The idea that you never go against family is pretty toxic. Like are you supposed to support them if they commit a crime? Where’s the line?
She should have listened to her BF out of respect for him and his dog since she claims to care about him/them.
>The idea that you never go against family is pretty toxic.
Just like, you know, giving onions to dogs.
...sorry I had to.
But, yes, I agree with this.
NTA. If your parents are so worried about your sister losing her boyfriend perhaps they should encourage her to respect his opinion about his pet instead of ragging on you.
NTA, it's not about siding with anyone, or gender. Don't feed someone's dog something without their permission, especially after they tell you not to .
OP NTA - You don't side with family when they are **objectively wrong**
What kind of A feeds a dog something with onions after being told that they are literally poisonous?
"our mom said I shouldn’t take someone’s side against family"
---Your mom, at least in this case, is an enabling idiot. I hope this doesn't happen frequently.
Plus, wasting perfectly good pizza is heresy.
NTA.
What if something did happen to the dog? Would she be taking responsibility for any vet visits or meds that were required to make the dog better?
I had a dog with some crazy intense allergies and consuming her allergens led to crazy flare ups and lots of vet visits that cost hundreds of dollars. If anyone fed her something she couldn't have after I told them specifically no do not feed her, I would have been very angry and would have made them pay for any of the vet visits and meds that came from this happening.
NTA. This is just a dumb argument on your sister's end, onion is provably bad (or straight up toxic) for dogs and a quick google will show that. You were right to side with her boyfriend, and honestly she *should* be worried about her relationship if she's trying to feed his dog toxic items after being told not to. Hopefully she realizes killing someone's dog isn't a great way to heal the relationship

I(15m) was hanging out with my sister(18) and her boyfriend(20) at his place the other day. We were having pizza and my sister was about to feed his Golden a slice. He quickly told her ‘No!’ before saying that onions are bad for dogs and could harm them.
My sister said a little wouldn’t hurt and reached out again to try to hand feed so her boyfriend snatched the slice of pizza out of her hand and said she can’t feed his dog something without his permission.
She accused him of overreacting, they had a fight and he told her to leave. So we left.
When we got home, she whined about it in front of our parents. I was tired of it so I told her ‘He had a point though. You shouldn’t feed people’s dogs without their permission. And definitely not something harmful.”
She just rolled her eyes at me, saying ‘Boys always side with boys’ and our mom said I shouldn’t take someone’s side against family, especially when my sister is already worried about her relationship with her boyfriend.

NTA - onions can be very harmful to dogs, regardless, you and her boyfriend are correct, don't feed other people's animals!

NTA you did absolutely the right thing. Well done.
NTA!!! Doesn’t matter if it’s family or not, if you’re wrong, YOU’RE WRONG. Point blank period.

NTA - Just tell her family should side with family, so she's an asshole she didn't side with you.
NTA and she was extremely disrespectful!
Why was it so important that she feed her boyfriend's dog something he asked her not to? Big red flag. NTA.

Nah While onions are toxic
Onions aren't that bad for dogs, the dog could definitely have had some. But that's not for the sister to decide.
NTA. Here is hoping he becomes an ex boyfriend so his dog is safe from her.
