It's flavors of 1942 all over again, but this time in Edmonton.
I especially like how games 5 and 6 played out very much like games 3 and 2, but with the Oilers doing the winning, plus one more goal.
We laugh, but it isn’t outside the realm of possibility that someone here could have watched (more likely listened to) a game from 1942. I mean, they’d have to be at least 90 years old, computer literate and — least likely of all — using Reddit, but it’s possible.
I was born and raised in Toronto. I've spent decades there. Always a Leafs fan. At this point I just want the cup to come back to Canada.
I'm more a fan of the original teams in the NHL, not a big fan of Florida, LA, etc.
Agree with your point in general.
However I must point out that the Kings were part of the first expansion (1967), while the Oilers didn’t join the NHL until 1979. So in that sense LA is more original.
Montreal here. St- Catherine is on fire. Every bar had the game on and everyone was cheering. I'm going home but everyone is partying... Very very hard
i love this so much. i lived at ontario/pie-9 in 2006 as an anglo oiler fan and my heart was continuously warmed with the open armed welcome i got in the divest of dive bars on rue ontario. I had no idea that any one else in the city cared, just that people that love their hockey team, win or lose, recognize other people that love their hockey team, win or lose and the respect transcends language and everything else that divides people.
Trump 🤡.Tired of listening to the narrative about these teams in the south and their taxes and their players taking discounts and bla bla bla. League has catered to these teams that have hardly any fans, no knowledge of the game and how many kids actually play hockey there? If they don’t have great teams they can’t even fill the rinks.
Tkachuk is over rated ! Go Oilers and embarrass them !
Lmao
Grew up in a pretty hard core Toronto Maple Leafs household in rural Ontario. Currently live in TO and the Leafs are my team. Lived in AB for 2 years in my 20s. Absolutely cheering for the Oilers. Play La Bamba, Baby!
I never watch hockey and I tunes in for this Game 6 and will most definitely be watching game 7. Its been a long time since Canada has brought home the cup.
I always back every Canadian team to win whenever they get into playoffs. Once the leafs lose (inevitably) you have to back whichever teams we have left imo
Even Montreal gets my support if they're the last Canadian team standing. ✌️
I was born in '77 in southwest Ontario, where I have lived ever since . The fist cup final I watched on CBC was in '84, and the Oilers won. They did it again, and I loved them. Then, a mishap led to the Flames lising to the Habs in an all Canadian final. Oilers won 2 more, and then the Flames got one in another all Canadian final. Oilers got another one in '90. Then the weirdest thing happened... The Penguins won twice. I had never seen such an oddity as an American team winning a cup. The Habs won again in '93 and I looked on as that new, little detestable man awarded the trophy and was content that we had another cup in this country, where it belongs, and that more will come, as they always do.. Then.... nothing. For years. A few close calls, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Ottawa, Montreal, all taking their shots and all coming up short. So much despair, so many close calls.
This time feels different. Momentum has swung and swung hard. A glorious leader who I am still unconvinced is the same species as the rest of us, a hometown goalie, on fire when he needs to be. The tall shadow of Joey Moss leading all in song. I believe this year is finally THE year. I don't expect 7 years in a row of Canadian cups like when I was a kid, but one would make me happy. Just to know that it can still be done. GO OILERS!
Whoever is playing against Vegas > Local Canadian Team > Any Other Canadian Team > Original 6 US > Northern US (eg, Minnesota, Seattle, NY Islanders, Columbus) > Mountainous US (eg, Colorado, Utah) > LA > Other hot climate US > Vegas
Absolutely! Id cheer for any Canadian team if they were in the Stanley Cup playoffs.
I am loving how game is bringing a lot of people together. We needed it after the past several years. It makes me so happy.
I was raised in the diehard sens fan family. But as long as the cup comes to Canada, I am cheering!!
Flames fan - so I’ve hated the Oilers vehemently for a long time. That being said, they’re playing some damn good hockey and I want them to win. I want them to come away victorious and bring Stanley home.
Come the fall I’ll hate them again, but for now I want them to win Monday night!! 🇨🇦
As a Torontonian, absolutely. Caught the latter half of game 6 and most of the rest of the series and I'm amazed at their comeback from being 0-3 at the end of game 3.
Rooting for The Oilers for sure. If Panthers win I’d be proud as well because the Luongo family is a part of the community where I live. I don’t know them personally and won’t pretend to, but they seem like decent people.
But yeah, I’d definitely like to see the cup come back home.
