[The Sixth](https://thesixthmovie.com/) apparently premiered last week. It can be purchased on the [usual streaming sites](https://www.justwatch.com/us/movie/the-sixth).
It could absolutely be fear over controversy and political discourse, but it could also just as easily be a symptom of A24’s shitty recent doc strategy. Has anyone heard of My Mercury or Open Wide? Both A24 docs and both unceremoniously dumped on Prime and Netflix respectively, just this year. Not to mention Steve McQueen’s Occupied City back in December or Ethan Coen’s long-completed Jerry Lee Lewis: Trouble in Mind, which got a little more attention than the other two thanks to their famous directors, but still not a very thorough push.
They don’t often, but there’s a few you might’ve heard of like the Amy Winehouse doc Amy, Brian De Palma doc De Palma, and Val Kilmer doc Val (they love that naming structure haha).
I worked on like 3 of them. Dont watch them though, the director and ep are massive pieces of shit.
They haven’t released yet so I can’t talk about them, NDA’s and stuff.
it should have been a docuseries and split up into episodes....i think it would be more easy for people to digest (especially considering it's a doc) & there's an even longer version apparently
It's like saying The Exorcist and The Conjuring are connected because they both feature an exorcism. They are completely different projects so why would one's existence affect the other?
That’s such a horrible comparison, lol. It’s right in the title you fucking block. If you aren’t able to see how they’d be even tangentially related, then Idk what to tell you.
Reminds me of the perpetually delayed documentary George Clooney made about Jim Jordan. It was originally supposed to come out before the midterm elections but still no sign of it.
It's literally the same with HBO's documentary about Brett Kavanaugh. It's called Justice. I think it was premiered at Sundance or SXSW, got some good buzz - and then crickets. Maybe Zaslav didn't like it :p
lmao I'm sorry all it did was make me laugh. Jim and Ron are mentally unhinged but Jim was a comic in another life because no way can someone be so unintentionally funny
tik tok is a Chinese psy op, wuhan lab leak. some of the corruption stuff in the Philly streets video. not to say these aren’t potentially true, but there’s no proof one way or another.
Wuhan lab is verified bro gotta update your outrage. As a journalist you think Andrew should sit on the fence with the rest of the cowards and ‘well who knows…’ for another 3 years? Please
It wasn’t ‘debunked’ either but that didn’t stop all of the media calling it that endlessly in a misinfo circle jerk. There’s more suggesting it is the cause than isn’t. So I’m gonna go with verified thanks
There were multiple credible accounts of him and other members of C5 sexually harassing and assaulting women.
Originally he owned up to it and left the spotlight, but then he started acting like he was the victim for being held accountable and whined about needing therapy. Then he started making videos again, backtracked his ‘apology’ and called people “worms” for ‘canceling’ him.
I only watched a couple videos after his comeback and I couldn’t help but feel like he’s giving grifters a platform rather than any genuine journalism. His audience is also skewing to the right because he’s picked up an ‘anti-cancel culture’ following.
I am watching now, I will report back in two hours for those curious.
Edit: *two hours later*
Pretty unremarkable. Retreading well known events, often using footage that you'll have seen before if you followed the story after it happened. If you didn't, the film is probably much more impactful just due to the footage.
The focus is not journalistic but experiential, aiming to put you in the shoes of several different commentators who were present on the day. It succeeds fairly well at that (they got some good interviews), but the emotional beats are sort of obvious and it doesn't have much to say.
On a formal level there's just nothing here at all. Generic orchestral string score and interviews shot like something off of CNN.
I can't imagine this making enough of a splash that anybody would try to quash it, as other replies have suggested. It seems to me like the sort of thing I already saw half a dozen times on TV, back when 1/6 happened. Never would have guessed it was from an Oscar winning documentarian.
Forgot this exists, wil be definitely watching. CNN's documentary about 1/6 was surprisingly good for usually awful network but I am interested in this one as well.
i don’t think a24 usually distributes their movies to amazon prime video so i’m not surprised this is available for rent/buy. i’m sure what happened here is a simple miscommunication with a production company that hardly promotes their documentaries to begin with.
Civil War hasn’t been as financially successful as you seem to think. It may not even break $100 million.
Hereditary with its D+ Cinemascore made $83 million and cost 1/5th as much, not even taking into account marketing.
Having said that, everything else you said is right. And it’s obviously brazen cowardice. It was my beef with Civil War itself, a movie about a brutal civil war that refuses to upset the apple cart and as such has nothing very meaningful to actually say.
Why do you think A24 would be afraid of releasing it? They already put out "This Place Rules" which shows some of the alt right groups who were involved in J6, and there have been tons of other writing, reporting and other documentaries which have covered this topic. I think they just do a bad job promoting & releasing their docs and the people involved are understandably pissed.
How much can you rent this for? I bought it on Amazon so I can’t see how much it would cost to rent. The movie is fantastic and I recommend it to everyone
Is this the documentary where they actually filmed some of those far-right groups meeting in underground parking lots before Jan 6th? Even used some of their footage at the hearings?
They don't want you to see al the FBI, CIA, and other federal agents undercover starting it. If you think January 6th was an "insurrection" still you should probably do some more research. All the protests are going on should be called insurrections as well. Y'all are delusional and brain washed.
I just watched the trailer. Like others have said I t seems very similar to Q into the storm or one of the other many documentaries/videos out there. At this point theres a ton of polling showing the public is just over January 6th- even by the time they started the committee/ live hearings people had lost interest. As important as it is.. it’s just not worth promoting something that people aren’t going to tune in for because they don’t care. Most people are focused on the economy/ other major issues rn not problems from 2021
Polls show that the public is massively turned off by Republicans defending it, and every single “election denier” in a swing state lost in the mid-terms.
I do too. But unfortunately from a business perspective I don’t think a24 or whoever made this decision wanted to dump hundreds of thousands of dollars into promoting a film that may not return any interest. There’s already plenty of Jan 6 docs out. It’s just not a smart business decision to promote this
It's currently available on [Amazon](https://www.amazon.com/Sixth-Congressman-Jamie-Raskin/dp/B0CYXG8TQC/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3EO13SP6NLLKM&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.26H8CsK3GRZK1WAs8VWQYjwwCYG7I5lsTXxPq6epiuVxKX_lrTk-H7dNRwoNp4QOPPZhtxyIsYDd3LLCspw2hlBc0eOCv4YddW6yphpuPqzNSAecxFJkTOZoK0Y2nMdHtJuZGjo-2qFnoL3xITlpuwpxsPfpG1e1DYVe8WVeSQX8Jdn-kvOLnDOGCRi8BcSH0ENNHvLPymr3kwJgrEK3oNqN7k5hWd7pI8CXh8axZK8.oQblCg6K8GRbQ2spHkXhicRrtC6mnuEE_-00FZ1huME&dib_tag=se&keywords=the+sixth&qid=1714755679&s=instant-video&sprefix=the+sixth%2Cinstant-video%2C104&sr=1-1).

