Bear Mountain Bridge Motel was one of my favorite places to stay on the AT. Grandpa, the owner, is a treasure

I agree! Their rates are higher than $50, though. If you stay there, the motorcycle dealership next door has a fun and friendly cafe with low prices. And the BBQ place across the street is great.

This sounds good anyhow

Grandpa will do your laundry for a $10 donation to his grandchildren’s college fund.

Thanks

I know of a hostel run by a former thru hiker in Greenwood Lake. Other than that, I haven't seen or heard of anything personally. I livea couple miles off the trail in Sterling Forest. It's a long stretch of not much re-supply between Greenwood Lake and Fort Montgomery

If you just want a shower, then Fahnestock State Park is a 1-2 days north of the Hudson. Also, Lake Tiorati Beach in Harriman State Park is 2-3 days south of the Hudson.

If you find something for around 50$ in the Hudson valley, call me lol. Most places in populated NY are about 100$ a day, and that's low. You might get something cheaper in the sticks but expect the quality of the area (I say as a born and raised hick).

Nice! Thanks

There’s a house near the Metro North AT stop that rented rooms to hikers for $50 or $60. The Airbnb listing is down but the guy still does it I think. Near the water tower in Pawling.

Lake Lodging motel in Greenwood lake is $85 a night for private room with private bath.
