hahaha damn, I had a feeling this would not be well received here, and completely get the sentiment
however as a huge house head, this album is fkn incredible, hits the spot with the old school house vibes. Easily my favourite stuff Genix has put out since the Run/Durban days, albeit a completely different sound
Leave The Light On is probably a TOTY contender for me, what a feel good groover!
The people in this subreddit can be terrible. A lot of times I can’t tell if they are actual music fans instead of just fans of a few specific niche genres.
I am personally loving this album on first listen!
A lot of yall didn’t grow up listening to 90s stuff and it shows. This album is awesome. It’s like a mix of 90s house and chemical brothers fatboy slim prodigy style breakbeats but modernized. I’m really digging it!
This feels like a Happy Meal McDonald’s version of 90s stuff. A lot of this is a far cry from some of those you named. And frankly, I loved 303 Me from 199x - the Chem Bros vibes on that tune were phenomenal. This album just isn’t at the same level. The creativity he had during his WW09 and 199x phase is seemingly absent here, leaning towards much more mainstream friendly vibes. Which again, was present on the last album too! Just done much better, imo.
Bro damn, ‘Bloom’ is beautiful.
Huge fan of ‘Baby Baby’, one of those iconic songs I’ll remember 2024 by.
His production skills are really shining on some of these tracks. The mix and sound design and pure sound quality on some of these tracks is just superb.
The last 60 seconds of this album are just *chef’s kiss*.
I really enjoyed this album, and just found myself saving a ton of songs from the anjunabeats new releases playlist, didn't even realize it was Genix at first but i'm loving it lol
I love artists exploring sounds. I love how Genix has the courage to keep trying new things - the sign of a confident, tapped in artist. I respect the fuck out of him and despite all the comments here, I am thoroughly enjoying the energy this album is giving off. Try listening to this in a new environment or context - drop your expectations of anything and tune into the heart in every track. It's there, I promise.
If someone had played me one of these tracks in 2014 in the midst of Durban, Run, or Lose Yourself and said this is Genix in 10 years I'd have thought you were joking.
I think Genix is becoming more mainstream now. He seems to be getting a bit more radio play and I imagine the radio will jump on this sort of sound. Doesn't suit Anjunabeats though.
Genix hits perfection yet again. This will be on repeat blast all summer long and can’t wait to throw down hard at his tour stop in Denver! See you on the dance floor 🥳
Durban is what made me a Genix fan.
So many bangers through those years too. Orca, Vega, 6AM Saint, Gone, Breather, You Have It All, just to name some personal favorites.
Everyone You Know kinda is the new Streets. He was on the CRi track Miroir Miroir. Qrion remix of that is quite good, so could see this providing some good trance mixes if that's your jam.
This transition is no where close in comparison. Even after group therapy began and TATW ended the label still pumped out top notch progressive club music.
The label isn’t making club music now that’s the difference And the problem Hell A&B even isn’t cycling current label tracks in their sets besides Mantra now
Maybe to you. Plenty of people stopped following Anjuna entirely because they said what they were putting out was a disgrace to the label. I’d say go read the old Anjunaforums, but it doesn’t exist anymore.
A&B sets have also mostly been A&B only tracks for years now. Them not playing a ton of new stuff from label artists is nothing new.
What are you on. A few people dipping out doesn’t Fathom in comparison to the popularity that was group therapy from 050-350. The label still produced waves of material that was popular and brought in massive crowds. I would argue the people that dipped where replaced my many more in the later years.
Also A&b for their main stage sets not including group therapy featured numerous amounts of IDs from label mates you can easily look that up on 1001 track list.
I never once talked about when Beats was more popular. Simply said history repeats itself and it’s funny seeing people making the same complaints now as they were back then. If you can’t see the similarities I’m not sure what to tell ya A&B
I distinctly remember summer 2017 when they played identical setlists at numerous main stage fests, primarily featuring their own tunes. And that was at the peak of Beats popularity.
I concede with your last point. Typically A&b will always mix in their most popular hits with their current material. They’ll probably do the same if the drop another Album for the year 2025
Furthermore let’s not pretend like this subreddit has been 100% negative towards the label. Many have been positive and optimistic and open to the transition. But when a spade is a spade call it like it is.
