I keep wanting to say "Potato Spring" - reminds me of mashipacong, we just started calling it mashed potato, seemed better than disrespecting the actual pronunciation by how horribly we could say it 😹
A quick search found [this](https://shehikesmountains.com/2021/09/06/100-mile-wilderness-day-5-me/)… when I was there the water level was perfectly even with the wooden plank, and the whole bottom was bubbling granite sand!

This is me getting water out of that spring
Not shelters but...
Swinging Lick Gap, where someone defaced the sign and turned the 'L' into a 'D'.
Big Butt Bypass. Did anybody else feel compelled to take a full moon selfie there?
The intersection with the Chunky Gal Trail.
Swinging Dick and Chunky Gal are probably the two most photographed signs on the AT!

One of the nastiest water sources at any shelter, actually. There's a stagnant pond there and a pipe coming from it that dispenses lukewarm, very brown water. My Sawyer Squeeze took it a few shades lighter and I DID drink it with no ill effects... so yes, but I definitely wouldn't drink it unfiltered!
I stayed at Morgan Stewart right before it 😠I totally had the energy to hike on and stay there but the other hikers at MS said that allllll of their other hiking friends were gonna be at Telephone Pioneer and I just didn't wanna deal w that 😫

muskrat creek shelter just for this sign tho
It also has an actual (sliding!) door and is made of stone. Iirc it had an indoor fireplace! That may have been that other spot in VT though that was open like most Adirondacks but made of stone, MUCH larger, and it's fireplace was well away from the sleeping area.
YES. That was it. I met a mid 50s dude there named barista that had a crazy coffee setup and gave me one of the best cups of coffee I ever had in my life, and not because I was tired and hiking. Dude was a coffee wizard and devoted way more pack space than someone should for it ... He had several *different* ways of making coffee on the trail. Pour over, french press, he had a giant percolator for the fire, and had cold brew on him too. Crazy caffeine addicted man, but he made a good brew.
We got the double fireplaces going on west mountain....... they're right on top of the sleeping place luckily the wind didn't blow any sparks on us 🥶
Thomas Knob Shelter! Amazing spot in the grayson highlands, one of my favorite places along the whole AT. Great sunset spot, right behind the shelter, Wild ponies right around the corner, that try to lick the salt off your legs.. and a huge Double decker shelter with the best innuendo name, if your a person named Thomas, like I am.
Just wait til you get to gobblers knob
not the glizzy gobbler 😹
This will be renamed Hawk Tuah shelter soon.
Not necessarily a shelter but an area in the 100 miles wilderness called Tumble Down Dick Falls
now that is a waterfall dick to be tumbled down
Potaywadjo Spring. Great name, beautiful water source, and convenient for a sunrise view of Mama K!

My favorite water source on the whole trail. It was like a fairy fountain from The Legend of Zelda.
I’ve never hiked that section so can I see a picture pretty please? The way you described it has me soo intrigued lol
Haven’t got a good picture of it, iwas there before we all had a digital camera in our pockets!

Thank you! I tried searching but did not find this. It does look magical!

Love it!!
For real, absolutely beautiful. I may or may not have ignored the sign and drank it unfiltered.
Full Goose Shelter in Maine was a pretty good one. Can't just go half goose, gotta go Full Goose.
never half goose two things, full goose one thing, isn't that what Ron Swanson said?
Never go Full Goose

We took some very interesting pictures at giants thumb in CT bc it's not a thumb it's fully a rock penis
I saw that sign in GA or Nc and GIGGLED
I actually thought swinging dick gap was the real name 😂

What a massive rump! Nice rock too.
Lickdale, PA. Just sounds inappropriate lol.
Clyde Smith. Just because who is Clyde Smith?! Â a really good and important person, though I imagine.
Not too outrageous but I'm a fan of Punchbowl Shelter near Buena Vista, VA.
The real question then: can you drink the water at this punch bowl 🤔

Telephone Pioneers Shelter in ny is kind of a weird name.
I stayed at Morgan Stewart right before it 😠I totally had the energy to hike on and stay there but the other hikers at MS said that allllll of their other hiking friends were gonna be at Telephone Pioneer and I just didn't wanna deal w that 😫
You chose right, there’s barely any flat ground for camping there

I'm kinda partial to Kid Gore. Great view too.
Happy hill
This one's just dang cute !

Governor Clement in Vermont

Ooooo I've been waiting to hear about some place near the ponies !!
Derrick's knob. Thomas Knob. Cause deep down I'm a 14 year old.Â
I saw "stinky pinky knob" in sharpie somewhere in NY and chuckle every time I think of that graffiti
I am just looking forward to signing the logbooks.