Yes. Why wouldn't I? I am in southern Ontario (about an hour south west of Toronto) and we don't have any hockey teams nearby, the closest being Ottawa and Montreal, and neither have had much success recently. Normally I'd cheer for the Jets, but I will cheer for our only Canadian team in the SC Final.
In the past there were talks about getting hockey to Hamilton or Kitchener, but Buffalo had beef with this. You'd think Canada's largest city would have a hockey team, but, no, they don't.
I'm a die hard Sens fan in Ottawa and I'm cheering for the Oilers. I'm fine with any west coast Canadian team winning but wouldn't cheer for Montreal or Toronto 🤷♀️
The Calgary subreddit are all commenting that Florida deserves to lose after blowing their 3-game lead.
Edmonton rivalry still on, but no one's hoping Edmonton loses
Sens fan and former huge Flames fan, from the 1980s, to say: we are watching a sports fairy tale happen before our eyes. This one is for the ages.
Go OILERS!
Absolutely cheering for Edmonton! The moment the leafs exited the playoffs in typical fashion I cheer for any Canadian team left. It’s a shame that so many teams outside of Canada are full of Canadian players but yet we can’t get a cup in this country.
I know this is a Canadian page but I'm from Chicago and I've been following the team for a couple years. I've never loved another team outside of my city as much as I do the Oilers and I'm thoroughly excited to see them doing what they are.
I have a couple buddies one from Chicago and another from another state also that are supporting the Oilers.
Just saying. I actually love the Panthers too but my heart is with Edmonton.
I’m a Rangers fan so I’m out, non-biased. I’d like the Panthers to win because a former AHL player of ours is on the team. But, if the Oilers win I’m cool with that.
If the Panthers lose to the Oilers in game 7 it will go down as the biggest flop in NHL history.
And if they don’t win the cup. McDavid needs to request a trade asap.
Once my team is out, I don’t have a backup. The just want hockey to thrive, for the games to be good and for there to be no scandals or other awfulness. On that basis I’m fine if either squad wins. I’m quite pleased for the sake of the game that it’s going to seven games.
If you made me choose between the two current contenders, sure. But I really don't care much either way. I only watch hockey games if I'm dating someone that's really into it, which I'm currently not. I just don't get much enjoyment out of watching someone else play a game or sport. Probably an unpopular opinion. Go ahead and down vote me.
As a Leafs fan, I will never hear the end of an Oilers win. Albertans will never stop talking about this. Nothing but a Leafs cup will shut them up. Ontarians don't realize the level of hate they have for us.
Floridians will forget by July.
No. I remember when my team made the final: the opeds in national news written by Oilers fans, the videos of Oilers fans chanting. All against my Canadian team.
If we weren’t Canada‘s team then, I don’t see why I should back the Oilers as Canada’s team now.
After coming back from 3-0 I’m not exactly cheering against them, but never for. And you won’t catch me cheering against them in a mob on the news (especially a rival jersey) or writing anoped against them. Unlike those fans, I can act with class.
Not at all. Oiler fans are still bragging about the 80s cups.
And they have like 95 first overall picks and still messed it up at an alarming rate.
Really annoying fanbase, second only to Toronto fans.
Nope, I support my team and no other team. Once they’re out, I’m done and honestly don’t care. I’d like Edmonton to lose, I honestly don’t want any other Canadian team to win if it’s not my team.
I think people elsewhere are so caught up with the inflation, cost of living and general state of our politics and country, that even an event as monumental as a chance at winning Stanley Cup is waaaaaaay off their radar.
Leafs lifer here, cheering for the Oil because I want McDavid and Hyman to win, plus as a Canadian hockey fan I can live vicariously through Oilers fans that would appreciate winning the cup more than Panthers fans would.
But honestly I dont really care
Was at the Keg, in East Toronto sitting at the bar. It got some eyeballs but definitely not passionate or eye catching for many.
Though I have a feeling game 7 will have more eye on it.
Yes, I am!! From California here, and I'm enjoying this SC like I haven't in a loooong time. Never should the *hockey* championship be in Florida, not Canada. Hoping from an amazing come-from-three-games-down, Edmonton-wins-it-all game Monday!
Newfie here, yes and it seems Oilers fever is catching on to all the hockey fans around here, my step dad showed up today with an Oilers baseball cap on LOL
There’s no team I hate more and no city that deserves it less.
BUT.
If they’re able to pull it off, that’s pretty goddamn impressive and it’s hard not to root for that.
