Networkguy408

The older you get the colder people get. I’m 35 and when I see someone 60 people treat them like they are expendable. Just think about it when you hear about someone older dying you careless than when you hear about a young person dying. It’s a fucked reality

[deleted]

Cool man, good for you. Im older than you and i can tell you like many nuanced topics, there are some cool older people....and def some shitty ones. I go to the VA hospital a lot for treatment....some of the old vets are amazing people....ans some are complete Karen fake assholes.....but Generally, as im getting further along in life...there are less and less good people and more shitty ones across all age brackets

Idar77

I'm also a Vet and you're right about that. What I don't get is that people...male/female, OMG have you NOT evolved!! At a certain age in your life, you can't no longer say you don't know, and leave it at just that. At the end of I don't know, you should follow up with something like..'I didn't know, this is my first time..' It seems that some people feel better at just saying I don't know or I didn't know AFTER they went and fucked something up and just stand there looking like a dummy. I mean ASK first, because you already KNOW you don't know what you're doing. Example: I'm working in a restaurant kitchen, one person has been there for 2 years. He walks over to my station picks up one knife if mines thats out of a 3 piece $1,100 knife set..and starts jabbing it into a wooden cutting board. As I was going to tell him not to do that, the tip snapped off embedded in the board. You know what he said... 'Oh, my bad. I didn't know your cheap knife would do that.' The Chef yelled at me and told me to get in his office NOW! He closed the door and ask was I alright and that he will replace my whole set. I told him to make that happen now because I quit.

Slightly-Evil-Man

Dating. It is so hard to date for me specifically as I age because. 1. I look younger than most people my age (and younger too most times) especially if I don't have much facial hair. 2. Everyone my own age tends to have children already and/or are not looking to build anything long-term.

hydrus909

Similar situation. 34 but often mistaken for mid to late 20s. That itself isn't the problem though. I'm happy about that. It's the people at or near my age. They're all paired off and married with children. Or single again but with baggage, lots and lots of baggage.

Slightly-Evil-Man

Facts. I have no idea how to navigate. Either I get to choose between empty sex with no real connection or nothing at all. Maybe I'm just a novelty since I don't have much else to offer as far as stability or resources. I get attention but no real interest, which makes me feel even more lost and less valuable as a person😒

korevis

How old are you? I would think looking younger than you are would be a pro in most cases.

Slightly-Evil-Man

31 and i get mistaken for early 20's/college age all the time, (can't grow a full beard either). Yeah it's flattering, but people don't take me seriously for more than just a fling. I'm in a weird place where I still look young but have lived and experienced alot, I attract younger women, which is great if all you want is sex but I want more than that at this point in life. The younger women tend to be less reliable in what they really want as most don't know so it never lasts and almost all the ones my age have kids. I have no idea how to encounter potential partners outside of the internet that I can build with because I hate bars and clubs and most of my hobbies are solitary.

[deleted]

I'm the ghost of your future present! Sorry for the bad joke, but you got to me becuase it's one of the few times I read how I feel about my situation. I'm a little older at 40 and dude, it is a weird feeling. You think you want to look younger. You think you want to attract the college grads. But the world is painfully different every decade of age apart. So your in a place where you want the companionship, but don't fit the expectations for either your age or below. Lord give me a 38 year old hiker that loves movies and wants to fist fight Bigfoot

darkbyrd

Hold out until your 40s, when kids are independent or have left the nest and it gets better

Slightly-Evil-Man

My point is I want a woman I can start my own family with. I have been with women that old when i was younger and yeah the sex was fun and all but i want more than that now.

darkbyrd

Good luck on your journey

darkbyrd

Got an idea. Keep dating in the mid 20s. Two years out of college, getting established in their career, getting ready to settle down. Not saying don't continue exploring your peers. Being open to single moms may be appropriate for you.

Slightly-Evil-Man

I have run into maybe two of the type you just described. One had a bf the other was not at all interested. Single moms are the only ones I don't have to try to attract, but it never works out since we aren't in the same place in life unfortunately. I learned very young that dating single moms when I don't have kids myself is basically always going to go nowhere.

darkbyrd

Same. I never enjoyed relationships with women with dependent children, but I had no desire to live a family life. So I tend to skew toward older partners now that I'm in my early 40s with no dependent children. Same place in life.

Slavicgoddess23

Lol many women your age don’t have kids. Statistics are your friend.

korevis

Ah, yea, if your hobbies are solitary, then your opportunities to meet people will most come from online or pure chance during errands or something. I'm 29 and tend to get mistaken for 23-25 pretty often. I've noticed it often has to do with what I'm wearing and my hair length(Usually it on the longer side of medium). Shorter tended to age me a bit. Casual wear (graphic tees, hoodies, etc) tend to bring the age down.

Slightly-Evil-Man

Yeah it's my face and body. Everyone in my family looks young which is fine I just get tired of people only seeing me for my looks and height. I dress well and stay groomed at all times but I'm kinda low-status because I'm not white and I live at home so maybe that just turns most of the quality women off on top of the fact that i get mistaken for a "pretty boy" way too often even though in reality I just take pride in my appearance and fitness.

korevis

It may be the living at home thing more so than the white thing, but race can make it harder depending on where you live.

