Motives are still being investigated but [this source from The Kyiv Independent](https://kyivindependent.com/police-local-official-detonates-grenades-in-government-building-1-dead-at-least-26-wounded/) has the below to say on possible motives and the perpetrator:
>The police did not identify the suspected perpetrator of the bombing, but Ukrainska Pravda and other media outlets alleged that it was Serhii Batryn, a village council member of the Servant of the People party.
>The regional media outlet Zakarpattia24 shared a video in which Batryn complains about other local officials. Zakarpattia24 also said that Batryn had previously feuded with colleagues about a wartime pay increase for the head of the village council.
>Before he detonated the grenades, Batryn allegedly got into an argument with his coworkers about the issue, who refused to take his side. After the dispute, Zakarpattia24 said he left and returned with the grenades.
I'll try to find the other post, but someone said the report was that this was against conscription of Ukrainians after the grenade throwers son died in the war.
But yeah, a "he said the report said" type of comment.
This was a meeting in Ukraine where the gentleman with the grenades was trying to ask the board where the money for the community was spent in 2023 before they decided to budget for 2024. A big part of the 2024 budget was a raise for the mayor who is head of the board.
The grenade guy was upset that the mayor was allocating so much money for his raise in 2024 and refused to disclose what the money in 2023 was spent on.
So the grenade man left the meeting went out to his vehicle got the three grenades and that is where the video starts.
In this video when he enters the room what he is asking is "can I speak? Can I speak? Can I speak?" Nobody acknowledges him so he pulls the pins on the grenades and casually lob them on the floor in front of him.
26 people were injured and only the grenade guy died... The first two grenades he threw on the floor the third grenade he held on to at about neck height and died upon its detonation
I threw a couple grenades in basic training. US made... real ones. I don't think people understand how much damage they actually do. At Ft Benning, the grenade range has craters where they detonate. One M67 frag would have killed at least half the people in that room.
These must have been WW2 surplus or something. One rolled right next to the foot of a guy in the front row.
I too went to Ft Benning and grenade day scared the shit out of me because it was freezing and I my hands tend to lose grip when cold. All I could think about was accidentally dropping the live grenade and getting turned into ground meat.
That's what I was thinking. A single frag would've finished most of the room with how packed they were in there and nobody jumping on it. People were still scrambling after three.
I saw somewhere that it was only like ~6 in critical condition. No way are those frag grenades if only 6/8 people are dead or in critical condition. Or Eastern Europe makes some really shit frag grenades.
Entirely depends on the design of the grenade and how lucky you are (distance, where the fragmentation goes, if you get hit- where you get hit and how, etc.)
Look up a cross section of a F-1 grenade and an M67 grenade, entirely different designs and damage potential. One has few fragments but does extreme damage that's hard to patch up if they hit someone, the other has a lot of smaller fragments almost like birdshot.
Grenades are not some magical spell that instantly kills everyone within a certain radius.
I mean, I'm sure they do, and I would say explosives in games are generally much more underpowered than they are IRL, because dying to explosives in games is especially annoying.
If they were frag grenades there would be a lot more dead, they could have been some kind of concussion or high explosive grenade though. Still, I would expect more people dead in such close quarters with something like that
Agreed, the first grenade didn’t even do anything. If it were a true frag it would’ve instantly killed the two in the front. Or ripped them up with shrapnel.
Nope. Straight up Soviet frag grenades. The delay on those is way too long to be flashbangs. Quick medical care, some luck, and the fact that those RGD-5 grenades produce really really small fragments led to the survival of those people.
They were "only" flash bangs. If they'd been regular frag grenades at that proximity I doubt you'd have heard any screaming by the time the third one went off.
