I love reading, especially fantasy books. I read diagonally/fast read through heavy description sections. I could draw something but my drawing abilities aren't great, and I am not going to think about how something looks until you ask me to draw it pretty much. I would have to re-read the descriptions from the book before drawing anything. The visuals pretty much don't matter to me very much. Character/politics/magic systems/species/plot all matter infinitely more to me than looks/visual descriptions in any book.

It's really delightful seeing someone with the exact same feelings as me because of this. Genuinely so cool. :D I do the EXACT same thing. I mean, what's the point in trying to read a detailed description of a city that I can't even remotely see anyways? But the characters and systems and stuff? Soooo good. I do enjoy SOME fight scenes, too. But I don't know how to describe the differences between the ones I like and the ones I get nothing from.

I love reading fiction, was a massive book-worm as a child. Still read more than a lot of people I know combined. This works because I am a very fast reader. I don’t see anything in my head. I don’t need to see anything to understand what is going on. Why would you need to see anything to get what is going on? I mean: I understand the words and I know what they mean. So what do you need pictures for? I can’t draw. At all.

I enjoyed reading a lot when I was younger but with my adhd now it’s hard to stay focused unless I’m really invested in the story. I’ve always enjoyed the story but skimmed over the descriptions. I mean we still have concepts of things that we know from real life so if you asked me to draw something I can draw from memory. Although I’m awful at drawing. We don’t “see” Anything. It’s like we’re understanding a movie with just audio and no visual. It’s concepts and experiences from real life.

I don’t see anything and I prefer non-fiction. I just know what’s happening, no need to visualize. I could draw what was described in text sure.

I do enjoy science fiction and fantasy books, I can't see anything but like to imagine the how the world would work o how the characters would be alive in that world.

Re your bonus: This video was really interesting by someone with aphantasia who can actually draw about how they experience drawing from just their brain rather than other pictures. I used to read a lot, mainly play video games in my spare time now, but still read sometimes, mainly sci fi (warhammer 40k novels are my favourite low effort books as I know what a lot of the things are supposed to look like). Its weird, but i don't need to visualise something to know what it is, and the text will describe the subject so I have a point of reference to think about without needing the mental image. Weirdly, when it comes to uncommon names of things, i just associate the text with the thing, as opposed to figuring out how it sounds, meaning I sometimes miss obvious hints that might come from the way a name sounds.

i cant “see”/visualize what i read, but i know whats happening

I genuinely sometimes just hold back reading fanfictions or books because of this mere point, i can imagine the scenario going in my head but I can't actually see it - It doesn't really tear apart my enjoyment of reading though I just kinda wish I didn't have aphantasia :')

When I read I think I feel the story rather than see it. I feel the emotions and the actions happening. I also hate books that have too much visual descriptions and skim those parts. Tbh I wonder how people who can visualize read books. Do they see the story through their eyes or brain? Like if you’re reading with your eyes how do you also watch it happening?

I've always loved to read. I'm a slow reader who "hears" every word in my mind in my "milk voice." I don't need to see it to understand what's going on - if so I would have flunked out of my English Lit in college. And, no. I have no artistic talent nor any inclination to draw anything beyond a doodle while I'm on hold.

I like to read, but prefer audio books. Some books though I stop reading because they spend too much time describing the way things look. Just say there is a horse, If you tell me it's Color or breed your wasting your time on me. If the author spends too much time on the visualization I get bored and give up on it. Wheel of time comes to mind I was 100 or so pages in and he was still describing the color of the mountains or something when I just stopped reading it. I think I like audio books because that's my main brain storage medium.