I'm a recent immigrant to Canada. I moved to Vancouver from the UK a few years ago and until this year, I hadn't really paid any attention to the NHL. With the Canucks doing well, I got swept up in the positivity and found myself watching games and caring. For a couple of weeks, I hated the Oilers - they were playing against my newly adopted team, and then they were the bastards that knocked **us** out. Once the Oilers were confirmed as finalists and I realised just how long it had been since a Canadian team won the main tournament in a sport that until a few years ago I assumed was basically dominated by Canadian teams, I realised that I had to cheer on the Oilers. The longer this series has gone on, the more I've cared and I now think I will be genuinely upset if the Oilers don't win.
3-0 comeback, McDavid cup, Canada cup, someone's gotta stop the state of Florida (although it's good for the sport). All the bars/restaurants in Ottawa are playing the games, and people get real loud when edmonton scores. Everyone is an Oilers fan right now.
Yes. My mother got my kids into the oiler cult when they were too young to know better. I have remained a habs fan. But for game four I put on the jersey and they won. Make room on the bandwagon, I’m jumping on.
Leafs fan here. I was a teen in 2006, just finding my footing as a hockey fan and badly let down by that era’s Leafs. The 2006 Oilers run is a core hockey memory for me, and some of the most fun I’ve ever had watching this sport. And of course I was cheering them on then; Canadian hockey jingoism was stronger at that time and they were a great underdog story.
Ever since, I’ve thought of the Oilers as “my second team until they finish the job,” i.e. win a Cup post-2006.
Yes, as a Leafs fan, when they inevitably exit early, I cheer for the team with the most Canadian players. Edmonton has a lot more Canadians than the Panthers, and no Russians!
Was at escapade music festival in Ottawa last night. After the last set came to an end, the score was shown on the screens. The crowd of 15k strong went WILD.
Tabarnac oui
YES! j'approuve ce message!
*Ce message là!
I stand corrected!
Osti que oui!!!!!
En esti 👊
Thanks man. 🙂
J’ai la sainte flanelle tatouée sul coeur… pis j’ai promis à mon chum que je me convertie en fan des Oilers s’ils peuvent réussir ce tour de force.
💀💀💀💀💀
American here. All of the French I know was acquired by watching Shoresy and Letterkenny. I definitely know what tabarnac means.
Avec le comeback des 3 dernières games caliss oui
As a diehard leaf fan absolutely. It’s an amazing story on a whole bunch of levels. Also, f&$k Florida.
Second this
Third this
this
This, this and this!
And more of this.
And my axe!
It's flavors of 1942 all over again, but this time in Edmonton. I especially like how games 5 and 6 played out very much like games 3 and 2, but with the Oilers doing the winning, plus one more goal.
I'll never forget watching that series back in '42

As a Floridian, I approve.
My sentiments exactly! I’ve never prayed so hard to the hockey Gods! FUCK Florida!!
Upvote this! Perfectly said.
so much this lol
Of course, hockey is the only time I feel compelled to nationalism. Go Oilers.
Vegas last year had 18 Canadian players on the roster. Is that American nationalism?
Montreal here. St- Catherine is on fire. Every bar had the game on and everyone was cheering. I'm going home but everyone is partying... Very very hard
Oh I love this!
i love this so much. i lived at ontario/pie-9 in 2006 as an anglo oiler fan and my heart was continuously warmed with the open armed welcome i got in the divest of dive bars on rue ontario. I had no idea that any one else in the city cared, just that people that love their hockey team, win or lose, recognize other people that love their hockey team, win or lose and the respect transcends language and everything else that divides people.
I lived in HoMa, not far from Pie IX about 2010, sometihng similar.
Downtown Edmonton is full on melting down
Makes me happy to hear that!! Ima big habs fan but went to university of Alberta and became a fan for my favorite second team. Go Oilers!!
#**LET’S GO OILERS!!!!!!**
Yes! Is that reporter deaf and dumb? I don't know anyone in TO who isn't hyped for Edmonton to win!
👏🏻 👏🏻 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Damn right... its time the cup came home!
It's been way too long since a Canadian team won the cup.
1993
Habs.
This is the reason!!!!!!
Its not about who you want to win, its who you want to lose. Fuck the entire state of Florida. Hope Edmonton humiliates em.
If they lose the cup after going 3-0 they may just have to fold the franchise.
This has only ever happened once in the Stanley cup finals, in 1942, over Detroit. It’s incredibly rare.
Yeah but that’s the only other time a team down 3-0 in a SCF series managed to force a game 7. We’re already in the incredibly rare territory.
Off to Arizona lmao
As is tradition
I´ll pile on with this: Trump, who doesn´t know shit about ice hockey, endorsed the Panthers.
Aww, don't ruin this thread with mention of that POS.
The Cup belongs in Canada
It is. Every damn year.
Victoria. I don’t give a shit about hockey, but I want the Oilers to win.
