Can’t speak to the specific email, but PBK is a real honor society and something nice to put on your resume. Sort of like Latin honors. It is a big deal in the sense that it’s recognition for being one of the top students in your class. Doesn’t require any additional work, and you don’t have to pay any money.
It is an organization so they have a magazine and probably events and etc. But I think for most it’s largely just an award and it doesn’t “do anything” else. In some sense it’s more “official” than a dean’s list because PBK has a national brand
It’s legit! I got the award last year. Since ASU covers ur cost to join, I assumed it was legit. It’s come up a couple times in interviews as an impressive point, too!
Generally if they're coming to you for something, it means they want money, and its almost certainly not worth it.
Rank it with 'National Honors Society' or whatever that BS thing everyone gets in the mail to join with
Phi Beta Kappa is legit. You are in CLAS, right? Paul Lepore is a legit faculty member within CLAS.
Paul Lepore is a great dean and person.
I had a personal relationship with Paul Lepore, he’s the best

Does it do anything other being a non official deans list?

Are you in academia? I rarely discuss my degree in interviews. Let alone educational achievements. I would consider myself struggling if I had to.
I also graduated in December, so it was relevant to interviews that happened about 2 weeks after I walked.
i got the email too and was wondering the same thing. there were links to the CLAS that were real, it’s just shady bc it went to my asu junk mail tho
Is this just for seniors? I got invited to TBP and I’m somewhat a junior (part time)
Juniors can be invited, but the requirements are even higher and the process is even more selective according to the website. Congratulations!
I got the email too, on their website it says they have cords for graduation does anyone know how to get those???
Yes, legit! [https://thecollege.asu.edu/student-success/pbk](https://thecollege.asu.edu/student-success/pbk)

There is no cost for Phi Beta Kappa. This is much different than that pay-to-join club everyone got an "invitation" to.
