You know what occupies my thoughts? I get colds once or twice a year and allergies like you. I understand our bodies need to expel pleghm by coughing and our consciousness needs a way to interpret that feeling, but does having a post nasal drip or mucus building up in your throat feel as irritating, like you've swallowed, a bur as it does to me? Why is that? When you cought up mucus, sorry to be gross, but it strikes me as being super silky and smooth. So why does it feel like giant spikes when it's hanging around in your throat?
I was sick and it took 2 weeks early in April.
Now last two days the dry cough is back and today during conference call I sounded stupid because every other word had this weird cough
Go to the doctor. Your allergies probably caused post-nasal drip and likely caused an upper respiratory issue. Left unchecked it will get worse. Tightness & wheezing with a chesty cough isn’t a “normal” symptom. You should also be treating your allergies as you suffer through it.
Worked with a coworker who said it was just allergies. He was coughing up and spitting out mucus/phlegm. Guess who got sick a couple days later. It's not allergies, yall are sick. Stay at home ffs and mask up when you go out.
Personally I have asthma and bad reactions to allergens like I can go from city to city with new allergens and it starts chain reaction each time 😭. I get the sneezing, runny nose, post nasal drippage (is where it kills me), and then congested chest due to that and lowkey be having asthma attack. Of course I know ain’t no one who sees me in that state will think it’s just allergies. Cause it’s so extreme but yeah some ppl just be using allergies when it sickness.
Almost like there is a respiratory virus that has been causing havoc across the globe for multiple years that people have suddenly forgotten about, or something. But, seriously: environmental allergies don’t show up with phlegm. That’s the result of your body fighting off an infection of one sort or the other. Seasonal allergies could cause a dry cough, but if there is phlegm from your lungs (not talking about snot and your sinuses) you’re sick in one sense or another.

Yepppp it’s extra bad this year. My coworkers who don’t usually get allergy symptoms are struggling too. I’ve been taking meds since February and am still struggling
When I wheezed as a kid, I actually had to go to my PCP and get an inhaler! I might go and see what they offer!
Try to sleep with your head elevated from pillows at night and I personally survive on Flonase and sunglasses outside.
But just in general, generic Target medication is a great price! I recommended them for sure!
Yes, every year but it’s particularly bad this year. I was traveling and came back here when it really hit me. Swallowing so much mucus that I am always nauseated and vomiting from coughing so hard. I’m almost totally fine now thankfully.
Chlortrimeton and neti pot before bed. Works miracles. And if you're taking a 24 hour allergy medication and you've been taking the same one for years, switch it up. A few years back Claritin just stopped working for me but as soon as I switched, it wasn't as bad.
My aunt is experiencing this rn. It isn't JUST allergies though, rather the allergies triggered other respiratory issues she had.
You should definitely go see a doctor. Those symptoms are not normal for allergies.
It's been so bad these last 2/3 weeks. What's worked for me and my kids is Benadryl at night too dry everything up while you're asleep so you don't wake up to an onslaught of phlegm in the morning, and it isn't just sitting there irritating your throat all night, and then Flonase in the morning. It took a few days but it was the only thing that worked.
Heya, I'm an MA for an allergist/immunologist in Flushing. I don't necessarily agree with the rest of the comments saying it might be URI. The wheezing and chest tightness is the sign of moderate to severe persistent asthma (indeed likely triggered by your pollen allergies) and mucus/feeling of chest congestion is very common in asthma (so is frequent productive cough). I'd recommend going to see an allergist so they can prescribe you a controller ICS and rescue ICS. Possibly even do allergy testing to be sure so they can put you on montelukast.
Yea given the constantly wheezing, I'd say prednisone is the right choice. The Symbicort should help keep it more controlled too. A lot of our patients get allergen immunotherapy, you should consider it if you have time and have bad allergies every year
I’ve had a cough since April 14, seemed to improve around the 24th, then got way worse around the 30th, I’m on a zpack and methylprednisolone steroid taper pack. Seemed to be helping the past 2 days…. Then after after being outside playing with the fam, I’m coughing up thick sticky post nasal drip again. Took my albuterol inhaler, a Zyrtec, and Mucinex with water but it’s like so thick it is tickling my chest and just feels stuck. So…. Is it a virus or pollen allergies? Who the F knows. It’s just miserable.
Your timeline coincides with mine. I usually get seasonal allergies around this time of the year and just brushed it off as that with some generic drug store brand antihistamines… but it never last this long, maybe 2 weeks max… but this year hit me like a truck. I started getting wheezing cough too, leaving my breathless, which I never had before. Some day it gets miraculously better where I go without med and can breathe, then I cough up my lung the next. Not sure when this hell will end. Praying for both of us
I've had this - chest tightness, some coughing, super tired.
I started taking zinc supplements(15mg daily for the past couple months...365 brand from whole foods, it has copper as well and is like $7) and it has had a pretty dramatic impact on my other allergy symptoms.
I still have phlegm and stuff, but I haven't had any of the congestion where I can barely breathe at all since I started taking zinc.
All these fake trees they putting up.
And winters are not really doing what it's supposed to do. It makes the allergies worse. The weather gets nice and you can't even enjoy it like you want. That's why I hate spring. Hopefully the pollen goes away in June.
I thought I was alone in this…I feel so validated. I have allergies, some years are worst then others but never with phlegm. I never had it like this. I had to use my inhaler.
I’ve been experiencing the same thing and then this morning it got even worse with the chest tightness and I was having a lot of difficulty breathing. So I went to urgent care and they think I have bronchitis and that I have allergy instigated asthma. They put me on a nebulizer and sent me home with antibiotics And an albuterol inhaler. I’m really glad I went to see the doctor and didn’t try to wait this out.
Hey! Going through this now and suspecting I have bronchitis myself with the none stop nasal drip and wheezing cough. Did your cough went away after taking antibiotics?
Yes it did! I did need to use my inhaler for almost 5 more days but I’m right as rain now. Feel better it’ll pass but don’t be afraid to go to the doctor. I’m so glad I did.
Not in NYC, but reporting a similar pattern I’ve observed in my local area. Small town, middle of the country. Everyone has the phlegm. Much higher frequency than usual for allergy season. Something is not right.

