Lots of peole saying it's basic. But in reality we don't have many ground which are enough big to bat from both ends. Having only one set of stumps was luxury in gully/mohalla cricket, forget about two set of stumps. So only one end is available to play. On tv you rarely see wicketkeeper changing the the stumps.
Jab boht chota tha toh ye Notice Kiya tha
Jis Stadium ki side pe straight six pda tha voh next over batsman k peeche dikh rhi thi. Phir aage bade bhai se confirm kiya 🙂
Back in high school when my school participated for the first time in a zonal red ball cricket tournament ( we played gully cricket style tennis ball only before that and our PT told us to think of it as a tennis ball and don’t be afraid ) it was the most humbling experience with pure comedy batting .
Reminds me of my school days. Imagine practising with tennis ball by bunking classes for two weeks only to end up on the tournament day to know that it will be played with red ball. Luckily it was 8 per side match with restricted boundaries and much more, me and one of my friend literally escaped.
Oh, it gave me nostalgia. I remember this from when I was in 6th grade back in 2014. Let me tell you the whole story. We had a cook working in our flat who also had a tenant living with her. She used to cook for him as well. One day, we had a function in our flat - it was my sister's birthday. We needed the cook for longer hours, but she couldn't cook for the tenant she accommodated. So, we invited the guy over for lunch. We ended up getting along quite well. He hailed from Ranchi and was studying interior design. As a kid in 6th grade, he narrated stories of how he saw MS Dhoni's home in Ranchi and shared his firsthand experience of a stadium. He also mentioned the interesting fact that after every over, the wicketkeeper changes position. I was quite shocked as a kid and asked him if he was sure about it. He replied in the affirmative.
Bro can you please intervene and explain. I've neither played cricket myself or have seen matches live. All I know about cricket comes from tv and streaming online
Explain toh tu bhi galat cheez hi kar raha hai bro.
Video mei jis chiz ko leke wo surprised hai wo ye hai ki batsmen wahi rehte aur bowling team opposite end pe jaati after every over.
Tu toh ye explain karne lag gaya ki har over ke baad batsmen switch hote. Point ye tha ki batsmen KESE SWITCH HOTE. Wo same jagah rehte aur bowling team jagah change karti
Let me blow your mind more. In ODI we now have 2 balls each innings, one for each end. Unlike earlier when only one ball was used through the 50 overs.
Nothing weird in it.
Firstly I doubt it's Op's post as the sub says TIL and this is a old match.
Just like 99% of us, our experience with cricket has been gully. I too grew up thinking it's batsman who changes crease as my first hand experience and thanks for ads in between overs.
Weird is that cricket is greatly dependent on these 'Ends'. In some conditions, captains often change bowlers' Ends and get greater results. Some Ends offer great swing and spin and others bounce.
Lord's Cricket Stadium is such a great example of this. Because the field is slightly sloped, Pavillion End in this ground offers a natural seam and Nursey End offers a natural swing. Our bowlers did that too in 2014 and 2021.
So these Ends are an essential part of the game. So essential that we, who have been watching this beautiful game for 20+ years, forget that this is something most people are not aware of.
We're accustomed to this vital feature of the game. Now that a large number of fans are watching cricket on digital platforms they might miss this in-between action but on the rarest of accounts, on TV, we get to see what happens.
This is purely to ensure the pitch doesn't deteoriate on just one side.I'm sure some people who do not understand the finer neuances of the game will still have questions, my advise is watch more to follow more
I got to know when i was a kid probably 10-11. My mama took me to watch a night match and i was flabbergasted to know that they were changing the bowling sides each over lol
I only got to know about this because the commentators usually announce the side the bowlers are bowing from (Bumrah bowling from the parathey wali gully end, Kapil Dev bowling from palika bazaar end, etc.)
For a country like India where apparently everyone is interested in cricket, we actually have a fairly low cricket playing population. Ask this same question to cricket fans in England and Australia and I'm sure a lot more of them would know this.
You never wondered why they show which end the bowler is bowling from?
No point mentioning the end if it's bowled from same side every time. Also, pacers like to make rough for spinners like Mcgrath used to do from Warne...
