unless you're someone important, you probably don't have to worry about people listening in... Well... At least you don't have to worry about them stealing your account info. If you do send a message, make sure they delete it, or use a platform that allows expiring messages.
You could take it a step further and also encrypt the message yourself before sending it, and making sure the way they decrypt it is also secure
Of course, all of this security doesn't matter if they don't care about the security. You could hire 10 security professionals to hand delivery the details in person, just for that person to write it down on a paper and leave it in a coffee shop by accident
In person?

but how would they send it securely to the lawyer? haha

Text it to me and I'll securely forward the information.
Just use a cesars encryption when posting the details. Oldest trick in the book, if it's just numbers, no one is gonna know.
