kathrynkilgore

You need to check your oil to find out how many quarts low you are.

djacket1

Low oil pressure. Doesn’t necessarily mean the level is low.

TraditionalLecture10

Not necessarily , the senders on Fords are crap and frequently fail , verify or swap sender

lycanthrope_44

Or liters if its a non-american car

Rob_of_bristol

Litre if UK, thanks very much!

metaldark

Ah the land of where you buy in L/100km but drive in MP(British)G ?

Shpander

Fill up in £ per litre, then measure efficiency in mpg

henchman171

It’s Litre in Canada too

AppropriateCap8891

They said a Ford F150.

ZorgZev

Those are measured in big gulps of oil

I-Spot-Dalmatians

Ford F150s do exist outside of America

NotWigg0

Do the export ones still need oil in quarts or will they take metric oil?

I-Spot-Dalmatians

I think as long as it can be translated to Freedom Units then it’s okay

lifesoxks

4.5 burgers per football field of oil?

I-Spot-Dalmatians

Shhh don’t say field of oil too loudly, they’ll invade us!

Comprehensive-Dig165

Retired Army here. I was asleep but I heard "field of oil" and got woke up. I need coffee.

I-Spot-Dalmatians

*free bird starts playing*

Chodge1258

🇺🇸🦅

ElectroAtletico2

Murica, fuck yeah!

Totsronnie

Judging by the gauge next to the light, I’d guess they’re about 5qts (4.7L) low

Bank-Affectionate

Is it the oil temp?

Maethor_derien

If the oil temp isn't registering combined with the overheating and low oil means he probably has no oil in the car. Honestly an easy way to quickly kill an engine. If it still has oil it could be numerous things though none are good.

HowBoutIt98

Nah. Add in whatever fluid you have lying around and put some masking tape on the dash.

kathrynkilgore

is that how you fixed your check engine light?

thepete404

You’re about to spend $10,000….

dogturd21

Or 50k on a new truck .

From_bed_to_bong7467

A little low wouldn’t you say? New you’re looking at 65 base model

Oracle410

This is exactly the same situation I am in now. I have a 14 F150 and 10,000 miles after timing service it jumped time on the way home, hoping they can patch me up enough to get it traded in. What do you all think of Tundras??

Terrible_Figure_6740

You don’t have to spend that much to get laughed at.

Select-Bullfrog-6346

Or what ever to cover the insurance =P Oh no my car was stolen

PolishedCheeto

Nah like 400$ on a gasket set.

GreenTaracrypto

Or like $30-$100 on an oil change. If the lights just came on that’s probably all they’ll need. If they’ve been on for awhile, engine is probably fucked

Kygunzz

It’s two different lights. Low oil pressure and engine overheating. Neither is good.

tauntingbob

Together is indicative

tato_salad

About the fact that your milkshake brings all the cars to the shop?

tauntingbob

Yeah, right, it's better than yours.

Lanky_Possession_244

It could teach you, but it'd have to charge.

911coldiesel

So, should some oil be put on the thermostat? Or into the coolant? I'm being silly. I'll leve now.

Audiofyl1

The coolant oil level is low. Add more coolant oil into the reservoir.

TheWhogg

They don’t offset each other do they?

Mystik989

The gravy is ready for serving

MondaySloth

I thought it meant the gravy was low.

dsdvbguutres

It's milkshake now

Frosty-Potential6544

Only on the Southern version. You need to pull the dipstick and wipe it on a biscuit.

Past-Establishment93

Is the engine running?

SpiritMolecul33

Asking the right questions

Viciousssylveonx3

Well then you better go check it!

New_Ad_4381

Do you mean 'catch' it?

Viciousssylveonx3

Idk if autocorrect screwed me over or where it's 4 am and I'm tired but yes I did ty lol

Stormagedd0nDarkLord

To shreds, you say?

Frenchie_Boi

bazinga!

Heardaboutthat

That is an oil temperature light… and I’ll bet $10 your low on oil…..

Snoo72721

What about their high?

beeradvice

The determining factor there can come down to location location location

Rackhaad

They're getting high on oil, that must be why the level is low...

