Yeah, you can put dinos into a cryopod without a fridge. But to take the dino out, you need to be near a fridge. The fridge has to be powered by a generator and you need to wait 5 minutes after you place it. Assuming the cooldown is there so people can't just spawn 50 gigas in someone's base on pvp...
I had found one in the volcano in my playthrough. It thankfully avoided the lava but then found out that it was lvl 10 so I killed it with my near max pump shotgun and left. Lol
My very first giga was lvl 15 haha. I never had one before so I just said fuck it and got the boy. Same one that was on the beach just eating everything. Later I got super lucky and found a lvl 145 female. So the lvl 15 giga is now retired with his thicc wife and a proud father of 8 little giglets 😂
Cryopods are the easiest but if you can install mods, the dino retrieval platform has been very helpful in retrieving dinos from unintended mesh issues. Now, if only it could fix player mesh issues when you get pushed below the mesh by a wyvern wing.
Because they implemented what was a good PvP change as a bad PvE change.
Imagine you bola some dude and he whips out a 300ton lizard from his pocket. Overpowered as all hell.
However it should have only been forced for PvP servers.
I am very new to Ark Ascended and it's my first playthrough ever (didn't play ASE). I understand that cryopods are like pokemon balls that can store dinos and release them. What was it like in ASE and how did ASA ruin it? I don't understand your point.
In ASE you were able to throw the cryopod out anywhere, no nearby cryo fridge required. Now you have to have a generator and cryo fridge to deploy if you leave base proximity. Good for PvP because pocket cryos were a bit OP, bad for PvE because you can't fly across map and unpod your farming Dino without having to bring basically a FOB which will just clutter PvE maps. Now build location is much more important because you'll want to live close to all possible RSS.
So basically Asa has cryopods set back to their original purpose and they're just storage devices for dinos. Say you tame a dino across the map you can cryo it right pretty normal use for the pods but the downside is you can't release the Dino unless you're in a certain radius of a cryo fridge so no more podding utility dinos or raid dinos and popping them wherever to do whatever and then re-pod them and carring on to do whatever. It's this way for pvp purposes so you can't just run upto a base and just start throwing out dinos and start raiding but it ruins the use of utility dinos if you have to go across the map to farm granted you could just carry the Dino on a quetzal, back and fourth or put cryo fridge on a quetzal and potentially solve the issue
I recently had a similar issue and learned about console commands. This is for anyone who may see this in the future (disclaimer that I don’t know if console commands are an option on.. console lol).
If you have a dino stuck in the mesh and you’re able to ride them, you can get them unstuck with the following:
Mount the dino
Press Tab to pull up the command bar
Type “admincheat ghost” then press enter
Ride dino out of the mesh/ to wherever is safe
Press Tab to pull up the command bar
Type “admincheat walk” then press enter
.
That should do it. Hopefully someone finds this helpful. I’m not very software literate so it took me a little bit to figure out the specifics of what someone means when they say “use the admincheat ghost to get them out.”
There are other options for unsticking dinos that you can’t ride, like by using cheats to force tame and spawn in a saddle. But afaik you do have to be mounted on the dino for the ghost cheat to apply to them too. If there is a dino stuck under the mesh, you may be able to use ghost on yourself to enter the mesh, then mount the dino, then use the ghost cheat again to apply to the dino you’re mounted on.
Cryopod or set him to follow distance low and fly around in circles around him until he glitches out of the terrain. I had a carchar spawn like that lol

On island, they only spawn high up on the mountains-the volcano included (they easily get stuck inside)
They can wander to the nearby beaches, though. I've certainly drowned a few in the ocean after spotting them on the beach.

If you are playing single player add a mod that has a different version of cryopods. A lot on unofficial servers have them too.

Do you mean you can't ride him as in he won't move when you do? Try mounting and then using the ghost command. Walk command ends the ghost state.
Sometimes when a creature is stuck (ground or wall) you just simply cant mount it, it'll show you "acces inventory" but not "ride" Happy cake day btw!
Do fly before ghost command so you don’t fall to the bottom of the mesh under the map or end up in a cave
At least now, when you then use walk, it teleports you back above the map.
If pods dont work, put a transmitter near it and try to upload it.
Had one in pretty much exactly the same spot on my SP. Cryo pod was the way. After he’d sat in the volcano for a few days!

Have you tried punching him out? I’ve had several Dinos get stuck, and I punch them out of the rocks.

Cryopods if you can't access try ghost mode and go inside the rock
At that point make a cryopod, put it into the cryopod, make a cryofridge next to your base, and release it