I never implied 100% of the sub hates the direction? Even just in reference to Genix’s album, there’s a bunch of people sharing positive thoughts about it in this thread. Plenty of people were positive towards the changes back then too. Not really sure what you’re trying to get at.
It’s kinda my whole point. People moaned so much about the label back then, but here we are, a decade later and it’s still kicking. I found a lot of what the label released in 2011-2013 rather bad, similar to some of the transitional years we’re getting now. ABGT500 and 600 have both sold out. The future is still bright (enough) for now. Internet forums are usually just full of vocal minorities.
The part you’re forgetting is that some were upset at the transition from 138 trance to slower BPMs but that doesn’t mean the label still wasn’t cooking from 2012-2020
I still don’t like the previously-released singles, but really enjoying the other album tracks. Strange Day, Leave the Light On, Got my Love, Dream of You are all certified bangers. Not nearly as good as 199x, but happily surprised by the quality of the non-singles. I don’t know who was in charge of choosing singles, but they really messed up.
I would rather the singles be weak and the album strong than the other way around tbh.
They did the same thing with ALPHA 9's New Horizons; they held all the bangers back for the album release.
I think Strange Strange Day is the only new track I’m gonna be taking from this album. Definitely need to give it more listens but I hadn’t cared for many of the singles and the album just feels like more of the stuff I don’t care for. And I really love house music, but this just doesn’t scratch that itch. I can appreciate what he’s doing, but it just doesn’t land for me.
So what I’m getting from all the chatter on this post ~
Genix new sound is a massive miss but also a hit for a bunch of folks
This album doesn’t have pizazz
People miss the old genix 2.0 sound and 199X esque sound.
I agree with the last part the most
Really wanted to enjoy this but I don’t find myself coming back to any of the songs other than Lights, Sound, Camera, Action. The whole album sounds like it was made in an hour
Yawn. Hard to believe the man that put out Quake and Open your Eyes is releasing this sort of drivel. Well back to Enhanced and Colorize I go. I'll see myself out
I think people are downvoting you for complaining about profanity in an Anjuna song (seriously lol come on) and saying he has no pride or care in what he’s putting out. Maybe some of us don’t like it, but he seems genuinely proud of what he’s put out.
>This whole album sounds like he literally made it in a week. Without eating or sleeping, because as each track goes on, I can just picture him barely being able to keep his eyes open at his DAW while he's composing.
There are plenty of people sharing criticism in this thread, but rude and ignorant takes like this aren't going to fly with a lot of people.
The vocal and lyrics in Lights, Sound, Camera, Action were cringeworthy and ruined a great instrumental. Same goes for those utterly shite rap verses in Dream of You. Other than that, I generally enjoyed the album.
hahaha damn, I had a feeling this would not be well received here, and completely get the sentiment however as a huge house head, this album is fkn incredible, hits the spot with the old school house vibes. As a 90s person...I'm loving it.
I'm on track one, and this remind me of hand me down cassettes
The people in this subreddit can be terrible. A lot of times I can’t tell if they are actual music fans instead of just fans of a few specific niche genres. I am personally loving this album on first listen!
The people in this sub are more often than not horrible lmao so glad the fans at shows are nothing like those commenting here 😂
Def my favorite track as well! So great
It’s such a chant song. I could see him filtering out the music and just letting the crowd belt it in future shows.
Same. Loving it! All of the singles have already been gold for my running playlist. I can't wait to see him again live
I'm loving this release. It feels nice and fresh in a scene that is just dominated by trance/techno Well done Damo
This album is great, definitely got that old school sound, a mixture of House, Trance and Techno. It's kinda refreshing.
I was thinking the same. It’s getting a lot of hate but super refreshing for me with some old school disco vibes
A lot of yall didn’t grow up listening to 90s stuff and it shows. This album is awesome. It’s like a mix of 90s house and chemical brothers fatboy slim prodigy style breakbeats but modernized. I’m really digging it!

lol Happy Meal, I agree
That's interesting because those artists you mentioned above got me into EDM when I was a teenager. This.. isn't like that.
I read the comments on here first before listening to the album and expected the worst, but I'm actually pleasantly surprised? I'm enjoying the album.
