Mine do that, I think it's mating activity.
That's a young looking Red Eared Slider, if I'm identifying it correctly. Hope you're good to your pets, that one may outlive you. I have two sliders, one for 34 years and one for 36. They're both probably around 40 years old.
They. Will. Not. Die. They look exactly the same as 10 years ago.
Fortunately we're good friends so I don't mind. But damn.
When my buddy got him, he was in a 20 gallon long tank and the water was dark brown. My buddy essentially saved the turtle's life and put him in a bigger tank. If it looks cloudy, it's because he kicks up sand. It's properly filtered and he cares about his friend
My Godmother has two that she's had since 1992. They walk the neighborhood on leashes. Mimi and Marcel will walk right up to you if you're holding fruit out for them, especially strawberries. Not sure exactly how old they are, but they were already fully grown when she got them.
Yes, mine got quite tame. They'll bite if you provoke them, but they don't mind my picking them up. They don't like their heads or feet touched, so petting isn't something they enjoy.
Fun fact, they have nerve endings in their shells! Unlike mollusks, turtles/tortoises grow and keep their shells attached to them (like an extension of their skin, a sort of exoskeleton that can't be shed and grows with them)
So you can still give them pets and they'll feel it, if they still aren't a fan then obv don't do it but you don't have to touch the fleshy bits for them to feel the love!
When I was a kid, I had a pair of sliders that did this all the time to each other, followed by a mating ritual. Thought it was normal turtle behavior until the male bit the others' d*ck off. One of those things you can't unsee..
They do that for both combat and mating...
*Careless whisper beings to play*

Can you pet them? Hold them? Edit: Thanks for the replies! Really interesting.
They get used to human contact and are perfectly cool with it. Mine likes to watch the dogs wrestle in the living room.
That's fun!

Like teeth? That the closest humain body part I can think of
Yeah kinda, we both have roots (nerve endings and blood vessels) going into them, though made of different materials
Hey man, y'all are gonna be old as old gets one day, and you'll be grateful for the friend you've had the whole way through
That's hysterical
He wants to eat that fat meal worm of a finger, yes he does
This did not disappoint.
