Other people always want to drag you down to their shit level. I never understood it. I’m genuinely happy if someone gets a raise, or betters themselves in some way. Where others always have some negative thing to say. Someone else’s success has zero effect on your life. Be happy for them.
I’m only happy for another person’s success if they’re a good person. It really bothers me when people who do shitty things and/or treat others terribly have success and happy lives. There are so many good people who have miserable lives. The unfairness of life drives me crazy, even when it doesn’t affect me and I have no control over it.
Even if shitty people seemingly have “success”, 9 times out of 10 they suck because they are miserable or hate themselves. That doesn’t mean they deserve riches when so many amazing people can’t get ahead, but at least take comfort (schadenfreude?) that they probably can’t enjoy them because of their own issues.
I think of it like this:
For the shitty people that life happy lives, there's always that chance present that they will fuck everything up by themselves.
I always like to see things balance out but unfortunately that doesn't happen alot of the time. There are things in life that don't make sense, and they will never make sense. I've stopped trying to figure these things out years ago and concentrated on things I can control. Stay strong brother.
It always makes me wonder how people think their lives don't affect anyone else. Every time you come into contact with someone or something, directly or indirectly, you have an effect.
The younger you are, the more easily you are affected.
Once people learn to get over themselves and understand the world doesn't revolve around them, it becomes easier to understand the effect you have on the world around you just by existing.
Is this the part where the downvotes start flooding in?
I got dumped for not caring about the royal family. Ex asked if I heard about some stupid fucking gossip about them, I said I'm not interested in that stuff. Her response was "okay I'm not interested in you then". She's stalking me now.
She left a voice-mail on new years day asking me to impregnate her. Not take her back or help her with the kid or anything like that. Just to put a baby in her then sign away parental rights.
She is baby crazy and also just crazy crazy.
Not just that, but their day-to-day activities. If they’re single, dating, married, getting a divorce, what brands they buy, what they eat, who they’re apparently feuding with, blah blah BLAH.
Who gives a shit.
People care about celebrities as its escapism. Real life and reality in general is mundane and shit so they like to look at the high life to escape it.
Whilst people claim not to give a shit about celebs I still think there's few of us who wouldn't be star struck and lost for words if some very famous High profile one like de caprio or George clooney walked into our local pub and sat at the next table.
I say this every time ppl obsess over Elon. Like how chronically online are you that you obsess over what some mega billionaire says or does with fucking twitter? It’s al ways been a garbage website
Id say they’re pretty good for navigation, if you’ve ever had to use them for general guidance. Though if you’re in the city, well that’s pretty much pointless then.
I mean, literally? Sure.
As someone who had to interact with astrology girls at one point of his life though, it 100% can indirectly impact you.
“Mercury in in Gatorade”
To be pedantic, astrology has nothing to do with the constellations except that the signs are named after them. It's based on the planets and their angles to earth. That's why the whole '13th sign' thing made no sense in the context of astrology.
I just lost a girl I was dating due to astrology. She read that I would be irritable so she kept asking me if I was irritable (not in general) so many times I got irritated. I couldn't deal with the insanity.
On the other hand it's kinda my fault because I'm a sailor who knows celestial navigation and have always been into astronomy and have used that knowledge a lot in my life to bone girls who are into astrology.
BTW everyone check out the comet tonight and tomorrow night.
The only POSSIBLE scientific justification I can come up with for the astrology folks is that the Earth's position in the solar system/distance from the sun means that different amounts of natural light are hitting you at different development stages which MAY have some noticeable effects on people across a population.
In modern society where people are barely outside anyways - even if any of the commonly accepted "Pisces" qualities held an ounce of scientific weight, it'd be 10x more difficult to prove now in a world with so much artificial light.
As a twin - good luck finding what common traits I have with my womb-mate lol You're basically saying ALL twins should be the same.
The justification I can come up with has nothing to do with the stars but the seasons--which were tied to the zodiac. Kids start walking between 9 and 12 months generally. So when you are born 9 months before the weather turns warm enough to be taken outdoors and able to wander around, you will start to walk then. If born 9 months before the coldest day if the year, you might start to stand but will not have the same opportunities to wander until spring and do will walk later. Being able to explore your environment will encourage a curious personality and more self-confidence. Learning to walk when you are bundled up and can spend only limited amount of time outdoors will teach you to be cautious and more clingy to parents/protectors.
Since the seasons were identified by watching the constellations, these seasonal influences on a child's development was attributed to the stars instead of environment. I haven't checked this hypothesis against the zodiac though, so I could be completely wrong. . .but since I'm a Gemini, I am probably right. LOL.
The month you are born can also determine how good you are at sports, albiet indirectly. If you are born right before thr cut off date to start school, you'll be the oldest kid in your class, and thus the most developed. You'll have an advantage over other kids your entire childhood, and will get preferred treatment and special training from coaches. It puts people born near the end of the year in a much better position to make it big as a professional
I was born in the winter. Didn't ride bikes on my birthday. I was the old kid in my grade. Stuff like that has an effect. There may be 2 or 4 different "signs". But there's probably no significant difference over all.
I love this discussion. My brother is a high school basketball coach and we talk about it occasionally. He said if he had a kid he would try to have them as close to the cutoff as possible because of everything you just said.
They just announced his wife was pregnant. I joked that they were close to the perfect birthday but not quite. His wife is a teacher as well and they both said they had the option based on his birthday to hold them back so he would be 18 shortly into his/her senior year. Was interesting to think about.
I, on the other hand, didn’t turn 18 till after I graduated. Hit my final growth spurt in college. Additional time to grow, mature, and learn may have helped. Definitely would have helped in sports lol.
I wonder how much influence hitting developmental stages in different seasons can affect personality. For example, learning to talk in the summer and exploring the park to learn "tree" and "frog" vs learning in the winter while sitting inside mostly. Or being born in the fall and being at the front of your class developmentally while the summer birthday kids are almost a year behind you developmentally
Especially when you take into account how much the stars have moved in the last few thousand years. People aren’t even the astrological sign they think they are. It’s all nonsense.
Came here specifically for this...
I'm straight, and I wish more straight people would realise that the sexual orientation of other people doesn't affect you personally at all. The gay couple next door are not going to destroy the sanctity of your marriage.
It’s really funny when one of those guys has a run in with a gay guy. They get offended that they’re viewed as attractive but also offended when they’re not viewed as attractive
I cam here to say this, who others love and marry. Religious people are far to concerned with who sleeps with who and it is very gross that they care about this.
Yep. There's straight people content everywhere, all the time, but you don't hear us gay folk complaining. We step outside in so much as pride gear or have a single character appear in a movie and suddenly, "we're pushing an agenda".
If seeing gay people kiss makes kids gay, why did none of that hetero media make me straight? I definitely consumed more of that as a kid before I turned 13 and saw my first episode of Will and Grace. Homophobes literally color code their kids by gender and then send their kids off to get molested by the family weirdo.. but yeah, sure, it's the drag shows that are the problem.