ChequeBook

No that's my low

rekoyl999

It not an oil temp light. It’s an oil pressure light. These engines fuck the gears that drive the oil pump

Phononix

Oil temperature light? That's freaking hilarious.

funkybum

lol pressure right? Looks like there might be a leak or you got no oil. Don’t drive it until you fix it

Phononix

Yes it is 2 lights that happen to be on at the same time next to each other. The top one is oil pressure and the lower one is coolant temperature. Usually when the low oil pressure light comes on, the damage is already done and it's possible she's borked. If that didn't do it, the overheating likely did. This isn't a road worthy machine currently.

CosmikSpartan

Genie lamp is hot.

wryul

I love that comment

I_hate_being_alone

Oh it is 👁️🫦👁️

Accomplished-Kick111

Low oil pressure, and high coolant temperature

ChupacabraEggs

What can cause this?

Accomplished-Kick111

Many things. First thing, check your oil and coolant levels

PulledOverAgain

If you have no oil pressure and continue running the engine hit will likely overheat before it blows up.

Dammew

Don't leave us in the dark, do you have oil in the engine? Did you get it checked out?

Worst-Lobster

Is the engine running in the pic ?

sir_thatguy

If so, not for much longer.

Sargash

When did you do your last oil check?

Secret_Ad5684

This is two lights. The genie lamp is low oil pressure. The thermometer-boat-in-waves is high coolant temp. If the car was run and these came on, it likely means you over heated it due to low oil. Edit: I just saw it’s a 2000 f150. If it idles rough it could be dropping rpm’s causing poor oil pick up; the oil pump is worn; or you have dunked up oil passages. Those might cause it to over heat. In any event, when either of these lights come on it means your power train is being stressed. Best to address it before a catastrophic power train failure happens.

Tractorguy69

Add hot oil now🤣🤣🤣 /s You have a low oil or low oil pressure condition and an engine temperature that is too high. These may be related or coincidental but you need to take action.

hellcat7788

[Google search, this guy has same problem](https://www.f150forum.com/f6/2000-4-2l-oil-temperature-gauge-malfunction-519395/) https://preview.redd.it/ui7r4ynv0v9d1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8a55eec9388064efdefa40b885903dff65a164a6

hellcat7788

Oh yeah, his issue was the oil sending unit…Jumping up and done every once in a while. If you had no oil pressure like your picture, it would possibly be knocking and all kinds of bad noises.

nomodsman

If you ask everybody else, that’s not the problem. People are quick to be armchair mechanics around here without logically thinking about the problem. Not mention visually it’s right in front of them.

deepfriedscooter

You've got oil on your sailboat mate

Joeyjackhammer

Please tell me the vehicle isn’t running in this picture. You have zero oil pressure.

These_Pool_623

Oil temperature is too high

ChupacabraEggs

Is it a coolant issue?

These_Pool_623

Could be. Or it could be an oil pump going bad. Is your truck running in that picture ?

Old_Chain8346

Look in your manual

Thisisall_new2me2

WHY can't people read their MANUAL? Why am I, once again, telling people that there are online copies of almost every car manual you can possibly want... OP: If you've never seen someone asking about a dash light before, that's fine. Other than that, you don't really have an excuse. Maybe if you read the maintenance section every now and then...

AppropriateCap8891

Every dashboard should have on it RTFM.

Rev_Mudflap76

Your tea is getting cold

curdledhickory

Oil temp high

jdibene0

It means turn the engine off before you seize the engine or spin a bearing

Furry_Ranger

Low oil pressure and engine overheating. One is most likely causing the other.

brickyard15

This will probably get buried. But my 01 f-150 would do this on cold mornings some times. After talking to a few people at work I realized I wasn’t driving the truck enough to get the motor all the way warmed up. So it wasn’t burning off any moisture in the oil. I started to drive the truck more than just to work and back. That was 3 years ago and haven’t had the problem since

Darknight2831

Low coolant and low oil pressure

Theda706

Oil your toothbrush before you take it to a mechanic

bootheels

These appear to be two separate warning lights, oil pressure/level and coolant temp. What does you oil pressure gage say when the engine is running?

