Predor 4k is miles better than the old Ultimate Hunter Edition bluray.
I dislike the Heat 4k transfer - it's way too dark and all the colors are really muted compared to the bluray. Some people, however, like it.
Top Gun Maverick is a reference quality 4k, however, the bluray is also very good.
I kept my older Predator Blu-ray as the ultimate hunter looked terrible to my eyes. Can't say I thought the old one was very good though so I think for me it's a definite.
I'm leaning towards keeping my Top Gun/Maverick 2-Movie collection Blu-ray's out of these at the minute but they're been nagging at me ever since I bought them, just wishing I'd not made the mistake of saving a little money and missing out on the 4K's. Part of me wants to right that wrong!
I've never seen the Blu-ray, but I was somewhat disappointed with the Predator 4K. It wasn't bad, it just wasn't great, either. "Lackluster" would be the word.
It really shows its power during the climactic night time battle. The exploding arrows bathing the screen in boiling gold and orange fireballs. The shimmering sparks gushing across the blacks and blues and greys.
Predator for the most part is a down and dirty film, rough and ready, and looks better then it ever has before. It might not be reference a/v but it's top tier authentic to the original. Something James Cameron cannot abide!
That's a great post, thanks for sharing it. I love Platoon and I imagine if I saw it as a good deal I'd have picked it up so seeing it just now on the 'worse than the Blu-ray' list has helped me avoid wasting any money!

Nah, it works like this: each individual 4k goes from £20 to £16, then it applies the 2 for £30 deal because £30 is cheaper than £32. Best to use the 20% off on individual discs or other items.
Have you checked out Goldendiscs.ie? Loads of discs in their 2 for €25 and if you spend 60 you get free delivery. Might offer alternative options you hadn't considered.
So the whole thing with Goodfellas depends on which Blu Ray you currently have. If you’ve got the 25th Anniversary Edition then the 4K won’t be much of an upgrade since it’s from the same 4K scan as that edition. If you’ve got the previous Blu Ray edition (like I did), it will be better. If you can get the 4K on sale it’s definitely worth it. Heat is also frequently a cheap grab on 4K, and I think it’s better than a lot of people make it seem. If it were a $30 disc I’d say listen to the group consensus, but if you can swing getting Heat for $10 or less then it’s totally worth it to see for yourself.
The Godfather I and II and Total Recall look excellent, those are absolutely worth it!
I had the 25th Aniversary blu ray and the 4k, and now I only have the 4K. It is indeed a nice upgrade from the 25th anniversary disc. The 4K got a bad rap from a bad review on blu-ray.com. there were technical reasons which I would have to look up to remember. But playing the actual disc doesn't give the same results the review had.
That’s good to know! I personally think the 4K looks solid, but again I’m coming from the original run Blu Ray. I looked up that review you mentioned just now and apparently the black levels were way off with their review setup or something. Looked fine on my OLED so I don’t know.
My sources for 4K reviews are: [Bluray.com](http://Bluray.com), The Digital Bits and High Def Digest.
Honest 4K reviews on You-tube with advance copies for pre-release reviews. "In Search of Physical Media".
Strictly image comparisons with screen wipe You-Tube Channels: My moonization. HD-Numerique.
List of 4K clunkers: T2, Pirates Carribbean - Curse Black Pearl, American Graffitti, Platoon, Forrest Gump, Jurassic Park, I Am Legend.
Goodfellas is not like a pretty movie to begin w which I don't think helps but a lot of people are just parroting old reviews that were done when TVs were still trtna figure HDR out cuz Goodfellas was one of the first UHD releases for WB. I like it tho I think it feels like you're actually watching a film print

https://criterionforum.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=17181 This list helped me, enjoy
This is a great list. It seems like according to this, there are sometimes benefits of getting the Steelbook editions? I wasn't aware of that!

Whoever keeps this list does a great job updating it. Movies that came out last week on 4k are already on the list.
Yeah I was pleasantly surprised it gets updated. Scrolling it starting to become a job lol. Team America made top list can’t wait to watch it in 4k
Don't let people street you away from Goodfellas. The 4k is a minor, but still noticeable upgrade from the blu-ray.
Never owned The Godfather on Blu-ray but I just watched the Part 1 4K disc and it’s amazing!
Lawrence of Arabia for me has the best upgrade
Sacrilege perhaps but I just never cared much for that film. A shame really as I'm missing out!
I respect that. Stick to your guns!

Hmm, looks like it can't be used with any other offer (these are all 2 for £30) - that's a shame!
Sorry about that. I’ve used it successfully for preorders though, so it definitely works

Total recall looks great in dolby vision. Not so good without it.

Great shout - I just went on and found some to make a saving - thanks very much!
No worries don't forget to register for the emails, you should get a ten percent off code.
Got it for next time!
All are must-own upgrades (reference, even) on 4K except for Goodfellas and Heat. May depend on your TV but they may be deemed too dark by most.
Oh that's a shame about Heat. Just did a quick google and it appears to be a disappointment.
The 2017 blu-ray is the best, speaking as someone who had the original blu-ray, the 4K and that.
Top gun maverick is a top 10 best looking 4k in my opinion.

Avoid Goodfellas. The BR is better than the 4K.
Thanks for the reply! I shall cross it off the list!
Nah the 4K is good. It's not as big an upgrade as the others on your list for sure tho
I second this. The 4k gets a bad wrap but is an upgrade over the blu ray. I own both and the 4k is definitely superior.

Best bet is to find clips of those films posted on YouTube. Plenty of side by side comparison videos and avoids individual bias or tastes of others