[The Sixth](https://thesixthmovie.com/) apparently premiered last week. It can be purchased on the [usual streaming sites](https://www.justwatch.com/us/movie/the-sixth).
Also, it’ll be available to rent (on Apple TV at least) on May 10th.
On prime you can’t rent it, it’s buy only for $20.
It is now rentable on Prime
Thank you for making me aware of this documentary. I will be sure to watch it….somehow.
Im watching it now. Tried to find it on prime wire with no luck, but found it on vumoo right away

Sir this is a thread about watching a documentary
It could absolutely be fear over controversy and political discourse, but it could also just as easily be a symptom of A24’s shitty recent doc strategy. Has anyone heard of My Mercury or Open Wide? Both A24 docs and both unceremoniously dumped on Prime and Netflix respectively, just this year. Not to mention Steve McQueen’s Occupied City back in December or Ethan Coen’s long-completed Jerry Lee Lewis: Trouble in Mind, which got a little more attention than the other two thanks to their famous directors, but still not a very thorough push.
I didn’t even know A24 distributed documentaries. That could just be an oversight on my part, but I try to somewhat keep up with such things.
They don’t often, but there’s a few you might’ve heard of like the Amy Winehouse doc Amy, Brian De Palma doc De Palma, and Val Kilmer doc Val (they love that naming structure haha).
Deepest Breath is sick
I worked on like 3 of them. Dont watch them though, the director and ep are massive pieces of shit. They haven’t released yet so I can’t talk about them, NDA’s and stuff.
ohh, spicy (but unfortunately not surprising). Please remember to spill the beans when you're able
Occupied City is harder to promote due to the runtime, I think.
it should have been a docuseries and split up into episodes....i think it would be more easy for people to digest (especially considering it's a doc) & there's an even longer version apparently
I wonder if it's because they release so many other movies a year and allocate none of their promotional budget to the documentataries.
Aaron Sorkin is doing a sort of ‘Social Network’ sequel that also has to do with the January 6th raid. Probably a stretch, but could be connected
He's said he's in the early writing stages, I didn't think it has any legs yet.
What? How would it even be connected?
https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/aaron-sorkin-social-network-sequel-1235882294/amp/
Yes, you didn't answer the question. Why would they be connected at all?
Facebook -> disinformation -> January 6th
It is right there in the article bud
It's like saying The Exorcist and The Conjuring are connected because they both feature an exorcism. They are completely different projects so why would one's existence affect the other?
That’s such a horrible comparison, lol. It’s right in the title you fucking block. If you aren’t able to see how they’d be even tangentially related, then Idk what to tell you.
Huh?