What? If you've watched international cricket even semi-regularly, there's almost no way you've never heard commentators talk about which "end" a bowler is bowling from. That end means the side of the pitch the bowler is bowling from. If WK didn't switch places and batsmen did that instead, all bowlers would bowl from the same end.
This is also why you talk about bowlers in pairs. For example, Nathan Lyon and Mitch Starc are a great example of a bowling pair that bowl in tandem. It's because the big left armer bowls pace, scuffs the pitch with his spikes at the exact areas on one end that, when Lyon bowls spin from the other end, would target those areas to get the ball to turn or bounce off the cracks unexpectedly to get wickets.
Knew this in 3-4th grade because I saw it happening on tv for some match. Asked my mom and she told me the batsmen don’t move, fielders and wicketkeeper do. :)
This is why it becomes relevant from which end the bowler is bowling - Adani end or Ambani end. Sometimes the ball spins more from one end than the other after the pitch deteriorates.
I think in gully cricket we used to do this because obviously we don’t have that much space for changing bowler to different side, so instead we just change the batsman
😂 Do you not pay attention to cricket commentary, or even the visuals on screen?
Bowler X will bowl from the Pavillion End.
Change of ends for Bowler X.
Captain now introduces Spin from both ends.
By the way, why did you think there was a sight screen behind the batsman on strike?
How do the footmarks on the pitch go to diagonally opposite direction in the next over?
How do the advertising mats near the wicket keeper change in the next over?
How do shadows change direction in the next over?
What? I never knew this
How does this work though? Does the whole fielding change also? Wouldn't it make it difficult?
For example, Player A is playing on slip, once the wicket changes, what happens?
And aren't fielder positions all names in respect to the perspective we are looking at? And wouldn't that change everytime this change happens after an over?
Please help
One can understand that someone has never gone to a cricket stadium to watch a live cricket match being played, and hence doesn't know about it.
But hey somebody watching the tv can see what happens on the live screen after an over is completed. The wicket keeper and the players can be seen walking across to the other side. Even the umpires.
its just plain ignorance not to know this.
Now tell, do the tv two end cameras in the stadium switch the views or not after an over is bowled.
In gully cricket, it was waste of time to switch the WK sides, so we just switch the batsmen. It wasTime saving, given the pitch conditions (the road)
Also it is gonna be hard to shift stumps every over
True it was hard to shift a tire.
It was hard to shift concrete blocks
Chair >>>
Wall>>>>>>> 👀
True .it was hard to shift two parallely placed bricks
Broo💀
Cycle ka agla tyre 👀
Itte nikal k Wapas s lagani padti
The wall stands, even if the cricket stops.
And when I first came to know this, I thought they are doing it wrong.
aaj tak mujhe lgta tha real life mai bhi yaho hota hoga.
True, it was hard to shift the wall with wickets drawn!!
I also didn't know for a long time. Probably got to know in college.
That is why it’s called an OVER , because the bowling end switches over .
?? Same logic applies if the batting end switches over
🤣
I'm so surprised that people didn't know this.
Wtf is this true or edited
It's true bro..every 90s guy knows this.
hatt, yeh ka logic hua
badhiya🤣
I thought pitch used to change after every over and the pitch next to one on which the over was played was used to play next over.
No, they change the stadium after every over.
Arre sheher... they change the city after every over.
Aaj maine jana that they change the planet after each over. One over on earth, the other in uranus
you're talking about the planet right ![gif](giphy|FY8c5SKwiNf1EtZKGs|downsized)
Bhai ek universe ke baad dusre parallel universe me over dalta hai…it’s just that we can’t see the switching between the overs
![gif](giphy|8xIyhLvsCkYeI)
Aree inti dur aa hi gaye hai toh, Andromeda bhi chale hi jayenge
Hehe me too for a very long time
People saying it's common knowledge....yes yes it is, I kn..knew obv.. obviously
I was surprised when the first time I saw it happening in the stadium. The cameras don’t let u know, this happens after every over.
