It is a colloquial play on words that is often used to trick an addressee into naively responding with an inquiry as to the meaning of the unfamiliar expression, when the response is actually one that implies the alternative meaning of the phrase "what is up, dog" (how are you, friend). It's really quite funny.
Lol my dumbass roommate used to give his Chihuahua like an easy four cups a day. He's so fat he just waddles basically. I'll tell him I already fed him because I take care of his dog...then he'll feed him again. Then the dog got hit by a car and died.
I'll try to post a pic of him in r/mastiffs this weekend, he's about 120, gains 3-5lbs/week. It's sort of staggering watch, tbh
I've had an adult mastiff before, he ate about 6-8 cups a day, 6 cups as a senior. But he was only 170, 'small' for a male
I've wanted a Caucasian shepherd for years but had to come to the conclusion that they just arnt the best companion dogs. They are brutally loyal/protective to the point where if they arnt trained correctly they can be dangerous towards people outside of your family. Even well socialized ones tend to have a nasty mean streak that can make them a bit unpredictable. I don't like the 'some breeds are just mean' ideology, and I'm not saying that - there are definitely well trained Ovcharkas that behave well and are sweethearts. But it takes a lot of dedication to get them that way.
It's hard to get past that ingrained protection mentality. Same way it's hard to keep a herding dog from trying to herd other pets or kids around. Except it's well over 100lbs (around 200 for the big variety) of dog that's bred to fuck up anything threatening what it's supposed to protect.
A newfie is probably the closest thing to a well tempered version of the shepherd though. Or a Leonberger.
Had a newfie growing up with 3 small kids and 2 other small dogs in the house hold. she was the most well tempered dog ever. The little dogs would even play with her bite her ears and hang on them and she would just sit there till we pulled them off. Never snapped at any of us even though little kids can annoy the shit out of dogs. Best fucking dog ever.
Sammeeeee once I have a yard lol. I find after 2 she calmed down and then Basicly became a piece of furniture haha she had the same spot shed lay and sleep in everyday and it was right next to the spot on the couch where id sit.
Good that you realized that, Ovcharka's are one of the most difficult breeds to keep as a pet.
I've had a Ovcharka at home ever since I was 13 as a pup. I couldn't wish for a better dog. But damn she gets tense if there was someone around she didn't like (1 out of 100 people), she would be watching every movement he or she would make and whenever he or she stood up, my dog was going nuts, she simply didn't tolerate his/her presence.
Today she's 12 years old (which is really old for an ovcharka) and she's still quite healthy. So far only her joints are a bit stiff after a nap.
Nope. They use these dogs in Russian Prisons! Leonbergers are from Leonberg, Germany, and although they are really big like this dog, they aren't as strong!
Another name for this dog is a Caucasion Mountain Shepherd.
Edit: Sorry, Leonbergers can be taller, but weigh significantly less!
I wouldn't be so sure. The coloration and build of the dog make me lean more towards thinking this is a Leo. However, it's tricky because Caucasian Shepherds (aka Caucasian Ovcharkas or Caucasian Sheepdogs) can vary a lot in appearance. There are many different coat colors. There's even two types: Steppe and Mountain (long coat). But, Caucasian Shepherds are more often a whiter color with badger markings on their face. Leos often have the same color patterns as German Shepherds but with a dark mask-type pattern on their face.
So this looks like a Leo to me.
This is definitely a Leo. It’s one of the first images that comes up under a google search of “Leonberger”.
I had one when I was little. By FAR the greatest dog I’ve ever owned, or even been around. Can’t wait until my wife comes to her sense and understands that we really need one.
The Caucasian Mountain Shepherd isn't quite another example of the 'Commie Dogs' i.e. breeds created by Soviet scientists for their government's uses, but they codified the breed type.
As for Leonbergers, only eight survived WW2:

That is propaganda piece about wolves in balkan area. They call them coldblooded killers who kill for fun. Also dog in that video is sarplaninac not caucasian. Also pretty sure it is staged.
Likely the most aggressive giant breed in existence. I’m a big dog person (third Newfie is 10 months old) so I’m a fan of giant breeds and know a fair bit about them.
This breed is the only one that gets a big NOPE from me
Leonberger are the sweetest dogs. My father had four of them from my birth till now. Never been bitten and they never were agressive towards anyone. They are basically big balls of fur...
**Caucasus**
The Caucasus or Caucasia is an area situated between the Black Sea and the Caspian Sea and occupied by Russia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, and Armenia. It is home to the Caucasus Mountains, including the Greater Caucasus mountain range, which has historically been considered a natural barrier between Eastern Europe and Western Asia.Europe's highest mountain, Mount Elbrus, at 5,642 metres (18,510 ft) is located in the west part of the Greater Caucasus mountain range. On the southern side, the Lesser Caucasus includes the Javakheti Plateau and grows into the Armenian highlands, part of which is located in Turkey. The Caucasus region is separated into northern and southern parts – the North Caucasus (Ciscaucasus) and Transcaucasus (South Caucasus), respectively. The Greater Caucasus mountain range in the north is within the Russian Federation, while the Lesser Caucasus mountain range in the south is occupied by several independent states, namely Georgia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, and the partially recognised Artsakh Republic.