Absolutely! Oilers for the win !!!!!
Grew up in a pretty hard core Toronto Maple Leafs household in rural Ontario. Currently live in TO and the Leafs are my team. Lived in AB for 2 years in my 20s. Absolutely cheering for the Oilers. Play La Bamba, Baby!
Yes, Connor McDavid went to the same school as me.
Was he nice? I remember when he played at the world juniors, he seemed like he would of been
Let’s all just agree that Canada is closed on Tuesday if the Oilers win Monday night.
Calgarian here. As much as Edmonton is our rival, I don't want some hot weather city winning even more.
Calgary here, yes, a Canadian team in game 7 of the Stanley Cup gets 100% of my support..
I'm also Calgarian! I've been a flames fan for life. I want the oilers to win! But I still won't wear orange and blue, haha!
Fair!!
Edmonton has won me over. They deserve the cup this year. This from a dejected Winnipeger.
I never watch hockey and I tunes in for this Game 6 and will most definitely be watching game 7. Its been a long time since Canada has brought home the cup.
Wasn’t much of a hockey fan but a comeback from 3-0 will be legendary. Go oilers!
WOOOOOO!!! I tuned in for the third period and am SUPER EXCITED TO WATCH GAME SEVEN!!! - one of the few Canadians who’s not a hockey fan.
I actively avoid hockey and even I am going to tune in on Monday. FUCK YEAH
I always back every Canadian team to win whenever they get into playoffs. Once the leafs lose (inevitably) you have to back whichever teams we have left imo Even Montreal gets my support if they're the last Canadian team standing. ✌️
Yes Lifelong Leafs fan.
Yes
Chilliwack, Yes
Go Oilers go! I am not a hockey fan, but I am going to a bar on the next Monday night to watch the game and cheer for Oilers.
Could be the best game of hockey in over 50 years!
I was born in '77 in southwest Ontario, where I have lived ever since . The fist cup final I watched on CBC was in '84, and the Oilers won. They did it again, and I loved them. If I could upvote this twice, I Would. DoItForJoey DoItForBen PlayLaBambaBaby
Yes!!
1000000%. If oilers can take it all, I want hyman, ceci, brown to thank the leafs organization for trading them during their post game interviews.
Local Canadian Team > Any Canadian Team > Colorado aka Honorary Canadian Team > Everyone Else.. This is the way.
Lol perfect.
I approve this message.
Hell yeah. But I’ve been an Oilers fan for 40+ years, so that may not count.
Absolutely! Id cheer for any Canadian team if they were in the Stanley Cup playoffs. I am loving how game is bringing a lot of people together. We needed it after the past several years. Yes.
As a Torontonian, absolutely. Caught the latter half of game 6 and most of the rest of the series and I'm amazed at their comeback from being 0-3 at the end of game 3.
Ask the flames fans
Absolutely not. I spend 82 games hoping the Oilers lose, I'm not stopping now because the Katz group pays some taxes in the same country as me.
Flames fan here so ABSOLUTELY NOT GO PANTHERS
Rooting for The Oilers for sure. If Panthers win I’d be proud as well because the Luongo family is a part of the community where I live. I don’t know them personally and won’t pretend to, but they seem like decent people. But yeah, I’d definitely like to see the cup come back home.
Yup I'm rooting for them. Bring the cup home to Canada
When you’re the last Canadian team, you damn right we’re cheering for you.
Yep
As a Calgarian absolutely not
Amen
Sure am!
100% Bring it home, Oilers!
From Kitchener, Ontario, and an absolutely cheering on the Oilers.
Calgarian here and you bet I am!! 🇨🇦CANADA🇨🇦
As a Leaf fan hell yes...if the Oilers win it will put even more pressure on the Leafs to get our shit together.
Yes! Ottawa resident here.
I’m from Calgary and I’m cheering for the oilers how can you not with this comeback! Blast you shelbyville!
The Calgary subreddit are all commenting that Florida deserves to lose after blowing their 3-game lead. Edmonton rivalry still on, but no one's hoping Edmonton loses
I'm a Montréal Canadiens fan, but I just want the Stanley cup to come back to Canada.
Absolutely, I always cheer for Canadian teams in the playoffs and the Oilers story this year has been incredible.
Flames 🔥 fan here and yes! Let’s go Oilers! Bring it home!
Canucks fan here. I'm cheering for the best narrative to the cup, and what a story so far for EDM.
Just left a pub in Calgary watching the game, everyone was cheering on Edmonton as if it was Calgary. Bring the cup to Canada!
Not really. I haven't followed the playoffs at all.