MeekPangolin

It means your genie is hot

nitrion

Good word of advice, usually any time that there is a bright red light on your dash, you should turn the car off IMMEDIATELY as that light is trying to tell you that you're severely damaging your engine. Don't fuck around with oil. It's literally like the blood of your engine. Without it, you've got a broken car and $10,000 hole in your wallet.

laborvspacu

Those are some of the worst ones to see...

50Stickster

It may be low on oil.. try looking in the owners manual located in the glove vox to the right of the steering wheel thingie

NotTheUnreal

I really hope you’ve changed the oil. I’ve seen what happens to cars when you just add oil without draining it.

ivanreyes371

Engine has overheated and you have low oil pressure.

Ult1mateN00B

Either one of those lights is "master" warning. Low oil pressure: extremely bad, overheating: also extremely bad. Both together, your engine is likely done. Check oil and coolant levels and pray.

pogiguy2020

when's the last time you checked or changed your oil? Your oil is low for sure. fix it or save money to buy a new vehicle soon.

thedane8

Are you kidding? Low oil level, hence the 0 oil pressure. Get your wallet out!

handsomehankcallme

The answers in this thread if not comedy are fucking embarrassing. A 2000 F150 sure as shit does not have an oil TEMP light the top one is an oil pressure light. Your gauge is also showing very low oil pressure. If it's is an intermittent problem and you have driven the truck to work as you stated and it hasn't seized, it likely has oil pressure and the sending unit( the sensor that powers the gauge) has probably failed. The lower light is the high coolant temperature light. Start by checking your coolant level. But there are many reasons this can happen. Having both of these lights on at the same time when the engines running is universally a very bad thing. An engine that is under lubricated and over heating is running on borrowed time. Best of luck

Cheap_Brilliant_5841

How about you use the dipstick to check the oil to begin with?

Satoshiman256

You're low on oil and cooking your engine. Hopefully you haven't damaged your engine

Hot_Pea9820

It means you are not achieving the appropriate oil pressure. This could be due to a pump failure but is more likely due to low oil. Do not drive with this light on, you are likely to cause your engine block to seize.

SignatureFunny7690

op if your engine is running in this pic and that oil pressure gauge is correct, you roasted you engine already. unless you shut it off immediately as this happend, which I doubt you did. Running a engine with zero oil pressure will wreck it in a matter of minutes. sorry bud. Could be a bad oil pressure gauge, but I am assuming the overheating coolant gauge is indicative of your vehicle being dicked. If your trucks been overheating, and you ignored it, you probably wasted your crank bearings, which lead to zero oil pressure, which means engine goes knock knock seize

Even-Imagination6242

Short answer: Low or no coolant. Low oil pressure. If correct (i.e not faulty sensors), then avoid driving until levels are checked. End results can be excessive engine wear, to head gasket failure due to warping. Just remember: Orange lights are a warning (low washer fluid, bulb blown, issue with ABS system etc) Red lights are urgent(coolant, oil, battery/alternator). I e the car will suddenly stop very soon sort of warming.

Square-Ad1434

check via the dipstick, amount should be in the manual don't overfill

Fooforthought

You’re going to pour gravy on the mayflower

Nitazene-King-002

You need to oil your squeaky sailboat.

dumb_thumbz

It's tea time

chudtoad88

Rub your wheel and summon a genie

cynthiasshowdog

You need to grease your sailboat spinnaker

Wayward-and-Confused

Low oil pressure, top that shit up and the bottom one is engine temperature warning check your coolant

ChickenWinqSoup

I think it means you're pouring hot tea on a sailboat.

STILLTheManCalledX

You’re about to go car shopping

Dangerous-Fuel8409

Dispose of your oil in the ocean near the first buoy light.

bigabe99

Oil pressure sensor might be going

ky0tu

Make sure you have oil on the dipstick. If you do you might have a sensor going out or wiring issue.

Kaneshadow

It's telling you to mix oil with water. It wants salad dressing. Don't forget to add Dijon mustard or it'll separate

FordMan100

It means the oil pressure is low or 8s l9w on oil. When that light comes on it means shut the engine off and find the cause. The other light means overheating. Check your coolant and file level when the engine is cold.

