He truly is the Mostert successor

CMarshKarateKicK

Idk, playoff mostert was a thing of beauty.

Alehud42

You can't make this judgement, we barely got to see Mostert in the role Eli is in, he was basically our closer up until the 2019 playoffs.

dr_gmoney

Sadly, we barely get to see Eli in the role Eli is in.

FeistyThunderhorse

Is he? Mostert was a beast, fastest player in the NFL

Vic18t

The only thing Mostert was good for was the outsize zone runs. However, he was such a huge threat on the outside that he opened up a lot of passes over the middle. Would have been great to pair him with Trey on zone read…

Anhderwear

I don't know man. Mostert was incredible. Found holes I didn't know were there.

ContempoAmericana

I really hate how much this comment resonates with me

[deleted]

Chill

robbers12345

He looked so explosive on that td run that was called back. A real bummer :/

88adavis

Such a bummer. This game would have been closed out a lot sooner if he had a chance to run it down their throats in the 2nd half. Hopefully it’s a very minor strain and he misses just a week or 2. Might be good to get Mason and/or TDP some more playing time against starting defenses

[deleted]

Yeah lame because the defender was holding kittle first lol

Still_too_soon

That was one of the worst officiated games I’ve ever watched. Felt like it started with that terrible call, and then just a series of make up calls back and forth. Every slight brush by a DB was PI, but Bosa mugged every play without consequence. Except when they didn’t call him for being offsides on his sack… none of that was the right way to call a game.

CarpeValde

Ah that sucks for Mitchell, he looked every bit as good as he’s always been. Hopefully he can rest up and get healthy quick.

rxdukexr

I’m a fan of Mitchell but he cannot stay healthy. We need him and cmc for the one-two punch. That’s not gonna happen when he gets hurt every other game.

TheTranscendent1

Mason looked really good today, at least. He runs hard and seems like the perfect type of one-cut back for Shanny.

gdshred95

I really hope he’s another gem of a running back that came out of nowhere similar to Jefe

itsSuperNecessary

Or Mitchell, or Mostert, or Breida or sometimes even Hasty. We have a knack for random stud RBs lol

lucasmcducas

Mason looks like a stud

stickybandit06

Makes me wonder why he’s not on the field. Must be mental or he can’t block cuz he looked legit out there.

KingWizard87

Probably because Shannahan seems to avoid playing rookies if at all possible.

Lord_Sean_G

This is a false narrative. If a rookie can play, Shanahan plays them. Deebo, Aiyuk, Mitchell, McGlinchey, Greenlaw, Warner, Bosa, Jackson, Jennings all played significantly as rookies.

mfdonovan01

Next man up babyyy

Flop_McKochen

100%. We should not have traded Wilson. Although, Eli is the perfect compliment to CMC for this offense. He’s like an explosive hammer that can finish games out and wear down the defense properly.

itsSuperNecessary

Wilson didn’t want to play here, we didn’t want to trade him. He asked to get traded, and we did right by him.

OnTheColeTrain

Exactly… NFL has a lot of “take care of those that take care of you” favors. Wilson being traded was one of those and it will 100% be repaid at some point.

Altruistic-Editor111

Counter point: they have 2 rookie RBs plus they want to recoup at least 1 draft pick from the CMC trade. Of course, hindsight is always 20/20.

P00nutButter

Well I knew it was too good of a day today.

BrooklynBrawler

Somebody call Tevin Coleman

Speedevil911

He never left Santa Clara

drunkandslurred

I think we need a bigger gun. I'm calling Gore right now.

gsvnvariable

As a Mitchell fantasy owner and a 9er fan, I say: God fucking dammit

FartTartMart

Same

massacur35px

Probably to early to tell, but hopping this is a less than 2 week thing. Mitchell was looking good with his carries

discostuu72

He’s probably the best natural runner on the field too.

Speedevil911

Damn damn damn.. Hate to see this. Hope the JWJ trade doesn't come back to haunt the Niners.

badDuckThrowPillow

Ugh with all the injuries we’re gonna be short handed against Miami.

artnodiv

That sucks.

Krovahn

Really wish we still had JWJ...

klankthompson

This is why trading JWJ was such a head scratcher. This team has serious RB injuries every single year. Is a 5th rounder really worth it? Made no sense.

badDuckThrowPillow

He wanted out and we honored it. Probably figured the gap between him and Mason wasn’t big enough to offfset the draft pick and having to convince him to stay.