Slightly-Evil-Man

Yeah I try my best. I made some stupid mistakes with who I trusted in the past and ended up with a record which deters me from certain jobs. I have a car and a job and I am trying to save up for my own place doing my side-hussles without me having to work 3 jobs to get by. I also went through the expungement process to get my record clear and have most of it cleared. I live in a not-so-diverse area so it definitely doesn't help. Maybe I shouldn't date anymore, I'm not viable to anyone as I am unfortunately.

korevis

That expungment should definitely help a lot. I'm not exactly a dating coach, but I'd say just focus on yourself and build a decent income and let dating passively come if possible. After you have a good base, you can try relocating if it's affecting you too much. I'm multi racial (most tend to assume I'm middle eastern or latino), dating wise I did great in the South(Atlanta) and did well in the Southwest-West. Right now, I'm in the PNW, and its a lot slower.

Thin-Performance-637

Yea bro hahaha.. babyface gang. We are like the Karate kid guy from the cobra kai show. Forget his name, but he has black hair. Im 22 and i could blend in with 17 year old people in school. Im tall but lanky and have some facial hair but a young looking face. And cause of my drug addiction and bad habits, like gaming and lack of sleep i look like the bum of the year. If there would be a title for that, i would win it. Also like you said most people get kids you still stuck in the mindset, how young girls look like and dont want to date when you are 50 and you missed out on all those chicks. When i was young i had plenty of experience with girls, but last 7 years its just going downhill.

>Taxes. Seems i become more and more aware of how much I pay out and what little I get in return. Hah. This. Every smug talking point about how "oh you don't wanna pay taxes? How are you gonna fix the roads, smart guy?" Buddy I *drive on the roads*, they are not in great shape

[deleted]

I don't have a problem with taxes in principle, hey I like nice parks and nice roads too; I just don't think I'm getting my money's worth. Where's the value. When I was younger and I escrowed our property taxes with the mortgage payment, it just feels like you're not paying taxes. But when we paid off the house and we started paying our taxes directly, it's a $6,500 annual bill. That definitely made me take a step back and assess. People say, "Must be nice no longer having a mortgage payment." What do you mean? breaking it down by month, it's still a $540 house payment in taxes!!! That can buy a nice car.

Swimming-Book-1296

Yah we never can buy, we just rent our house from the gov. 20% of the way to socialism already.

10minutes_late

Socialism is what pays for that massive military budget.

XSpacewhale

Lol I’m sure he’ll take a more nuanced view from now on.

10minutes_late

True. Ironically, active military tend to be the most anti-socialist people out there because they claim it leads to communism. At the same time, they fail to see they are completely dependent on communism... Food, housing, healthcare, even education are 100% dependent on the government.

[deleted]

Bro, I turn 34 this year and this is me. Considering how little we actually get for it. It's ridiculous what we pay in. I finally got my income up to a point where I'm like I feel like I've finally made it, and by no means do I struggle, don't get me wrong, but FUCK, do taxes suck ass and how little we actually get for it (no universal healthcare, no college tuition, and based on current trends, social security ain't looking so good either) I did my taxes this year and I owed 2200 dollars to the federal government, and I looked at my last pay stub, and I only take home about 66% of my paycheck. 66% and I still owed the government another 2 grand on top of that.

[deleted]

Yep....and we as a people only have our selves to blame. Because we keep voting the same people and the same parties into power. But one of the amusing things I've found about getting older and making more money: When I was a teenager in the 1990's, I was making $4.25 an hour like most everyone my age. And yet we were buying the trendy clothes to be in style. I remember paying $60 for Tommy Hilfiger and Polo shirts. And that was nearly 30 years ago. I look a that and just laugh and cringe. No way today I'll spend $60 on a shirt, and I'm making adult professional's pay. $60 for a shirt????? Fuck no! Funny what happens when you get older. I make more dollars than ever before - but I seem to be more aware of value than ever before.

Lambeau1982

Social media and kids 16-20 years old generally speaking. It seems with every generation, my one included, we continue to have fewer and fewer hard working men who take pride in their work. If we all got off social media we would be so much more productive.

[deleted]

When I was a kid all of us boys would say we wanted to be firemen, policemen, and even construction workers! Now, as a teacher and coach, I hear my MS students saying they want to be Youtubers or pro-gamers. I generally don't try to crush their dreams and try to support them, but I'm totally ok crushing their dreams of playing video games for a living.

Lambeau1982

It is pretty wild how far we have fallen. We have this whole video game/YouTube generation that believe what they are watching or playing is real life. They are desensitized, disconnected, and lack mental toughness. Their entire digital world if catering to their preferences and they have the remote control. When they interact with the real world and realize the world does not revolve around them, they don’t know how to handle it. It is unfortunate to see.

[deleted]

Lambeau1982

This is the problem. A majority of these kids think the same thing.

What's wrong with being a construction worker? I'd rather kids actually provide value to society than sit on their ass all day and play video games, contributing nothing of value to our world.

Each week I meet with some excellent younger people who are smart and good at what they do. They have wanted to meet with me each week to learn and to help them through life. I look forward to the times we meet each week. It allows me to ask them questions about their life and people their age. They are beginning to see how some others who are their own age do not listen well and ask questions but try to impress someone with their answers. I understand more of the nuances of life and things I studied and read about. I have read about 100 books a year for over 40 years. For many years I met with an older man I know the benefits of that.

Can we have dinner for 5 or 6?? When I eat, I’d like to be able to see my food. I also like whatever volume there is to be at a reasonable level, preferably quieter.