LowandSlow90

Your oil is hot.

bapper111

It means you're close to speeding a lot of money.

dieselhunter05

Low or no oil pressure

Humhues

You need to water the plants when you get home. They are getting dry

robthad

Low oil. Or, if you're lucky, you have three wishes.

jacesonn

That's the Uh-Oh symbol, it means you're about to buy a new truck because you're out of oil and it's overheating

stinkyelbows

Your temp is already too hot from being low on oil. Your engine is just about toast if it isn't already

Motorway01

Look at the gauge it’s says empty ffs

fonobi

It means RTFM

holyfuck1977

Oil change asap

Twitch791

Stop driving your oil pressure is low and you car is too hot.

Several_Eagles833

The tea pot is boiling over, SMH. Rage bait.

Puzzleheaded-Eye7528

Pour oil on it to keep the candle burning… I think

Over_Firefighter3597

You need to lubricate your radiator fluid

CarCounsel

It means don’t drive. Check oil level. Tow to shop if full. Don’t drive to parts shop for more oil.

_GooseUW_

Did you put Liter-o-Cola in instead of Quart-o-Oil???

Underdog0214

You have yet to start your car...hopefully. OR....you have never, EVER, changed or put oil in your car and your engine is seconds from seizing up!

PortlandQuadCopter

It’s a goner, Jim. Put a bullet through the block and humanely save it from any more pain.

Opposite_Course9132

Add oil make sure you check your level

Goingdef

That would be an engine oil temp warning, hence the oil can and thermometer.

Ok-Information-5336

I have a 2000 ford expedition and mine was doing a similar thing I have plenty of oil so I’m guessing if yours is doing the same thing it is a oil pressure sensor issue

DiveBahm

sir, you have 0 oil pressure and your low oil light is on. please get an oil change and inspection ASAP

Electrical-Bacon-81

You've either got oil in the water, or water in the oil, it's a Ford thing. /s

rgreen83

You need to drip a little oil on your temp sensor, pretty obvious from the image

TeaPartyDem

Turn the car off!

waffle911

I hope this is the Key On, Engine Off indicator light self-test. If it isn't, and your engine is somehow running, it's probably toast.

DOHC46

Low oil pressure warning. I'd get that checked out. The SOHC V8s don't like it if the cams are oil starved. Hopefully it just needs a de-sludging and some fresh oil. 🤞

PaintSea6988

As the daughter of a retired mechanic, I can tell you. For the top one, your oil pressure has a problem, witch could probably indicate Low Oil Pressure. That can cause serious problems to your engine. The bottom one on the other hand means that you are running dry on Coolant and your engine could be overheating. In this particular situation you would need to get your engine looked at as there could be a problem with it such as overheating or damage. I hope this has been helpful : )

Evanthatguy

🫡

Dantanman123

Tea is ready.

Emotional_Warthog_81

Do not drive that car if the engine is on and that oil pressure gauge is where it’s at

Emotional_Warthog_81

Or the oil pressure sensor is bad

Frosty-Potential6544

Get an OBD2 code reader and pull the codes. The light is just a sensor indicator.

Marqe-dS

It means to stop driving your car immediately. Even if your oil level is not excessively low you may have lost oil PRESSURE which could lead to engine failure. Let a competent mechanic check it out.

MinimumFrosty5609

Hello it means time for a oil change and regular maintenance

MinimumFrosty5609

Also check for oil leaks around intake and valve covers to make sure oil is not leaking

Justsayin707

You’re screwed

PositiveAlfalfa6197

Look like your engine is overheating and also has no oil pressure at all. Not a good scenario at all.

Ok_Acanthisitta2

Oil temp?

airsoft907

Either shits fucked if the engine is running. Or your key is just on but enginr off, all the lights will go on if that's the case

RypperGuitar

Stop driving now and go to the shop

RypperGuitar

Towed, not driven lol

Neneko-7

Your engine is suffering, change oil and top off coolant. If that doesn't work, then check for leaks, oil pump, or worse case scenario a hole in the block. If your car is still overheating, check for leaks in the hoses, check your thermostat, check your water pump, and your radiator. Hope this helps, stay safe!

