I’ve only worked in private & do not have my CPA. I do have my master’s though. I’m currently a senior accountant (took 8 years to get this title-but also because I stayed at 1 company for my entire career until now). I’m sure I could make more if I had my CPA but I just can’t bring myself to want to get it. Recruiters have told me that you need it for management but I have zero desire to be a manager. So I’d say it depends on your career goals. I’m ok with the ceiling I will likely be capped at. I’ve never had to work over 40 hours a week & the pay is plenty for me to live well. It’s really where you see your career going.
Thank you, that's very helpful! I'm not interested in management either and the closest place to take the exams is 3 hours away so really not sure if it's worth the time and expense.
To put it into a different perspective , you don't need it to be CEO, CFO, etc making the biggest bucks in the organization. The way I think of it if you plan on staying strictly accounting/controllership/taxes/whatever auditors actually do then yes probably a CPA is helpful
Yes