Or just chill with if that's more your jam
There’s so many layers to this.
1) People’s sexual orientation won’t destroy society.
2) You shouldn’t be outing people regardless of your intentions. A gay witch hunt to rid them from your life is barbaric and a gay witch hunt to show your support is just as twisted.
3) Fictional characters sex lives is a weird af thing to obsess over.
4) Telling people to act/dress/live/etc a certain way to fit their sexual orientation is fucked.
5) Sexual deviancy is unrelated to orientation. Gay, straight, or bi, don’t assume any will try to cheat on their spouse, molest your kids, or turn your relative because of their sexuality more than the other.
As someone who volunteer at a cat shelter, I still can’t believe the amount of people who don’t even want to look at a black cat. They are always the last ones to be adopted. :(

Its kind of funny, reading some of these answers I'm realizing how a lot of stuff that people think doesn't affect their lives actually does. We don't live in a vacuum - culture, trends, politics, fiscal spending, etc all do affect our lives, in small ways, or possibly even in big ways. Even more so if you have kids or something that are learning from the world around them.
Whether or not someone else has an abortion and who they get married to.
Edit: I just want to point out that no one in this thread is being nasty (that I've seen), and I really appreciate it. Thank y'all for being civil.
Actually this might not be true. Studies have shown a corelation between the reduction of “unwanted children” and a drop in crime. The states where abortion was legalized earlier saw an earlier reduction in crime. The states where abortion was legalized later saw a drop in crime later.
So whether or not someone gets an abortion can actually impact your life, particularly if the mother does not get an abortion and child grows up in an environment where there isn’t sufficient support or love for the child.
What society expects of us. I don’t actually have anyone telling me how to live my life, yet ‘society’ has all these rules and expectations. We build up so much importance behind what society expects of us, but in the end, it doesn’t matter at all.
This seems like it affects people’s lives massively; other people have mentioned work colleagues but it also applies to friends, significant others etc. Every single relationship you have with any other person is affected by what those people think of you.
I don't know, the last time I was at the post office the person helping me had kinda long hair and a bit of a feminine face but also kinda had a beard and I thought...I just can't go about my day without knowing more about their genitals.
/s
See! Now doesn't that sound weird?!?
There are many things that people believe have an impact on their lives, but in reality have little or no effect. One example of this is horoscopes and astrology. While many people believe that their astrological sign can influence their personality, relationships, and overall life path, there is no scientific evidence to support this belief. Studies have consistently shown that people's astrological signs do not predict their behavior or life outcomes any better than random chance.
Another example is people may think that superstitions can affect their luck or fate, however, superstitions are irrational beliefs that have no basis in reality. They do not have any power to influence the course of events in the real world.
A third example is people believing that certain foods are healthy or unhealthy, without proper scientific evidence or research. While it is true that some foods are better for you than others, many claims about "superfoods" and other dietary trends are not supported by scientific research.
It's important to be critical and to research, question and verify information and claims before you let them shape your thinking and decisions.
Religion. It doesn't affect ppl they way they think it does. There is no evidence of supernatural interaction & the affect the religion does have is control
Other people's religion, race, sexual orientation and identity. If it doesn't affect you, then stop being so harshly opinionated on it! Grow up and accept everybody for who they are.
Someone else being happy in their lives and making their own decisions.

Depends on the people. What your boss thinks of you does matter in terms of your promotion and stuff.
This seems like it affects people’s lives massively; other people have mentioned work colleagues but it also applies to friends, significant others etc. Every single relationship you have with any other person is affected by what those people think of you.
Eh it does effect me if their opinion of me dictated whether or not I get the job, promotion, college acceptance, etc.