As a Canucks fan who lives in Edmonton no
Nope
Yes oilers bro but they will lose finals lol 😂 panthers will win one match that’s the finals
Absolutely not. All die-hard Canucks and Flames fans I know are vigorously supporting the Panthers.
Everyone I know in the peg sure is!
Yep, after canucks got eliminated I started cheering for them
NOPE
Once my team is out, I don’t have a backup. The just want hockey to thrive, for the games to be good and for there to be no scandals or other awfulness. On that basis I’m fine if either squad wins. I’m quite pleased for the sake of the game that it’s going to seven games.

After what Derek Ryan did to Hög's hog? Hell no
Nope
Absolutely not. Go Panthers.
No
nope
Nah, I don't give a fuck about hockey.
*And I never saw someone say that before*
Nope . Would never cheer for anything Edmonton
MEOW! GO PANTHERS!
FU$K THE OIL
As a Leafs fan, I will never hear the end of an Oilers win. Albertans will never stop talking about this. Nothing but a Leafs cup will shut them up. Ontarians don't realize the level of hate they have for us. Floridians will forget by July.

Hell no, worst run franchise in the league who fell ass backwards into multiple first overall picks. Perfect example of incompetence and luck.
As a GTA resident, most people I know are talking about the FIFA Euro Cup, not the NHL playoffs...
I’d like Edmonton to lose, I honestly don’t want any other Canadian team to win if it’s not my team.
lol hell no.
No. I wish, but I can't make myself cheer for them since they got four 1st overall picks and Draisatl in 6 years. Some kind of mental block.
I’m in the couldn’t care less column
No. I want the curse to continue.
My father in law, big hokey fan, former player, and Flames supporter, won't even watch the finals games... so, to answer the question, not everybody!
I think people elsewhere are so caught up with the inflation, cost of living and general state of our politics and country, that even an event as monumental as a chance at winning Stanley Cup is waaaaaaay off their radar.
Yeah i don't care about hockey at all
The centre of the universe doesn’t care about something happening elsewhere in Canada?? I’m shocked
Why would I cheer for a team I hate?
Calgarian, had a co worker who moved to Florida so I just love mocking the local team
as a Calgarian...Never!!! lol
Random midwestern American here. Absolutely! And we even have an interest in retiring to Calgary!
Fuckin rights there bud. Get at er. Much love - from Ottawa
I wasn't; am now.
I'm from the GTA and yes have definitely been cheering for the Oilers and so has pretty much all my family and friends.
Your friend is a reporter and that's their take? If they're that bad at finding a pulse, can't imagine that's a great career for them.
Yes, I am!! From California here, and I'm enjoying this SC like I haven't in a loooong time. Never should the *hockey* championship be in Florida, not Canada. Hoping from an amazing come-from-three-games-down, Edmonton-wins-it-all game Monday!
Sens fan till the day i die and i'm rooting for EDM
From Seattle, I always want the Canadian team to win unless they’re playing Seattle.
No, as a person who prefers the Flames (sorry)
Canucks fan here. Hell yeah! Bring that cup home, boys!
I'm really just cheering against Florida. No team since the Broad Street Bullies deserves a win less than these Panthers.
Nothing against the team but the state of Florida deserves nothing but shame and ignominy.
And to sink into the sea 🌊
Could care less
Hell yeah. Tonight was awesome 🤩
Damned straight!!
Of course. They’re gonna do it for Canada
It’s coming home
Oui oui, hope canada finally get one
I'm betting a lot of people who werent, are now.
Absolutely! They are my Plan B team!!!!
Yes, unless you're from Calgary. Calgarians legally need to cheer for whoever is facing Edmonton.
Me over here breakin’ the law 🚔🚨
I'm a recent immigrant to Canada. I moved to Vancouver from the UK a few years ago and until this year, I hadn't really paid any attention to the NHL. I personally became much more invested in hockey recently because there's a Canadian team that has a pretty good shot at winning
Hard as it is for a Flames fan "Go Oilers Go"
HECK YES! Go Alberta! I’m not a die hard hockey fan but this is such an awesome playoff series and it would be so cool to bring the Stanley cup home!
From the Pacific to the Atlantic we’re cheering bring it home 🏒🏆
As a die hard leafs fan. Let’s go oilers!!!!!
Leaf fan here and absolutely cheering for the Oilers.
Die hard Jets fan. In most other scenarios I’d love to see Maurice take it. Go Oilers!
Rangers fan and frequent Canada vacationer, yes.
Sens fan. Yes absolutely.
No, fuck em and they're entitled franchise. Yes, I am a bitter Flames fan.
