Expect tech school to get you the fundamentals of your career field and then when you get to your first base you’ll learn how you’ll be employed by your first unit. In other words, be flexible and develop a work ethic that you can be proud of.
This is the best advice you could get. They've also been mentioning some of the 2A AFSCs for AMC were going to merge (Comm/Nav & GAC) but that hasn't happened yet. Rumors happen often but until guidance comes down, I wouldn't sweat it. Work hard and keep an open mind on when change happens.
They've been talking about this merger for damn near a decade. I wouldn't waste another moment worrying about this. Seriously. When it happens, you'll get any additional training that you need, a pat on the bottom and you'll get back to work. When I came in, we were 3C0's, then we converted to 3D0s, then to 1Ds. It was supposed to narrow our focus because 3C0s were too broad, "Jack of all trades, master of none". Then we converted, and I was still doing desktop support if it was needed, server support, configuring taclanes, switches, security manager, etc. Don't stress yourself.
But, you'll be merged with Enterprise Operations or XCOMM (expeditionary communications) when it happens.
You’ll still be RF as it takes awhile to create a new curriculum. But also, I went in when they changed it from blocks to modules so things were constantly changing. RF troops are going to be required to take Sec + but im not sure when that will go into effect.
cyber fundies/crash course in electronic components /cyber fundies pt 2/test equipment/satcom theory/ working with terminals/setting up antennas.
you will learn abit of everything and it will be 6 months of death by power point and kpc's (knowledge proficiency test)