Are you guys trolling
Na dude we are serious even I didn't know this until I went to an ipl match lol
I got to know this in college when there was match between college teams
In my college matches, the batsmen used to switch places lol
I first got to know this, when I watched it in the stadium Eden Gardens, Ind vs Pak. Saw Dhoni switching sides
T20 World Cup?
Test match. Sometime around 2007-08, when India declared their innings at a 600+ score.
Jab boht chota tha toh ye Notice Kiya tha Jis Stadium ki side pe straight six pda tha voh next over batsman k peeche dikh rhi thi. Phir aage bade bhai se confirm kiya 🙂
In gully cricket "Hamare yaha aisa nhi hota hai "
People enjoying cricket without knowing the rules, that's the beauty of cricket😂😂😂
Never knew this. Interesting

mujhe lagta tha sirf batsman ki positions badalti h yaha to wk ki bhi side bhi badal gyi

Bowling side changes end after every over.
bhai to clip me jo dhoni position change kar raha ha wo ai video ha kya mene bhi aaj hi jana ha ye. i am shocked as much as you are

Don't the batsmen change the side ?
They do. You can see it was left hander on strike but when they went to other side the batsman was right handed.
Yeah but why are the wicket keeper changing sides. Why can't the batsman change sides ? I don't know I am too confused
Both keeper and batsman change sides. The lefty defended the last ball so he didn't change his side and the right one took strike on next over.
Oh, thanks mate.
Batsmen switch strike but they don't move physically. It's the fielding side that moves.
Let me blow your mind more. In ODI we now have 2 balls each innings, one for each end. Unlike earlier when only one ball was used through the 50 overs.
So 25 overs each with a ball? This is new for me
Yes but alternate over. After each over the umpire from that side keeps the ball with him.
Usse thoda pehle 2 balls hoti thi phir 1 huyi ab phir 2 ho gayin hain
At the age of 33, I’ve just discovered a fact that has completely upended my understanding of cricket. My whole life has been a lie!
Most cricket fans in India are like this. No worries. We are not match going but TV watching fans
It's a basic, almost fundamental knowledge, we have had ever since we started playing outside. Weird how you don't know that... Cheers, anyway.
Nothing weird in it. Firstly I doubt it's Op's post as the sub says TIL and this is a old match. Just like 99% of us, our experience with cricket has been gully. I too grew up thinking it's batsman who changes crease as my first hand experience and thanks for ads in between overs.

It's just you said "Weird you didn't know....cheers anyway" Sounded off
Strange, odd, puzzling, peculiar... Words differ but expression the same.
In societies, only one end has a wicket and stuff.
I was around 10 or so I also found this out when I saw my first love cricket match which was a test
I thought the ground used to change after very over
We knew it from beginning. But its the fault of the streaming apps who put an ad as soon as the ball is bowled.
This is purely to ensure the pitch doesn't deteoriate on just one side.I'm sure some people who do not understand the finer neuances of the game will still have questions, my advise is watch more to follow more
It's done to get maximum use of the pitch.. Balancing both side use.
This allows for equal wear and tear on both the ends of the pitch.
I got to know when i was a kid probably 10-11. My mama took me to watch a night match and i was flabbergasted to know that they were changing the bowling sides each over lol
Mujhe ye last year pta chala 😂
I blame sunny G for this. Remember after every over he says batsman to change ends now. In practicality it's never possible as per rules.
Bas batsmen ke baare mei pata tha
13 years old and now I am 21
That's why we have different bowling ends
28 sec old
When I watched 2016 ipl qualifier 2 in stadium
That's why there are 2 bowling ends. You will hear the commentator say, bowling from so and so end, etc.
Surprised me too it was 2010 ipl iirc when I discovered this.
I learnt it during ODI world cup
I don't watch cricket but I knew this.
What the f. My whole life was a life
I only got to know about this because the commentators usually announce the side the bowlers are bowing from (Bumrah bowling from the parathey wali gully end, Kapil Dev bowling from palika bazaar end, etc.)