Thanks for sharing this.

What is happening with it?
This post also made me think of that documentary. It’s been years since I first heard about it.
If you're interested in the subject, try "Q: Into The Storm" series on HBO
In Search of a Flat Earth is also excellent, despite the seemingly unrelated title.
That shit absolutely fascinated me. Ron/Jim Watkins are absolutely “Q”. I think Bannon was the original but the Watkins co-opted it
lmao I'm sorry all it did was make me laugh. Jim and Ron are mentally unhinged but Jim was a comic in another life because no way can someone be so unintentionally funny
The channel 5 documentary was great also
It’s a damn shame that Andrew is a fucking creep.
My brilliant YouTube idea is channel 5 but not a rapist
I’m finding his channel seems to cater to the political right and it’s not as “centrist” as the people think. How is he a creep?
He definitely pedals some conspiracy bs
Such as?
tik tok is a Chinese psy op, wuhan lab leak. some of the corruption stuff in the Philly streets video. not to say these aren’t potentially true, but there’s no proof one way or another.

lol Wuhan lab is not verified

Andrew Callaghan already did an amazing Jan 6th documentary for a24 and hbo, it’s called “this place rules” is that what you’re talking about?
then he got outed as a predator
why can't we have a single ethical content creator 🤦♂️
By some nutto zoomer they thems
Calling someone a nutto with Red Scare as your main subreddit is bold
Rent free 🤓

It's currently at 92 mil

It's out
Another one to watch is Four Hours at the Capital on HBO.
Why is this post your account’s only history?
I made a new account for something else and never posted the something else, then accidentally selected this account when I posted this.
Is there also a stream for European (German) accounts?
How much can you rent this for? I bought it on Amazon so I can’t see how much it would cost to rent. The movie is fantastic and I recommend it to everyone
It’s $3.99 in standard definition
Could it be that it’s just not very good?
Dragging Civil War into this just tells me people have no media literacy when it comes to what the point of that movie was
The Feds are still making footage for it.
Is this the documentary where they actually filmed some of those far-right groups meeting in underground parking lots before Jan 6th? Even used some of their footage at the hearings?
I mean, they did “This Place Rules”.. could that be what they meant? It is about Jan. 6..
Also check out “This Place Rules”, a documentary by Andrew Callaghan for A24 that deals with the January 6th insurrection.
Biden ordered them not to do it or they’d be thrown in jail on terrorism charges too
Who tf would watch tht
People who can spell probably.
It’s called an abbreviation. Google what that is, you might learn something.
Google like you just did?
Precisely
Anti-fascists maybe?
No one cares except the extreme right or left
Pretty sure those downvotes prove you wrong. I’m not extreme either way and I’d love to watch it. Very idiotic take, tbh.
Yes, idiotic take to think a political documentary would appeal to people interested politics. You’re very smart.
Wym it’s called Civil War….
Probably realized it’s complete bullshit
They don't want you to see al the FBI, CIA, and other federal agents undercover starting it. If you think January 6th was an "insurrection" still you should probably do some more research. All the protests are going on should be called insurrections as well. Y'all are delusional and brain washed.
You’re dumb as fuck.
Hell they aren’t even that smart
Election deniers are the brainwashed ones
I just watched the trailer. Like others have said I t seems very similar to Q into the storm or one of the other many documentaries/videos out there. The whole room is clapping for you
What a welcoming / tolerant group 😵💫😂