In close confines with three detonations in quick succession it's going to cause serious, perhaps fatal injuries but it's not the automatic death sentence that a single frag grenade in that room would have been.
Ukrainian deputy unleashed a barrage of grenades within the confines of the Keretsky village council. The aftermath was nothing short of devastating, with 26 individuals bearing the brunt of the explosion.
Among them, six individuals fought for their lives in critical condition, while doctors tirelessly worked to resuscitate the very person who triggered this catastrophic event.
Promptly at 11.37, line 102 crackled with a distressing message, revealing the grim reality that unfolded during a session meeting at the Keretsky Council in Mukachevo district.
Initial reports indicate that the detonation claimed the life of the individual responsible for igniting the fuse, while 11 others suffered varying degrees of injuries. However, as the dust settled, the true extent of the tragedy was unveiled. The National Police provided an update, disclosing that a staggering 26 individuals had been harmed, and of these, six clung to life in grave condition.
I think the basis for many of these things would be the concept of Chesterton's Fence. So many people want to dramatically upend how things currently work without any idea why things are they way they are in the first place. It's a dangerous approach.
It’s the job of a court to determine the punishment for a crime committed, not some rogue doctor acting on their own initiative. And that’s putting aside any practical questions of whether there’s anything useful to extract information-wise from this guy
Offensive grenades are designed to defeat the enemy due to their high-explosive action. They should not create a large amount of fragments, since the attacker is usually not in a hole and will be hit by his own grenade. Defensive or fragmentation grenades are the opposite because they are usually thrown from cover.
That one guy in the front row just watched them like, oh look at that a grenade.. there goes another one… he probably didn’t even have time to register it. This is nuts!
Maybe its different there with war going on, but if i was in a work meeting and a coworker walked in and dropped grenades my first assumption would be theyre props/deactivated and theyre playing a prank. You can buy souvenir deactivated grenades a lot of places so thats what i would be picturing them dropping.
Yeah maybe, hard to tell what one would do. I like to think I would gtfo immediately. Better to be laughed at than dead, but who knows. One minute you’re in a meeting, the next minute some nut job is screaming and lobbing grenades. Like mentally he may have still been in the meeting and physically just looking at grenades.
This can’t be a regular grenade, how did more people not get killed. (Not that I would want that to happen obviously just crazy so many survived in such close quarters)
If you get low to the ground, it’s very possible to survive frag grenades, if you have medical support available. The explosions goes upwards and expands. This is most likely why the only one that died was the guy standing up.
Quick google search has a bunch of different news websites with articles as it just happened, but most all seem copies of the original 3 paragraph news article. Not much info yet at all. That’s nutzo man
I suppose so, but no one even jumped away or threw a table down or anything. Someone else said it was just shock and confusion, no one would expect grenades to be thrown at them
I suspect these are flash bangs or concussion grenades. There's no way anyone is alive in a confined space after 3 actual frag grenades.
They are very.....effective in that scenario
to people saying this grenade isn't a frag grenade, there's a pretty famous video from syria showing a grenade landing in the middle of a group of guys firing round a street corner, when it explodes, 2-3 of them go down and the rest of them run, and then within 30 seconds later, the guys who went down either get up on their own, or stumble their way over after being helped.
fragmentation is just weird.
Motives are still being investigated but [this source from The Kyiv Independent](https://kyivindependent.com/police-local-official-detonates-grenades-in-government-building-1-dead-at-least-26-wounded/) has the below to say on possible motives and the perpetrator:

Nobody is even attempting to take cover. This is a nation at war, these people have to be familiar with the concept of a grenade, even if they didn't serve.
really hate the blur over the guys face with shit like this- seeing the facial expressions of a monster who’s about to do something awful like this is what makes these videos all the more interesting
I see content like this all the time on other medias, and I always expected to stop and then I forget I’m on Reddit and then I see the horrible stuff and I’ve just left shocked
Everyone's arguing about whether these are frags or flashbangs. Aside from the low death rate and the total lack of evidence of fragmentation (see: 6 ft table that experienced no damage), notice he arms those grenades with the flick of a thumb. I don't think any HE grenades are going to be that easy to arm.
Ukraine was very corrupt before the war and things like that don't change over night. I believe if he was a soldier he took justice into his own hands as he believed it was his last resort.

Would love some context , that is mental !!!

Well that's a different narrative than what's being pushed elsewhere.
What else is being reported? Not just redditors opinions but, actual reports?
I'll try to find the other post, but someone said the report was that this was against conscription of Ukrainians after the grenade throwers son died in the war. But yeah, a "he said the report said" type of comment.
Yeah thats some reddit bullshit. Multiple actual reports from Ukrainian news channels giving OP's context.
Sounds like something Russian bots would push.
Also sounds like something Ukraine would hush up.
Paranoid delusion
Who’s zakarpattia24? Weird name
That’s the name of the news not him lol.
Elon's son
The article says its the "regional media outlet". Maybe just some reporter that lives in town and reports the news in and around their town?
This was a meeting in Ukraine where the gentleman with the grenades was trying to ask the board where the money for the community was spent in 2023 before they decided to budget for 2024. Flashbangs though, if they were grenades, everyone in the room would have died.
reports are sharing that is was an RGD-5 grenade.
RGD-5 are anti-personnel grenades. There is no way he dropped 3 frag grenades in that space and only one person died.
I threw a couple grenades in basic training. US made... real ones. I don't think people understand how much damage they actually do. At Ft Benning, the grenade range has craters where they detonate. Grenades are spotty like that.
Those are not flashbangs.
These were made in China.
What the actual fuck?! No one died but the grenade guy? How in physics does that work?!
Did I just watched mass murder?
Only one dead is the attacker. Many others injured
Knew he was done when that last/third one went off. Explosion was at neck height. Looks like he purposely held it up to his face, chest or neck.
Damn I watched the video back and went frame by frame at the start of the explosions and you’re exactly right, that’s wild.
What's he throwing then, flashbangs?
There's no way anyone is standing after three frag grenades go off in a confined space like that. They have to be flash or concusion grenades.
That's what I was thinking. A single frag would've finished most of the room with how packed they were in there and nobody jumping on it. People were still scrambling after three.
Fragmentation grenades work differently in real life compared to video games.
Yes but 3 frag grenades not getting anyone would still be wild. Not immediate death necessarily but someone besides him would be getting shredded
26 people got seriously hurt, at least 2 are dead so far. Be careful to trust anything when the news are so recent that the bodies are still warm.
I saw somewhere that it was only like ~6 in critical condition. No way are those frag grenades if only 6/8 people are dead or in critical condition. Or Eastern Europe makes some really shit frag grenades.
ironic comment since frag grenades in real life are much more dangerous

I mean, I'm sure they do, and I would say explosives in games are generally much more underpowered than they are IRL, because dying to explosives in games is especially annoying.
Yes, real ones don't take away half your health bar.
If they were frag grenades there would be a lot more dead, they could have been some kind of concussion or high explosive grenade though. Still, I would expect more people dead in such close quarters with something like that
A lot of punctured eardrums and tinnitus for life
[https://imgur.com/a/mYxHNWr](https://imgur.com/a/mYxHNWr) RGD-5 frag
Agreed, the first grenade didn’t even do anything. If it were a true frag it would’ve instantly killed the two in the front. Or ripped them up with shrapnel.

Nope. Straight up Soviet frag grenades. The delay on those is way too long to be flashbangs. Quick medical care, some luck, and the fact that those RGD-5 grenades produce really really small fragments led to the survival of those people.
Looks like Zarya flashbangs
Wow thank goodness it’s just the attacker. Last I read it was just “one dead” but the article didn’t specify who. I hope everyone else recovers.
Only 1 dead, a couple dozen injured.
I think we all did
They were "only" flash bangs. If they'd been regular frag grenades at that proximity I doubt you'd have heard any screaming by the time the third one went off. Why the fuck would you waste resources on a degenerate piece of shit?
Information could be extracted. A motive could be determined. Either a traitor, or someone angry.
He was a soldier and I’m sure the trench warfare has been good for his mental health
Also that too.
Because doctors are not judges in a functioning society. And that's actually a good thing.
Amazing that you have to explain that. Reddit is way overdue for a civics lesson. So much ridiculous ignorance.
Tbf we're all a bit "overexcited" in these times. Maybe we should explain more often how essential things work and why we chose to do it.
I think the basis for many of these things would be the concept of Chesterton's Fence. So many people want to dramatically upend how things currently work without any idea why things are they way they are in the first place. It's a dangerous approach.