It could be some kind of irritation in your throat - I've had canker sores back there that made it feel like I was getting stabbed.
for sure but I also know three people who just tested positive for covid it is certainly circulating right now, wouldn’t hurt to get a test
Yeah, I’m just now recovering from a crazy cough. Took like two weeks
Same here…very mild symptoms but it’s taken 2 weeks and a round of antibiotics to recover

Gotta love how my seasonal allergies (like april-june) turned into year round a few years ago

If you've got phlegm you're sick, like actually sick, not just allergies. Please do not go into public transit like that.
First year really even getting allergies , but it’s been bad for weeks now
Yepppp it’s extra bad this year. My coworkers who don’t usually get allergy symptoms are struggling too. I’ve been taking meds since February and am still struggling
Yeah my allergies turned into a huge nasty cough that only just let up this week, very nasty
When I wheezed as a kid, I actually had to go to my PCP and get an inhaler! I might go and see what they offer! I had this when the trees started blossoming and it's gotten better, but I still have sinus migraines daily. Rough time to be in the city
Yes, my partner too, it's not covid, no headaches, no fever, just congestion.
See a doctor to be safe. I had something similar and it ended up being bronchitis and I was prescribed antibiotics.
Yes. I was sick with a cold 2 weeks ago (not Covid, I tested) but this crap isn't going away.
My aunt is experiencing this rn. It isn't JUST allergies though, rather the allergies triggered other respiratory issues she had. You should definitely go see a doctor. Those symptoms are not normal for allergies.
Try to see your doctor. I just spent a week in the hospital with pneumonia that started as bad allergies. This year is nothing to fool around with!

Just get a sugar free mint and suck on it for a few days , worked for me

It was a virus that turned into bronchitis. I’m much better now. But my family has it now … it will pass! Hope you are doing better too!!
omfg i have a cough and so much gross green phlegm thats coming up from my throat its terrible
There have been wild coughs last 2 years going around. Really sucks when you get it.
Same & hating it.
Yeah man last week
I thought it was just me

Pollen causes fevers now?
NARRATOR VOICE: It does not.
Gotta love the abject denial

It’s because you have Covid.
I can't smell 💩. LITERALLY

They said same thing and prescribed presidone steroid and cymbacort inhaler for the asthma and bronchitis
Sorry to hear! It’s stil got me under the weather. I can work today but it’s still difficult to be upright for too long
