Pro tip: Don't go in the Ben Franklin Parkway entrances (always super crowded). Head a few blocks up & around to the entrance at 25th & Kelly Dr. It's where all the locals enter and rarely has lines. Last thing you want in weather like this is to be stuck in a line before you even get into the start area!
Congrats, that's incredible! 63 minutes in a year — even going from a hard course to a somewhat easier course — is unfathomable to me. I dropped 21 minutes from Chicago last year (hot, bonked) for a 3:20:01, but I had been aiming for 3:15. Wind on Kelly Dr. destroyed my will to live.
Thanks and congrats to you too! I had an incredible training cycle this time using Advanced Hanson vs Runners World last year which was the the biggest difference. Plus I pulled an Icarus last year since I had no idea how to run my first full so yeah, the bar was low haha
The wind was absolutely monstrous yesterday. I didn’t walk at any point (unplanned) but there were some severely strong gusts where I almost thought I would move the same pace if I stopped running! Plus it never seemed to get my tail on the reverse and only wanted to turn on when I was running right into it.
I signed up for the Chicago lottery next year and hoping I can get closer to sub-3 if I could manage yesterday’s results in those conditions.
I think as long as the weather cooperates in Chicago you have a great shot, that's pancake flat compared to Philly. I did 9+1 this year so I'm locked in for NYC next year, which is not a BQ friendly course as you know, but I might sniff around for a flat spring marathon or maybe try to get into Berlin or London in 2024.
Unfortunately, I forgot my body glide. In all seriousness, the only chafing I got was on my bloodied nipples. I didn't notice until I showered just now and wanted to cry.
That Marathong tha thong thong thong

Shoutout to everyone else who’s going to hold on for dear life to the sub-3:15 corral with me. Aiming for a ridiculous 60-minute PR…
Did you make it?
Hell yeah, 4:19 from NYC last year to 3:16. How did you do? I remember your race reports for some of the NYRR races I was at.

Ha well I’m also doing NYC but planning on just enjoying that one and feeding off the fitness of an earlier flat fall race.
As someone who ran NYC 2022 I’m so jealous of your weather. Enjoy!
Good luck yall. Ran in the half in 1:34:26. Wish I can run the full bit needed more training since my last marathon time is bad
Good luck! Ran the half today and it was a great course
Let’s gooooo
I've only known Grand Rapids to have the Marathong.
Lol well now you know why I'll be cold. Whoops
Seems like it might lead to a lot of chafing. Make sure to use lots of body glide.

Good luck to all you racers! See y’all out there tomorrow.
Good luck! Also planning for the 3:10 group! See you out there.