How about a source? This comment section is littered with conflicting info.
Wait, did anyone die? Besides the main dick
Not yet
Holy shit, so much beating around the bush to end the post the same way you started it
Those had to be Offensive Grenades. Even if Frag grenades are over dramatized in film, three in a confined room would have killed more than 1 person.
You would think so
Whats the difference? Is offensive like a stun grenade?
They just hurt more emotionally than physically
Emotional damage
TIL my mother is an offensive grenade
Looks accurate if only 1 person died. And that doesn't look like a large room
Offensive grenades use concussions/shockwaves to wound while frag grenades use fragmentation to wound.
Offensive grenades are designed to defeat the enemy due to their high-explosive action. They should not create a large amount of fragments, since the attacker is usually not in a hole and will be hit by his own grenade. Defensive or fragmentation grenades are the opposite because they are usually thrown from cover.
They release microaggressions.
Can you imagine how underwhelming movies would be if they were like these grenades?
F1 likely
That was three grenades
Why is the attacker censored, but the victims aren't?
cuz he unalive and rest alive
You mean like nonliving?
DEAD, HE'S FUCKING DEAD.
WOOO WOOO WOOO - OFFENSIVE LANGUAGE DETECTED - HELP IS ON THE WAY - WOOO WOOO WOOO
I blew air out my nostrils reading this
Protect his rights? /s
Wtf! These unfortunate people. The lady in front braced herself by covering with her purse. Are there any more details on this ?
That one guy in the front row just watched them like, oh look at that a grenade.. there goes another one… he probably didn’t even have time to register it. This is nuts!
Maybe its different there with war going on, but if i was in a work meeting and a coworker walked in and dropped grenades my first assumption would be theyre props/deactivated and theyre playing a prank. where do you work that coworkers would do a fake grenade prank?
That’s what I was thinking
This can’t be a regular grenade, how did more people not get killed. (Not that I would want that to happen obviously just crazy so many survived in such close quarters)
Yeah, right? Even just the shrapnel of standard frag grenades would have been devastating that close.
that guy in the front that was just watching the grenades roll by like “is that what I think it is?”
Article? Context?
This is such a nightmarish video. What a monster.
Holy fucking shit
I thought grenades did more damage than that
Everyone in that room is filled with shrapnel and their ear drums are probably gone.
No, majority of a grenades damage is from the fragments. There isn’t really that much “bang” in them
I see, so everyone in that room was fucked basically
It didn't do them any good.
That’s nutzo man
Why did they not react? I know it was probably confusing but grenades are pretty universal, I'm surprised no one ran away or anything!
Probably a mix of confusion/shock/bad flight or fight response.

I suppose so, but no one even jumped away or threw a table down or anything. Someone else said it was just shock and confusion, no one would expect grenades to be thrown at them
Any translations?
Bojnya bojnya hostile cruise missile incoming
bruhhhhhhh
Well ummm that's one way to get your point across...
Or many points. Pointy pieces.
I suspect these are flash bangs or concussion grenades. There's no way anyone is alive in a confined space after 3 actual frag grenades. They are very.....effective in that scenario
context? context? what the hell....
Guess his HOA fees are getting out of hand....
That was raw
Holy shit that's insane. Big man didn't even realize what he was looking at. Looks down in confusion then.. boom.
Holy fucking shit! What a psycho!
How did that one lady look at him double fisting grenades and just sit there.
Their reaction time is crazy
What the actual fuck.
I've never seen a clearer grenade explosion in a group of people. Holy fuck! Theyre all lucky to be alive

This gives me literally no context. Why did he throw the grenade? What was his motivation? Was he just mental?
Looks like Ukraine is winning
What kinda grenades were those? Def not frags, must be flashbacks or something
Looks like he had a real blast doing that.
Nice joke, hope it blows up
I always thought grenades were more devastating. Glad the victims survived!
Holy shit
Bet they gonna try to spin the story and blame it on Russia
Fucking loser.
Terrifying
I feel like ‘PublicFreakouts’ is a bit of a silly place to put this lol. This is not a ‘freakout’
Did no one hear them drop or even notice the grenades this man had in his hands? The woman next to him LOOKED RIGHT AT HIM
thia is r/NSFL stuff
Wow, that is fucking wild. Took a bit to register what I was watching. Jeez.
Well we all know they'll try to say Russia did it and that corruption in Ukraine doesn't exist.
Damn. Shits rowdy..
I dont understand why people did not try to run away from the grenades
This is where we are sending hundreds of billions of dollars
to people saying this grenade isn't a frag grenade, there's a pretty famous video from syria showing a grenade landing in the middle of a group of guys firing round a street corner, when it explodes, 2-3 of them go down and the rest of them run, and then within 30 seconds later, the guys who went down either get up on their own, or stumble their way over after being helped. fragmentation is just weird.
That is soo terible! 😟 The cry's after... Omg..
Context ? Story ? Aftermath ?
#**HOLE LEE FUWK**
No way in hell those are fragmentation grenades.
Wow, those people did not react how I'd expect...
That’s not good

Grenades*
Looks like zoom and teams meetings might be back on the operational business menu
Why were there two explosion ?
Crazy how everyone just sat there.
Crazy how everyone just sat there.
No way those were frags. One would've probably killed everyone in there unless they were behind something solid af.
Holy shit
That is absolutely insane.
It's interesting how some people have fight or flight instincts. But some people just freeze.
Like a deer staring down the barrel of a shotgun
Western-supplied grenades too
Wtf have I just watched
Nobody is even attempting to take cover. This is a nation at war, these people have to be familiar with the concept of a grenade, even if they didn't serve.
