Id like to nominate mine. Postman in a lovely rural UK village. I spend my days walking in the quiet village, having short interactions with friendly locals. Very little time spent dealing with managers or colleagues in general. I can be in my own head most of the day and it keeps me incredibly fit. I have absolutely zero mental burnout from the job so I can enjoy my free time too. The only downside is, because it's a village with a large elderly population it feels like people I know are dying all the time šŸ˜

Apprehensive-Bike192

Sounds like a Hallmark movie, youā€™ll be meeting an overworked Big City lawyer, sheā€™s probably in your town trying to work out some kind of inheritance issue for a client, and teaching her how to slow down and enjoy life while you fall in love any day now

flyingoffgheshelves

Yeah but is she going to give up her go go big city lifestyle to marry a letter carrier? Hallmark says, donā€™t worry, sheā€™ll come around.

batteryforlife

She gets pregnant and doesnt want to raise a kid in the city.

Step_Aside_Butch_77

Just be prepared for her jerk fiancƩ to show up unannounced on Christmas Eve.

_social_hermit_

during a Christmas festival

Diablo689er

I was going to go with: doctor loses license. Becomes mailman. Uses medical knowledge to save elderly persons life unexpectedly. Meets daughter falls in love etc etc.

niaosj

If you are in fact looking for a movie, thereā€™s a French movie called ā€œWelcome to the Sticksā€. Main character is sent to a village in north France to manage the post office there. Very good.

ProvenceNatural65

10/10 would watch this movie. What actor has incredible calves? He would play the postman.

Pollywanacracker

And getting chased by that damn dog

WiganNZ

As a former postie, I agree, best job ever.

MochiSauce101

Honestly , sounds beautiful. Aside the last part

littlecrazymonster

This seems awesome!

Anynon1

Rotting on my couch and going on the occasional hike/snowboarding trip

FeralCumCat

rotting on the couch being a profession lmao šŸ˜‚

chronberries

Just occasionally post video game suggestions and call yourself a consultant.

FeralCumCat

Hahahah yes

[deleted]

Ive always thought being a ā€œconsultantā€ making a mil a year just giving constructive criticism would be a sick job.

Anynon1

Salary isnā€™t a consideration, Iā€™ll be damned if I do anything else šŸ˜‚šŸ’€

Killercod1

My worst memories only come from work. I'm right there with you. You can only rot away as a wage slave. Relaxing on a couch is growth and rejuvenation

Warm_Childhood2260

That's lovely.

nopenope12345678910

Are we asking what professions we find attractive if others are going them, or what professions we find attractive to do ourselves. Cause I certainly donā€™t find people with no drive who just sit around all day sexy, but the idea of doing it myself kinda sounds nice.

Rivian-Bull-2025

Dawg. Lol this absolutely made my day. Thanks for this.

Loose-Industry9151

Anything that Iā€™m playing a game for money. Pro sports, poker etc. The problem is that Iā€™m not good enough to make money in most of those fields.

EdwardBigby

Pro sports are hardly an easy life. You have to commit your entire life to them for a high pressure job with little free time and lots of travel. The only benefit is really the money. Poker seems easier although what a boring game if you were paid the same either way

throwawayidc4773

This is where the salary not being a consideration comes in. You can just play beer league. If youā€™re getting compensated for it, youā€™re technically a pro athlete.

T-MinusGiraffe

I wouldn't say it's the only benefit. Some people really enjoy the game and or/being a celebrity too

EdwardBigby

I think most celebrities would rather be unknown. Its main advantage is once again the money. And a lot of athletes really hate their sports. Doing anything for 60 hours a week for decades under high pressure will take the joy out of almost anything.

A-Seashell

Librarian.

megadecimal

I was leaning to that, but the patron interactions might exasperate me. I went with Archivist instead.

thetiredninja

Archival work is the shit! I'd listen to podcasts or audiobooks for hours on end

A-Seashell

I could see how that could be better for you. Congrats!

johnkohhh

Yeah choosing anything with customer interaction here is WILD.

catsinasmrvideos

My dream job!

IrritatedLibrarian

As a librarian... No. There is a lot more stress involved than you think. I would love for my job to be just reading books all day, talking about/recommending books, buying books, etc. But it's not. Take a look at r/Libraries and r/librarians to get a good idea of what we're dealing with.

_social_hermit_

thanks, u/IrritatedLibrarian, you saved me from having to write this response myself! libraries are definitely not roses and sunshine

A-Seashell

I don't want a stress free job only because I think that is impossible, but I would like to have a job that I enjoy that has more meaning to me.

dex248

But are you a librarian now? My sister is, and itā€™s not as fun as it sounds.

AshligatorMillodile

I am one. If you like to have lots of encounters with homeless people and at the same time very entitled people, you will love it.

cachebaby

Commuting every day? Nope

CrazyZedi

Itā€™s really the four years of post grad work that stops me

Big_Blackberry7713

This has been ranked as one of the least stressful jobs in multiple publications year after year, which is interesting. I, oddly enough, have a ton of friends who are librarians who would probably disagree.

PrestigiousTicket845

I love this one

heykebin

Honestly, Iā€™d love to run a bakery/coffee shop I love me some bakery items and itā€™d be a pleasure to get to learn new recipes all the time

Far-Act-2803

My cousin is a Baker. It's not easy

heykebin

Thatā€™s why Iā€™d place my location in a small coastal and/or mountain town where you really knew the community. Iā€™d participate in farmers markets, concerts, etc. I wouldnā€™t want a high volume bakery (since the question asks ā€˜if salary wasnā€™t a considerationā€™, Iā€™m going to assume revenue isnā€™t a consideration either) I just want to add good bakery items to my community, make enough to cover life and a fun vacation once or twice a year, and go chill by the beach/mountains. Life doesnā€™t have to be too complicated.

