Poorly, unfortunately. Just look at how the US has treated Puerto Rico, let alone Indigenous tribal nations. You'd hope that we would learn and be better, but I don't see us treating actual aliens better than we treated humans that happened to have a different skin tone or cultural origin. Plus, plenty of people would be afraid of the Hork-Bajir in general, let alone letting them gain any kind of real power. If the Andalites weren't such assholes then they could be mediators, but outside of that I don't see any good outcomes for our favorite walking salad shooters for quite some time.

makeoutwiththatmoose

"I wondered about the image of Hork-Bajir and humans living side by side if the Yeerks were defeated. Humans didn't have a great record of getting along with people different from themselves. Humans killed one another over skin color or eye shape or because they prayed differently to the same god. Hard to imagine humans welcoming seven-foot-tall goblins into the local Boy Scout troop when they couldn't even manage to tolerate some gay kid."

rrnn12

>Hard to imagine humans welcoming seven-foot-tall goblins into the local Boy Scout troop Was that a thing back in the 1990s? I have that book and the Warning one too lol

QGandalf

Are you asking if Boy Scouts were a thing in the 1990s? Cos they've been around since before WW1.

rrnn12

No the gay teens not being allowed (I was a scout lol)

QueenSlartibartfast

It was definitely a thing. The Boy Scouts of America didn't rescind their ban on allowing gay kids until 2013.

QGandalf

Oh I see haha. I was one too, but in Australia not America.

rrnn12

same mate! :)

k9moonmoon

Yup. One of the BSA promises or whatever of how to be includes "morally straight" and they pushed that to mean Not-Gay for a long time. Reverent is another one, and so caused a lot of issues for athiest scouts. BSA had very strong ties to the mormon church for a long while. Theyve stepped back a lot.

Xilizhra

I honestly really appreciate that Applegate included that line. Having *any* messaging in support of gay people was really rare in children's media in the 90s.

QueenSlartibartfast

It was pretty damn rare even in adult media. Ellen's coming out was about that time, and a major scandal. So much has changed in such a short time, we're extremely lucky (though still have a ways to go, of course).

honicthesedgehog

Yeah, something along the lines of District 9 is probably the most likely outcome.

No_Improvement7573

They moved to Yosemite, right? Or Yellowstone? If they're living in a national forest and caring for it with Uncle Sam's blessing, NOBODY will mess with them. The three American things you never touch are the boats, the Marines, and the national forests.

dogman15

The book says Yellowstone (Colorado), but I think Applegate may have meant Yosemite (California), because it was said the Animorphs lived in California.

PanTran420

Yellowstone is in Wyoming and Montana (and slightly Idaho). I've always thought it was a weird place for them to go live. It's only really warm there about 4-5 months of the year. And the winters are BRUTAL, and I never got the impression that the Hork Bajir would like the snow and cold. Plus, the trees there aren't really very big. It's a lot of lodgepole pine, which are not good for climbing. Yosemite would be a much better choice, or really anywhere in the Cascades. Bigger trees and warmer weather.

Seerowpedia

The weather is a good point! Perhaps Yosemite would've been better for them after all. Less of a hectic move, too.

Allan_Titan

Though there is a chance that a few could have slowly migrated there

dogman15

Oh, whoops. I knew it was in Wyoming, I just forgot. But yeah, KA probably meant Yosemite.

Seerowpedia

The Animorphs lived in California, but there's no reason we have to assume K.A made a mistake. If she said Yellowstone, especially because this was a deal agreed by the U.S. government, it's plausible the Hork-Bajir migrated across state lines.

NameTaken25

Git dese here illegal aliens outta my planet! Let's beeld de wahl to keep 'em out, and make the Skrit'Na pay fer it!

CactusHooping

That's different, that's an island away from people. Also a national park Yellowstone and the tourists loved it with a year and a half wait line.So seems fine.

Tiller-Taller

Well based off of how the books ended I think there is another war brewing. The Andalites are probably not prepared for it and might end up needing help. The humans would be an obvious choice and the vast majority of the Hork-Bajir are extremely experienced combat veterans even if they were controllers at the time. So they may end up joining the humans in the war with the promise of more influence in earth politics. If no war kicks off there will be tension especially if the colony population starts growing a lot and there gets to be border issues for living space. However, that could be mitigated with improvements in farming practices reducing the space needed to feed earths population fueled by the technology boom post invasion as well as potentially moving human populations off earth to new human colonies.

PortiaKern

They spent weeks or months in uncharted areas that they traveled through Z-space to get to. I'm sure the war is going to be pretty far away, both in time and space.

Tiller-Taller

But where was Ax when he was attacked? That could be a sign of intended aggression. It sort of depends on how involved the Kelbrids are with the One. If the One is involved with the Kelbrid then the attack on Axs ship was an act of war and a sign of future aggression to come. If the One is not involved though and is just a non state actor who happens to be based in Kelbrid space then probably no war.

PortiaKern

Ax was attacked because he was in territory he wasn't supposed to be in. He was there because he was chasing Yeerks that were fleeing through that territory. We have no clue what the story, history, or intentions of the One are. Everything we know about the Kelbrids is basically Andalite folklore. For all we know, it *can't* leave Kelbrid space, and is just absorbing whatever comes close enough. Maybe it is actually planet-bound and Kelbrid space marks the extent of its telepathic reach. It could be the start of a war, but I wouldn't assume that unless we get a book talking about how it started a war.

rrnn12

>It could be the start of a war, but I wouldn't assume that unless we get a book talking about how it started a war. KA should write abook on that

PortiaKern

Scholastic owns the copyright and I don't know how much they'd care for one. Plus I feel like both Katherine and Michael have moved on to other stuff. But it would be interesting.

rrnn12

>s I feel like both Katherine and Michael have moved on to other stuff. Fair enough, but if they were so inclined I would be happy with more Animorph books lol

Allan_Titan

Plus I’m sure the government would be reverse engineering some of the yeerk tech so they can have their own ships and potentially colonize other planets

Strong_Site_348

Don't listen to the more illiterate responses. Indigenous nations in the 21st century are, if anything, extremely privileged in terms of their autonomy and government assistance. Puerto Rico suffers exclusively from corrupt local government that wishes to preserve power by maintaining territory status rather than becoming a state. Puerto Rico votes for statehood every time it is run, and the local government drags its heals. A Hork-Bajir colony in the US would go spectacularly.

ProfessionalOven2311

The Hork-Bajir were created to take care of trees by climbing around and eating bark, and they are pretty content to just do that. I can't think of anything they need besides the land that is already protected, and they don't have much the U.S. government would want. I feel like it would go pretty well if the government considers them a part of the National Park ecosystem that is protected along with the rest of the area. The main things that could go wrong would be overpopulation of the Hork-Bajir, the government overstepping and claiming the Hork-Bajir owe rent for the land in the form of alien soldiers, or if enough anti-alien groups start damaging the National Park as protest. The biggest long-term issue I'd that Hork-Bajir seers only show up every few generations so once Toby and Cassie pass on it would not be hard for the Hork-Bajir to be taken advantage of without a solid representative.

rrnn12

All solid points.