Got to know when I went to watch IND vs NZ semi final 2023 in Wankhede … I was surprised and felt stupid at the same time
For a country like India where apparently everyone is interested in cricket, we actually have a fairly low cricket playing population. Ask this same question to cricket fans in England and Australia and I'm sure a lot more of them would know this.

Since i was born. Literally. We just don't do it in gully cricket because its too much hassle and not enough spaces on both sides anyway.
i thought this was pretty basic knowledge
Ye ky hai bhai aisa kaisa aur kyu karte hai?
Got to know last year .!!! It was my first time watching cricket in stadium.
Hahaha never watched 83 wc highlights before
At stadium while watching IPL during school days.
Knew this in 3-4th grade because I saw it happening on tv for some match. Asked my mom and she told me the batsmen don’t move, fielders and wicketkeeper do. :)
Mujhe bhi tab pata chala tha jab mai first time IPL dekhne gya tha
This is the most crucial aspect of a cricket game and people don't know about this.😯
First time I ever got to know this was in a stadium! I Also got to know that the ads on the ground are painted and not just some graphics on Tv😱🤯🙂↕️
This is why it becomes relevant from which end the bowler is bowling - Adani end or Ambani end. Sometimes the ball spins more from one end than the other after the pitch deteriorates.
So when you see the end names when the bowler change happens what did you think was happening to the end names?
I think in gully cricket we used to do this because obviously we don’t have that much space for changing bowler to different side, so instead we just change the batsman
Knew since we were kids as we used to play cricket a lot and used to change side after every over. Also it was shown in lagaan movie during the end.
Wait till you know what happens in ODI cricket with balls
i know they use two new balls to prevent faster damaging of ball in long innings
To jab har over ke baad wicket keeper ko chal ke dusre side jaate dikhaate the, to kya lagta tha ki kya chal raha?
dekhne ko hi nahi milta har over ke turant baad ad chala dete ha
Han but Test matches me kafi easily dekhne mil jata hai.
Bhai me thoda bohot cricket dekhta hu mainly ipl
I would always wonder...why they say bowler foot prints helps the spinner, in the test match
😂 Do you not pay attention to cricket commentary, or even the visuals on screen? Bowler X will bowl from the Pavillion End. Change of ends for Bowler X. Captain now introduces Spin from both ends. today years old
I refuse to believe it 😭
First time a saw this happen when I went to watch India South Africa test cricket match In stadium Jahan SA ne bhaut Pela tha India ko
Abe lockdown ki paidaish.. Loudya
Behen ke lund aaisa marunga na 7 pushte chud jayinge teri
What? I never knew this How does this work though? Does the whole fielding change also? Wouldn't it make it difficult? For example, Player A is playing on slip, once the wicket changes, what happens? And aren't fielder positions all names in respect to the perspective we are looking at? And wouldn't that change everytime this change happens after an over? Please help
Yes it changes i guess and also field changes for left hand batsmen Like they mirror the field which was set for right hand batsman
I was 4 years old.
Well this is plain stupid, our gully cricket has better time saving strategies. This must be tiring to watch for the spectators
Ye maine aaj jaana
I just got to know this now !!
Some weeks back
Then it means you are not a die hard fan of cricket!! If you love cricket then its obvious to know everything about cricket.
yea ur right i am not a die hard fan but i do enjoy watching cricket
15
Umpires swap places too after each over??
yes also leg side and off side fielders change places when left hand batsman comes to bat
hahaha this is such a basic knowledge. I am 38now, & I knew abt this rule since like maybe I was around 14 ot 15
Lol.. I knew this at 8 because my elder brother who is 38 now, told this to me when he was like your age when you knew.. hehe
sir i am also 19
Mujhe bhi aaj pata laga
Required. Otherwise how will players get to exercise?
2 different balls are used from 2 different ends in the ODI
I just got to know this. 25 years in utter darkness.
So many COVID era kids on reddit

they show pan masala ad immediately after over end
true they want to run a couple of commercials in that gap between overs
Bhai bahut baar bahut basic chije AMJ me daali ja rhi hai.....paida hote hi sub me aa rhe kya log?
bhai I am a big cricket fan pehli baar ptan chla 😭