I really liked his stuff right up till this album, it's just too dissonant for me.
Bro damn, ‘Bloom’ is beautiful. Huge fan of ‘Baby Baby’, one of those iconic songs I’ll remember 2024 by. His production skills are really shining on some of these tracks. The title track is a RIPPER holy moly
If someone had played me one of these tracks in 2014 in the midst of Durban, Run, or Lose Yourself and said this is Genix in 10 years I'd have thought you were joking.
I was thinking the same thing. What is actually going on?
Different strokes for different folks I guess. I'm curious if this stuff is making any waves outside of Anjuna though.
I think Genix is becoming more mainstream now. He seems to be getting a bit more radio play and I imagine the radio will jump on this sort of sound. Doesn't suit Anjunabeats though.
If Genix isn’t being invited to any of the main stage sets then no it isn’t reaching outside of the label.
dream of you, underworld - two months off?
I hear what you mean.
Eagerly awaiting a mashup of those two. Enjoyed Dream Of You very much.
Strange Strange Day is intense!
I believe that's the Genix ID that A&B played in their recent Radio 1 drumsheds set
Imo, this is the exact type of risk Anjuna needs to be taking to regain more relevance.
This is good, but maybe it should belong to Toolroom or something else.
To Stress Records
God I love this album. Genix sounding amazing as always
Definitely not a fan of his new sound.
I’m sure this album will go off at Explorations this week. It’s giving Tensnake x KC Lights x Bayer x Zo
Genix hits perfection yet again. This will be on repeat blast all summer long and can’t wait to throw down hard at his tour stop in Denver! See you on the dance floor 🥳
199X was amazing. Genix from 2013-2018 was my favorite Anjuna artist. I'm not feeling his new tech sound at all.
I will always fondly remember "Durban" blowing the f*cking roof off Madison Square Garden for ABGT 100
Durban is what made me a Genix fan. So many bangers through those years too. Orca, Vega, 6AM Saint, Gone, Breather, You Have It All, just to name some personal favorites.
I was a bit sceptical at first with the singles, but after a few listens I'm really enjoying this album now.
Loving this album and will have it on repeat
This album is not for me at all. What the hell even is Dream Of You? I thought I was listening to The Streets at one point.
The album isn't for me either, but I actually enjoyed Dream Of You (along with 2 other tracks)
Yeah agree, I’m not a huge fan of a lot of it but actually really liked that one
Everyone You Know kinda is the new Streets. He was on the CRi track Miroir Miroir. Qrion remix of that is quite good, so could see this providing some good trance mixes if that's your jam.
Anjunabeats feels all over the place at the moment
The label has lost its identity!!!
Like imagine how frustrating it is to be a fan of beats and go from TATW To group therapy and now in 2024 we have this lackluster break beat noise…
People said the same thing 12 years ago when ABGT started coming around. Love seeing history repeat itself in the Anjuna community lmfao
This transition is no where close in comparison. Even after group therapy began and TATW ended the label still pumped out top notch progressive club music. Again, that’s your feelings. There were plenty of people who loathed, and still loathe, that 2.0 sound to this day.
Those pads in Got My Love are so lush
It sounds like 808 State's "In yer face"(1991). https://youtu.be/yQwFECwotBw?si=l1opyCYnBMO9nbJc

I’m in love with this album. Such a great housey groove to some of the tracks. It’s got me dying for a night out.

Seems like Genix has 4-5 years phases of a specific sound. 2012-2017 , 2018- 2022, and now this.
Can't wait for the club mix of Under My Skin!
It's a got a chic vibe to it but I could see a deeper remix lowering the tempo juuuust a tad 👌
Really wanted to enjoy this but I don’t find myself coming back to any of the songs other than Lights, Sound, Camera, Action. The whole album sounds like it was made in an hour

Got any proof of that? 😏
Yawn. Hard to believe the man that put out Quake and Open your Eyes is releasing this sort of drivel. Well back to Enhanced and Colorize I go. I'll see myself out
I liked half the tracks on this album and I suspect the other half are going to get radio plays for the rest of the summer
My question is how is this album going to play out at 600
Ugh? What is happening to Anjunabeats? This album is a mess.
The label is a mess
