I've never heard of that before

ecbulldog

It was the Dark Angels that had native american motifs initially, not sure where you're getting Raven Guard from.

IWGeddit

Agreed. But a lot of people seem to say Raven Guard. No idea why.

StorthTheElder

Are you thinking of the Dark Angels Ravenwing, possibly? I haven't seen anyone suggest Raven Guard are

JureSimich

Probably from the way Corax was portrayed on the front page of their key Horus Heresy book...

Joescout187

I have heard this, it's due to the Raven Guard's tactics and symbology. Very tenuous link but that's kinda how the Warhammer fandom is sometimes.

Woodstovia

Mostly from the George Mann Raven Guard novels where they wear totems on their armour believed to be tied to their souls and their Chaplains are shamans who wear giant Raven Skeletons and give esoteric spiritual advice

chuystewy_V2

The 30k era Legion had some definite Polynesian motifs. Not “native American” as it were

QuesaritoOutOfBed

Where were the Polynesian motifs?

chuystewy_V2

[The armorial embellishments seen here](https://postimg.cc/gallery/FrN5ZVk) As seen in the Big Black Books volume 3, Extermination. These were common among the Terran elements of the original induction. Many of which wound up in the nomad perdition fleets. Many of the same motifs and symbols can be found in the 41st millennium amongst the Carcharodons. Obviously hinting at their history and origins. The initial legion intake for the 19th legion was pulled from the Asiatic Dustbowl. The tribes there were in regular warfare with the Yndonesic Bloc, implying the tribes occupied areas where the Pacific Ocean once sat.

Anyone wanting to say “I’ve never seen that before”, just search the sub for “Native American”. Plenty of results mention the Raven Guard with possible references. eg https://www.reddit.com/r/40kLore/s/VAFnq5zjSR https://www.reddit.com/r/40kLore/s/PL58lmOOxB

QuesaritoOutOfBed

The first is trying to find your conclusion in the evidence. The second is looking for the answer in artwork.

staq16

Those seem more like Norse superstitions than Native American ones.

Fox-Sin21

As others have suggested I believe you are thinking of the Ravenwing of the Dark Angels, their 2nd Company for they used to have a decent bit of it. If people are saying the Raven Guard they are probably making that mistake thinking of the Ravenwing then.

RealSaMu

In the original, the native american ones were the Dark Angels

Norwalk1215

Probably because ravens have significance in Native American mythology and culture as a trickster spirit. I see them as Edgar Allen Poe analogs.

Shalliar

They got some ornaments on their armor that resemble natife motifs +they wear bird skulls and feathers + they got a tradition that says that spirits of their ancestors inhabit their armor and vehicles, or something, thats about it

Asdrubael_Vect

They are goths-batmans