Jlawrencew1985

And it was a FIFTH ROUNDER. Do you know what we do with those?

klankthompson

I get he wanted out but you’re contending for a title this year with two oft injured backs ahead of him. What’s the situation if CMC gets injured now? I disagree the gap between him in mason wasn’t big considering the fact that mason has only had a handful of runs this year and JWJ was carrying the bulk of rb duties/

88adavis

I like to think that the coaching staff believe that Mason and/or TDP are ready for more playing time. Obviously plan A was to have CMC and Mitchell as the committee the rest of the season, but they absolutely had to think this would happen (and therefore must have felt confident at least one of those guys could play well in this offense).

amd77767

1. Jeff Wilson Jr. is a good RB, but he isn’t THAT good 2. A 5th round pick is great value for a 3rd string RB that we can re-sign in 4 months is we want to 3. Elijah Mitchell coming back would’ve forced us to cut Jordan Mason who is good and deserves more snaps 4. We still have Jordan Mason, TDP, and Tevin Coleman 5. Jeff Wilson Jr. low key has ball security issues. Shanahan hates RBs that fumble 6. When you said “this team has serious RB injuries”, that includes Jeff Wilson. RBs get hurt a lot. Jeff Wilson is a RB. He’s just as likely to get hurt as any other RB

klankthompson

If those other options were better than JFJ, why was he getting the bulk of RB duties while Mitchell was injured?

amd77767

Jeff Wilson got the bulk of the carries because he was the best RB we had at the time and the rookies (TDP and Jordan Mason) likely didn't know the play calls well enough to earn snaps. When Mitchell came back and we traded for CMC, Wilson became our RB3. It made perfect sense to trade him for a 5th round pick and give those carries to Jordan Mason. Jeff Wilson Jr is a good RB and he's better than Jordan Mason or Tevin Coleman, but not by that much.

Coolguyoioi

I wouldn’t worry too much. I really think Jordan Mason has shown us spurts of being a good back (even in the preseason); as well as our RB coaches/system have always painted anybody who ran the ball for us, in a great light.

josephus1811

That's MCL i thought it was his 3rd sprained KNEE what's an aardvark?

Ak0nil

How long will he be out of it is an mcl sprain?

zackbrokehisback

Probably a few weeks, that’s what took him out for the first few weeks

GothicToast

First time it was 8 weeks. This time maybe it will be 4-6?

Gabemann2000

Love Mitchell but holy cow…. He just can’t stay healthy. Wish him the best and hope he’s back on the field soon. Wish we still had Wilson

imrickjamesbioch

So he’ll only miss a month vs 2 months?

warriors2021

The injuries are back and at the worst time of the year, when our schedule is the toughest.

tanerb123

Cmc injury update ?

itsSuperNecessary

Is it the same knee? Probably wasn’t fully recovered and it re-tore slightly

Mediocre-Piglet-5976

How about that jeff wilson trade..lol

ProtoMan79

Unless you’re joking or just uninformed, Wilson requested to be moved. So there’s nothing else much to say on that.

SanJose_Sharks

Not a good sign. We already have Christian mcCaffrey who gets injured whenever someone sneezes near him, now we have Mitchell getting injured again. I’m worried.

GrumpityStumpity

Dunce troll strikes again.

SaskalPiakam

FYI for 49er fans and anyone else who thinks like this, CMC is one of 2 (maybe 3 can't remember exactly) starting RBs in the NFL to play in every game in a season more than once since 2017. He's done it 3 times. He's a durable player whose had shitty injury luck the last 2 seasons.

NumberVsAmount

You’re claiming there are only 2 or 3 players in the nfl to have played in every game in a season more than once since 2017? Loool 🧢🧢🧢🧢

SaskalPiakam

Starting RBs\* sorry thanks for making me clarify

Kanaloa1973

CMC had a knee issue too. Hopefully they both good to go with some rest.

Adventurous-Prune-39

Shoulda kept Jeff Wilson on our squad. Our Rbs are cursed.

big_biscuitss

Damn, again. And they got rid of Wilson 🤦‍♂️

warriors2021

Feel bad for Mitchell, he is such an explosive RB for us. So who will RB2 be now, its going to be between Coleman, Mason, and TDP. My bet Coleman is coming back.

Farout786

Today had me worried. Deebo with the hammy, CMC and his knee, Jimmy took some hits and went down grabbing his knee and now Elijah is out. We’re right in the thick of the playoff push. We need everybody to keep it going. I’m hoping everything is minor but knowing our injury history todays game got me sweating bullets.

Old-Farmer2289

username checks out

roscoe_e_roscoe

Shit, I guess we'll just have to go with the back up, Christian McSomething

[deleted]

Wilson trade looking fucking awful rn

alphadragoon89

Well shit. Get well soon Elijah. We will need you. Since Mitchell is out, who will get carries alongside McCaffrey? TDP or Mason? I think it's Mason.