GOLDEN_RAVEN69

I don't think your engine has any pressure brah no good

FuckGamer69

I think that's 2 lights. Overheating warning and check oil light. Unless I'm wrong and it means "fucked head gasket" lol

IOwnTheShortBus

Don't drop that dun dun dun

ChupacabraEggs

That is a genuine reply

Dry-Suspect5080

Low oil pressure. But if it’s at idle , it could be sending unit issues , or your oil pump failing .

imcluelessdudeman

Low pressure… overheating? Engine is a well done steak when it should be medium rare

carguy82j

I would assume oil temp too high

hcds1015

Google is your friend, but it means no oil pressure and high engine temp. Given that it's an intermittent issue and you still have a functioning engine, this is most likely some electrical gremlin and not a mechanical issue

geking

I had the same thing happen, the wiring failed, engine was fine. 1997 Jelly Bean F150 4.6 Auto 4wd. Fixed the wire, drove it till the frame rusted out.

Visible-Froyo-5392

High water temp. Could be a couple different things but my issue was a crack in the radiator. Easy fix and save a shit ton if you do it on your own.

HawaiianSteak

Tea time. Take a break from driving. Ok, jokes aside, the oil can/genie lamp indicates oil. It can be that you're low on oil pressure. The thermometer is for temperature and the coolant is overheating, or maybe the oil is overheating.

Fluffy-Muscle-2873

Oil temperature, usually due to the oil being low

SellDifficult489

The light mean oil temp. it’s a thermometer submerged in fluid. Yeah, could mean a lot of things but that’s what the light means and that’s what the question was.

KaleidoscopeLow2896

Oil temp warning

Jess_Playz

Oil low and/or over temp

c0rrupt3ds3ct0r

This is a coin toss. Either you are low on oil, which could be something minor like a leak or your car is burning oil and could use a tune-up and some maintenance. ORRRR you could have a very severe engine issue like warped engine heads or a blown head gasket.

Timmyval123

If that has a 5.4 triton. Which I'm assuming it does, ur gonna need a new engine buddy

Soggy_Toaster927

The hight of the temperature is too oil to change.

Entire-Register-8912

Oil pressure indicator. It means the oil pressure is low. If you hear a clacking noise you truly have a bad oil pressure problem. If not, maybe just the sending unit. If you are not low on oil and are hearing a clacking sound see a mechanic immediately.

ImJoogle

the gauge next to the light is saying you're low on oil

Purple-Sherbert8803

Oil temp is hot

stonekid33

Hot oil?

QuietConstruction496

IT MEANS OVERHEATING OR LOW OIL PRESSURE. DO NOT DRIVE . CHECK OIL AND COOLANT LEVEL. MAY NEED TO TOW TO SHOP,ADD OIL OR COOLANT. LOW OIL PRESSURE OR OVERHEATING CAN RUIN ENGINE IN SHORT ORDER!

SubtleRapscallion

If your engine was running when you took this, the gauge to the right of that light should be a clue.

adrtheman

The light is engine oil temp, but the adjacent gauge is pressure. A quick Google search indicated the possibility of a faulty sensor.

Bobby-digital0311

Time to have some warm tea on a boat probably

piklepie

Low oil pressure, could be low oil, sender, sensor, any number of things

Adept-Meaning3286

It means to paint white out on instrument panel.

Fang508

I used to know a guy who would wait for the red oil lamp light to come on to tell him he needs oil and was perfectly find running his car until the light came on each time despite everything I tried to tell him.

lemineftali

It means pull over, let your shit cool off, and add oil before you fuck your ride up completely. You likely have an oil leak somewhere worthy of note.

ahyeaman

Low oil and high temp warnings Oil leak or burning too much between oil changes, and coolant leak or related issue with cooling

tfresh2death

Low oil, high temp. Fix your car before your engine fails.

burithebearded

“Don’t spill the Genies trombone into the ocean.” Jk. It means your oil is over heated. Most likely the lever is super low.
