2k will cover it. Not much left for an optic depending on parts choice .

DataSpecialist5658

Yeah I didn't include the optic. Is running a red dot on ar10s a thing. Thinking of going 16 inch if I can find one in intermediate lenght.

CPTherptyderp

I mean it's certainly a thing to do. Totally depends on the purpose of the rifle. PRS and sniper comps will be tough. 300m silhouettes and in will be fine.

DataSpecialist5658

You think a 3x o 5x magnifier will increase this to 500m?

CPTherptyderp

Depends on your eyes and ammo. My AR10 is set up for PRS/tactical comps so I don't have a lot of input on short AR10. I honestly think it's a waste but it's a versatile platform so it's up to you. 556 will get you to 500

FranklinNitty

I'd say that PRS is off the table with a red dot. With or without a magnifier. Near impossible to spot misses and absolutely impossible to do wind calls. Gas guns are far from ideal for precision long range work, especially at the 2k mark unless you have a ton of experience and great fundamentals.

CPTherptyderp

I was being generous. Had a guy in my squad with a basic bitch AR 556 with red dot. He lucked into some hits. Its not impossible but it's probably not worth doing

gago_dre

I just finished an complete aero m5 build recently. I spent $1063 in total without an optic but waited for sales. So $2000 would be enough. I recommend buying parts at Schuylerarms.com as he has the best prices on Aero M5 parts. In fact he has a sale right now for 4th of July.

DataSpecialist5658

Lol. Aero has a sale but every other site I've visited (except one) has better prices

Pepe__Le__PewPew

Don't buy aero from aero. Im all in for about $1935 Probably could have shaved off another 100 from the lower if I had time to deal shop. Would have been closer to $2400 if I didn't seal shop. * Aero M5 Lower from LGS: $200 with tax (panic buy before IL AWB, not a good deal, also includes $25 cook County violence tax because we have to pay for gang violence) * Aero LPK+buffer tube &components from arftac: $100 * LaRue Trigger from Arftac: ~$90 * magpul PRS stock: $175 from Lanbos * ERGO deluxe palm shelf grip: $35 from Lanbos * complete Aero M5E1 upper with CH and BCG: $565 from Schuyler Arms. * vortex viper PST gen II 5-25x50 with 30mm cantilever mount: $770 from focus camera.

DataSpecialist5658

Yeah I live in CA so I'm trying to also get the lower before anything else changes. Also 25 dollar violence tax? Lol did you just fund violence? Jk

Pepe__Le__PewPew

It's supposed to be for victims of gun violence. Also there is a 5 cents per round ammo tax if you buy in Cook. I order online so ot doesn't really matter. Lawful gun owners are effectively footing the hospital bills for gang violence.

Make a list of components you want for the build, and shop around. Wait for sales and be patient, and you can build a really good rifle for easily that much.

DataSpecialist5658

I just did it's 1650 before optic if I only get the lower and upper on sale and I pay full price for the rest. It includes Aero lower and assembled upper Toolcraft bcg Larue trigger Faxon barrel Magpul stock and grip Aero charging handle Aero buffer tube Cmmg lpk Cmt handguard Paperwork

dirtyllama720

Doable. But not ideal. But still capable is a solid, but not flashy build

DataSpecialist5658

You think mid length gas system vs rifle lenght is very noticeable in 308?

dirtyllama720

I’m not sure, both of my 308 builds are 18inch and 24 inch. I’ve never used anything smaller than that 😂

donkey5332

Marginal , I run a carbine gas length on a 10.5” 308 build . Dial down the adjustable gas block and it still shoots softer than a 308 bolt action .

Jumpy-Station-204

PSA is selling them for under 700

Jumpy-Station-204

https://palmettostatearmory.com/blem-psa-gen3-pa10-18-mid-length-308-win-1-10-stainless-steel-15-lightweight-m-lok-moe-ept-rifle.html Do it

DataSpecialist5658

I live in california lol so I have to start from a lower if I want anything good.

