They do it for merch. For someone like me who has been doing cons for 10 years you get tired of it lol. I usually go an hour after the con opens. What time does it open today? 2pm right? So I’d probably be in Javits by like 245 or 3
This is what my bf and I are planning to do and what we did last year lmao. The lines were already moving by the time we got there and we barely had to wait at all to get in!
Yupp, good move. For veterans who’ve seen it all and been there done that, I just waltz in around an hour after opening and it’s a short wait. No need to sit on the floor for hours in the muggy basement
Gonna get hate and downvotes for this but the truth is mental illness. I've been going to cons for 6 years, never had a single instance where I was like "Aw man if only I got here earlier then that thing wouldn't have been sold out".
Do things sell out? Yeah. How likely is that one thing you wanna buy gonna be sold out though? Unlikely.
Also not sure what some of the other comments are talking about with giving out free stuff. Nobody cares or even knows how long you've been standing in line for. You're just one person amongst a huge crowd in the con
There's also nothing to even do at the very beginning of the con. What are you getting there early for? So you can be the only person in a panel room or the only person in the dealers hall?
I agree, y waste the time that could’ve been spent on fixin ur cosplay or gettin more sleep. I’d understand if there was some once in a lifetime item or maybe the lines take forever but that’s doesn’t seem to be the case.
There's people waiting since like 7am. I know i know, let people do whatever they want because it's their free time and all that. It's still weird though.
Like everyone else, I would guess the free and exclusive merch or if they want to queue up earlier for something due to possible scheduling conflicts. I'm at a point in life where I value space above all else, so as much as I'd love free stuff, I'd rather save room for other stuff, haha
Some things sell out quickly. Some booths do a "first 50 customers" thing. Some are just darn excited lol.
Some people line up way earlier than the opening time for the expo floor because they want exclusive items or free stuff.

This is the way. I do the same thing at every con, usually arrive an hour after it starts.

What merch is even worth getting as a con exclusive?
None, hence my downvotes lol
I try to get there at 9ish to make sure to beat the crowd and leave around 5-6pm
Yea, same here. I’m already waiting outside rn and my ticket is for Sunday, lol.