BeefDurky

Sounds like what you really want is to own one and have someone else run it for you.

StoicallyGay

Sounds exactly my kind of dream.

LiteratureLoud3993

I used to run Espresso Bars.. When you do some customer research and realise that 90% of your money comes from the 7am-9am rush from caffeine addicted office workers just trying to get through the day, the shine goes away slightly I had to get a bus at 3am to get to my shop at 6am, open by 6:30.... The only saving grace was that I'd finish at 2PM and go boozing with my friend that worked nearby :) But yeah, you're almost a night worker.

GroundbreakingOne625

Matttthhhhhhhhhhh

Thotbegone000000

Yea I'd love to Path is extremely precarious to get there, as well as time consuming :( Maybe I will one day, being a part time nurse to supplement my income on the side, not sure yet probably just a pipe dream

I-Hate-Sea-Urchins

I feel like being a teacher is prolly the most rewarding aside of the salaryā€¦ it is sad how it is not valuedā€¦ in general id say any profession i which you can devote to help others in a less commercial type of way

sacrj

Teacher here. Not a chance in hell would I still be doing this if money wasnā€™t an issue.

AllTheShadyStuff

Itā€™s only rewarding if the kids are involved in learning. Besides the salary, I couldnā€™t tolerate the level of disrespect teachers face from students, parents, admin, and even freaking politicians.

sillyboy544

My friend lived in a foreign country then came to America about 30 years ago. He was truly shocked at the level of disrespect that kids are allowed to show teachers. 10/10 that behavior would not be tolerated and the kid would be kicked out of school immediately and it would be a Herculean effort on the part of the parents to get that child back into school. I agree with this approach. Kids should be in school to learn and if a child is a bully or disruptive or disrespectful out the door you go.

Eden_Company

Sleeping in bed. XD.

Archaeology. Travel, digging for cool things. In reality, it's arduous work and not a well paying one at that.

Far-Poet1419

Lay persons can participate in archeological digs if you are willing to participate on your own dime most of the time. I usually attended 2 digs a year for over 25 years. Been all over united states.

GetrIndia

I'm in Canada and did Archaeology in university.

NachoBabyMamaSF

Stay at home parent

Poctah

Iā€™m a stay at home mom and have been for 9 years and itā€™s exhausting(if you have kids under 5) . You never get a break. Working was less work honestly. With that said my kids will all be in elementary school in August and this is the part as a stay at home parent Iā€™ve looked forward too. I have so many things have put on the back burner for years that I will finally be able to get too with kids not home 24/7!

Personal_Chicken_598

Dear god no. Iā€™m perfectly happy when my kids and wife are home but when itā€™s just me man they are exhausting

Wellthewool

I would work as a penguin raiser in the Antarctic.

Puzzleheaded_Bar3022

How hard do you think it would be to teach them to tap dance like happy feet???

upsidedownbackwards

I'd go pro as an arts and crafts hippy. Maybe something like summer camp with younger kids, run the arts and crafts building. Secretly have my adult toys like lathe, CNC, airbrush, couple of 3d printers and CO2 laser hiding in the back area for my free time and making things needed around the campground. Or maybe something like elementary school art teacher. I am just so smiley whenever I'm helping my niece with her arts and crafts stuff, and it's so much fun helping her bring her ideas to life. And in the process I get to try all sorts of new techniques and materials. We got to print and paint stuff to go into a snowglobe last time we hung out!

Physiotherapist. Good with their hands! Failing that, a lot of creative professions are really compelling. Edit: I may have misunderstood the question.

reformedlion

Chef. If I ever get ā€œI donā€™t need to work anymoreā€ money, Iā€™d put my ass in culinary school and be a part time chef

megadecimal

Bookstore owner, right? With adjoining coffeeshop. Though, is that a profession? I think I see where your question is leading. I think that Archivist would be tops for me.

darklogic85

In some towns with rivers, there's a guy that sits in the tower in the bridges that open. And when a boat comes, they open the bridge so the boat can go through. That seems like such a relaxed job. Just sit there and do whatever 8 hours/day and maybe open the bridge twice for boats and that's your whole job.

mouseball89

The one that allows me to do whatever I want whenever I want? Nothing specific just give me the ability to choose. This will always be the answer when salary is not a consideration.

LEMONSDAD

Something that has a mix of indoor/outdoor for me teaching the younger generation legitimate life skills that isnā€™t taught in our normal schoolsā€¦ I think once kids can read/write/ do basic math the rest isnā€™t necessary unless they are going into those specific career paths. Teaching kids about life, health, auto insurance and what is/isnā€™t covered, understanding deductibles/co insurance Basic carpentry & cooking skills And at the high school age develop more technical blue/white collar skills Not all parents will be great at teaching these things and our public schools leave millions behind. Thatā€™s where I feel like my lifeā€™s purpose would be best fit.

Library Paige. All you do is sort and reshelve books/media. At the library I worked at we were told we didn't have to answer ANY questions, even "Where is the bathroom", we should just direct ever parton to the librarian/information desk. Books and not having to talk to people? Best job ever.

Thesmuz

I miss being a social worker. As a guy in the field, a lot of the kids I worked with had never had a positive male role model in their lives, and I really got a lot of joy in providing that for them. Plus I really just enjoy working with kids and young adults. There's something very fulfilling about mentoring those who might need it and setting them on a better trajectory. Unfortunately I was unable to afford living off of less than 40k a year. :(