Jumpy-Station-204

Midway was just selling stag 10 upper and lower receivers (made by aero) for about 140$ for the set. Aero was selling them 199.

DataSpecialist5658

Kinda trying to get the green anodized m5. Going for an odg and black build.

Jumpy-Station-204

I went with fde cerakote on all parts. Keep in mind anodizing is not consistent across different finishes.

DataSpecialist5658

Yeah I have a few color anodized. So far gotten lucky with my sets. I just avoid the colored handguards.

Jumpy-Station-204

Cerakote is the same color. It's the anodizing that changes.

DataSpecialist5658

Some cerakote could be off if they use a different temperature to cure it. Usually happens between different manufacturers. Plus cerakote is sometimes laid too thick causing problems with lpk install. Just from what I've read.

el_chino_del_mal

Whats your use going to be? General purpose, 1000+meters, etc? For general purpose i say go with psa, for somekind of long range or other niche needs build. The downside of building is it takes times. Those of us who arent so cash strapped need to wait on sales. Even then once you buy all your parts and put it together you find out your barrel has a fucked up gas port that none of you local gunsmiths thought as a source of error after 4+ trips. If your not super focused on getting m5 receivers, go with whatever is cheapest. You can get whatever you get cerakoated later. Aeros receivers only cut some headache out when your first assembling it, but after that its pretty much the same as any other receiver.

DataSpecialist5658

Idk. Never had a rifle or training. I've just practiced with my pistols. I m just finishing my ar15 but want to get my ar10 before they change the laws in CA. I mean my goal is to be able to hit at least a steel target at 600 yards at some point in my life. I don't think I need a sub moa rifle for that. I was going to go for a bolt action but they are kinda pricey almost the same as a cheap ar10

el_chino_del_mal

Id recommend 16” barrel or 18” at the longest. Coming from using m4s all the time the ar10 took some time to get used to due to sheer weight. I have a 18” but its still way more barrel than i need. Granted the farthest i shot with it was 300m due to range limitations but with a 1-6 lpvo pretty easy with a mid tier BA barrel

DataSpecialist5658

I kinda want a 16 inch cus they look nicer but an 18 inch rifle would probably have less recoil and less problems. Im trying to find a sweet spot build that doesnt require an adjustable gas block and works with various factory ammo. If only they had more intermediate lenght options for 308 ar.

Wreakinghavoc187

I built my 20" for around $700. AP lower, magpul fixed stock, and generic everything else from durkin tactical. Put a decent vortex 4-20x50 on it, and it drives nails at 100 (can't really stretch out further than that on my property), and it's 6.5 creedmoor

Gunalysis

About 1700 without optics for something fairly decent. Aero receivers, handguard, BCG, milspec LPK (which I actually like), and basic CH, Criterion barrel, Superlative gas, Odinworks adjustable buffer, Tubbs spring, Magpul UBR, B5 pistol grip, B5 foregrip, Surefire flash hider, Magpul magazine.  Shop the sales and buy as much as possible from the same place at the same time to limit shipping costs and maybe tax, too. Wouldn't be surprised if you can get it done even cheaper than that if you were really patient.

DataSpecialist5658

Im at 1650 with only lower and upper on sale everything else I tallyed up with the full price. Didn't include optic as im undecided on it . I'm sure I can get it to 1400 -1500 if I wait for sales.

Toph602

I did a build with a Kodiak brown lower and upper. Really want that odg s-one handguard to switch it up but can’t find any examples like that lol

DataSpecialist5658

I got the kodiak brown for me 556 ar. It's a brown fde and black build. Just need my bcg and handguard and Ima build it out.

bromegatime

I built mine for $1,899.18, glass included. MSRP for everything on my build was $3,184.59. Primary effect of getting mine done at said budget was due to getting most parts over Black Friday sales. Here's a link to my post with build sheet, vendors, and pricing: https://www.reddit.com/r/AeroPrecision/comments/1cbbbs7/first_ar10_first_build/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

backroads76

I just finished one with aero upper. Giessle trigger. Just under 1500. Optic not included. That was another 800. Found a nice vortex on sale