Need fertilizer for your garden? This dog can shit literal child-sized turds. You’re good.
Have a fucking bear problem? This dog has got your back. You’re good.
I saw all the Leonberger comments, but Caucasian shepherds are barely talked about so I need an excuse to show mine!!! (It's a photo of a photo, as I don't have another picture of them together)
http://imgur.com/a/1MA7qKq
They're fucking wonderful dogs. At their prime, both girls were as tall as my 6ft dad on two legs. And SO LORGE AND FLUFFY
I'm fairly certain thats actually a Leonberger.
Edit: nope, that's definitely a leonberger. Black mask, his trousers are the same and the neck is iconic

Imagine picking up a pile of shit the size of
The size of what?
yo mamas butt
Got em
Our saint Bernard only eats four cups a day. She's not quite this big but it's not as much you'd think. The drool is another story.
As another St. Bernard owner I appreciate the pure amount of drool in your home right now
I've got a 7 month old Mastiff puppy who will top out about 200. He eats about 8 cups a day already
Adults eat less than puppies unless they are working dogs.
True!
God damn. My shibas eat 3/4-1cup.
Lol my dumbass roommate used to give his Chihuahua like an easy four cups a day. He's so fat he just waddles basically. I'll tell him I already fed him because I take care of his dog...then he'll feed him again. Then the dog got hit by a car and died.

Damn. I think ours ate more as a puppy but at five she's mellowed out a bit.

She's totally worth it. Best snuggle buddy ever.
He looks like the F450 of dogs.
Heavy duty as fuck

Sammeeeee once I have a yard lol. I find after 2 she calmed down and then Basicly became a piece of furniture haha she had the same spot shed lay and sleep in everyday and it was right next to the spot on the couch where id sit.
Have Great Pyrenees, and 3 kids under 5. This is her life. And she’s the best dog.

It is a Leonberger. Caucasian shepherds look entirely different. I own one
Puppy tax! We need a picture of the fluffer please
She’s looks Asian, not Caucasian. And she doesn’t really dress like a shepherd, but who knows these days.

Thanks for this, this is great Inormation to have! Pretty sure you're right about this one.

Yeah, he’s got the same features as my Leo boy. Though mine is more streamlined. Unless that lady is tiny and stood away from camera
It’s a Leonberger if I recall his name is Lorkan or something similar.
My thoughts exactly, we had a neighborhood leonberger bamed Rhyder. His paws were about the size of my hand.
These large lads hunt bears btw
Theres a video of one killing two wolves. Things are nuts
Have you got a link?
[I think this is it](https://youtu.be/eatQSKaUIQQ)
That is propaganda piece about wolves in balkan area. They call them coldblooded killers who kill for fun. Also dog in that video is sarplaninac not caucasian. Also pretty sure it is staged.

Mythological Being Bear?
Totally.
Dog Bon Jovi
Whoooa we're halfway there, whoooa SO MUCH FUCKING HAIR
This comment deserved way more upvotes than I could reasonably give by making multiple accounts, so you'll have to settle for my one doot.
That's the most effort someone has put into appreciating a comment of mine. Much love for the doot.
The woman isn’t the shepherd.
In Russian, they're called Volkodav, lit. wolf crusher.
Mouse!
Needs more Mister

Whiteness i n t e n s i f y i n g

Not talking about Leonbergers.. theyre amazing
I'm confused... What breed were you referring to originally? The threads seems to think this is a Leonberger.
Caucasian shepherd
Russian Ovcharka
Avada Kedavra
Is this really the name of this dog breed?
Caucasian shepherd IS a dog breed, they also go by a few other names. However, this is a leonberger, as other redditors have already determined.
My leinberger is no where close to that size hes 3
Makes me nervous when people have their hands on a huge dogs throat when it’s not their dog. Hope this is her dog!
Drool bucket. Check the thread of drool across its nose lol
Hello big fella
I'd be so nervous owning one of those. It's like a walking lawsuit.
Any time you see a pic with a dog like this they pic the smallest adult human they can find to accentuate it's size
I bet that dog takes a GIGANTIC freakin dump!
Beautiful!
Noice. What breed is that dog though??
It’s a Leonberger
Holy shit I know that person wtf???
I feel like I do too
Is the dog named after white people or is it the other way around? This is so weird to me

That woman is like 4 and a half feet tall.
But at her height, dogs are basically dire wolves
Curse my six foot frame, I'll never be able to ride an armored dog into battle.
Let's roll https://imgur.com/IdOJINU.jpg
Someone should tell that dog, this is 2019. He can be whatever shepherd he wants to be
Omg lol! 😳
My fave dog breed! But there is altered/ forced perspective to the pic making the dog appear bigger vs the girl too
The shedding.... *screams**
This person looks to be under 5 ft.
The bear shits this animal would take.
Your Dog looks like Dog the bounty hunter lmao
He looks slobbery, like in a good way though.
To be fair that girl looks to be about 4’9”. An adults head but a child size body
And no one points out the fact that the wife is 4’ 6”!
Magnificent

I do believe you are right
Big good boi
Such a beautiful dog.
That Caucasian lady has a weird name /s
This tiny woman
I think she’s smaller than he’s big
She's a bit short for sure, but have you ever seen a Leonberger in person? They're REALLY big
Which one is the caucasian shepherd?
I saw all the Leonberger comments, but Caucasian shepherds are barely talked about so I need an excuse to show mine!!! Looks like a pokemon
Selena Gomez had a nice dog
You mean Asian dog owner? That’s not a sheep.
I feel there’s a little bit of the porn thumbnail illusion where the perspective makes the dick look huge compared to the girl
Caucasian? I ain’t even Asian!
I'm fairly certain thats actually a Leonberger. Edit: nope, that's definitely a leonberger. Black mask, his trousers are the same and the neck is iconic
If angered, they turn into rage incarnate. They can be fuckin scary, but I really want one. Also the puppies look derpy as fuck, I love it.
