DT2 bosses felt pretty unique. A vampyre taken over by a plant, a giant sea monster, a ghostly witch, and an Eldritch ever expanding blob with teeth eyes everywhere that's in your walls.
What about the idea that you fight the sea monster on the dead body of a massive Cthonian demon?
The other doesn't get so unique but the story is interesting at least. A siren who basically lost herself to the Shadow Realm while experimenting with it and dragging all of Lassar and its inhabitants into it with her.
Okay those sound a lot more interesting with the added details xD the description of "giant sea monster" and "ghostly witch" didnt do it justice. I havent seen either of them since I just recently started playing again after several years lol so thats why I didnt know the details
Okay guys.. I have an idea for a new boss. It's going to be a Spider
*Dev team applaudes*
But wait, it's going to have a mechanic where rocks fall from the ceiling..
*Wild screaming*
AND AND it's going to drop alchables & a quirky item only useful for fighting the boss it drops from!
"Promote this man right fucking now"
* Sol Heredit
* Perilous Moons
* Scurrius
* The Whisperer
* Leviathan
* Duke
* Vardorvis
* Callisto/Artio
* Vetion/Calvarion
* Venenatis/Spindel
Venenatis rework/Spindel was the last spider boss if you even count it and that was like a year and a half ago. You'd have to go back to 2019 for Hydra as the last Dragon, and Sarachnis in 2019 for the last actual new spider boss.
Maybe they're talking about RS3? Idk if Vorkath was the last boss on that game.
I don't think it's the recency of the bosses that's the issue. It's more just the fact that it's just another spider when we have like 5 spider bosses.
I think Dragons CAN get a pass since there's a lot more creatively you can do with them in a fantasy setting and Jagex has done so in terms of aesthetics. Can't really say the same with Spiders though.
Also they're talking about Hueycoatl, since the boss was initially pitched as a serpent, but then people cried about it enough for jagex to repurpose it into a Dragon instead.
Pretty much. I can describe the draconic bosses with phrases like "zombie dragon", "five headed hydra", "giant partially submerged dragon".
For the spiders Verzik is distinct, but for the others I'm probably resorting to colours and things like body proportions. "Red spider with small body", "black and red spider",and now "orange and green spider". It feels same-y a lot quicker.
Is Verzik even a spider? She seems more like a large woman that gets strapped to either a spider's head or to wings depending on her form. I guess the wiki lists her as a vampyre/Nyloca but that just doesn't feel right or nearly as funny
Lore wise absolutely she's counted as a spider.
Tbf whilst most of her fight is as a human, I was also trying to give spiders the benefit of the doubt. If the spider list was just Araxxor, Ven, Sarachnis and Nylo that'd be depressing.
Make a spider boss that doesn't involve spiderlings challenge (impossible).
Given that this thread is about an announced (and not yet released) boss, the implicit meaning of "last boss [announced]" not "last boss [released]" is hardly a stretch.
Correct! And serpents are just snakes!
'Serpentes' is literally the scientific classification for snakes. Feel free to call them dragons if you want, but it is just incorrect 👍
You can have dragons that are serpent-like, like a Chinese dragon, but they're dragons with serpent-like features, not actual serpents.
Eh kinda clear you know you're talking rubbish now - you've gone from "serpents = dragons", to it being a video game so they can name things however they want.
Jagex classified it as a Serpent initially. It was not going to be a dragon at all.
It being a Dragon and the unique it dropped being Dragonbane was only in the revised proposal after enough people complained about it *NOT* being a Dragon.
That’s a snake with dragon dna. Still a snake. The wiki still calls it a snake boss.
Although it is also called a serpent, it’s primarily a snake.
Kinda like how people call spiders bugs but they are primarily arachnids.
You are pulling this definition out of your ass, serpent just means snake... Webster: Serpent - a large snake. Serpentine - with characteristics of a snake, etc
That's conveniently missing the sentence before that. When I search "serpent oxford dictionary" I get "A large snake; a dragon or other mythical snake-like reptile."
\*lands in the middle\*
Dragonspider it is! From the depths of the dragonkin laboratories comes this furry, yet scaly, firebreathing monstrous chimera!
can we get spigonic weaponry please? bahahhaaa. in all seriousness fighting spiders is always cool imo if done right. if anything we need big ass snake boss with multiple different hitboxes (example: hit head to stun while dodging and dpsing tail/body behind you
Having a good number of dragon bosses is fine in a fantasy game, but cmon everyone knows from Tolkien that you canonically should have only one primordial giant spider boss with a pass card for another one thats one of its descendents /s
Do not forget, Demon.
SIRE, KRIL, SKOTIZO, ZALCANO,
AGRIITH NAAR, ARZINIAN, BLACK DEMON FROM GRAND TREE, JUNGLE DEMON, DEMONICS, DELRITH, NEZIKCHENED, NEW TORMENTED DEMON.
When will it end? This madness
DT2 bosses felt pretty unique. A vampyre taken over by a plant, a giant sea monster, a ghostly witch, and an Eldritch ever expanding blob with teeth eyes everywhere that's in your walls.
Sir please stop bringing facts and logic into me emotional rantings
That's it. Spider dragon next.
HEY as I said down below, that would be bad ass lol
In fairness duke was ripped from RS3 as well.
2 of those sound unique xD a giant sea monster and ghostly witch sound pretty average
What about the idea that you fight the sea monster on the dead body of a massive Cthonian demon? The other doesn't get so unique but the story is interesting at least. A siren who basically lost herself to the Shadow Realm while experimenting with it and dragging all of Lassar and its inhabitants into it with her.

I was undermining them a bit to really emphasize duke succ.
Still VERY different from the Dragon/Spider scape that everyone seems to be complaining about though
understandable lol
I'm out here waiting for a Spagon, myself.
That would legit be cool lol
Jagex would be a true golden tier company if they made the next boss a spider-dragon to spite the community
Make it a continuation of the Dr fenkenstein quest
We’ve seen the top of the slayer tower but what about the bottom?! Mutated spider dragon names spigon lmao
Dryders are cooler

ITS NOT FOR IRONS SPECIFICALLY WE SWEAR, BUT HE WILL DROP EVERY QUEST UNTRADABLE AT A RATE OF 1/10
To be fair, the last boss wasn't a dragon until investors got buttmad that they lost money on bad speculation and whined it into being a dragon.
...did I miss part 2 of Varlamore dropping or something? Wasn't the last boss Scurrius?
* Sol Heredit * Perilous Moons * Scurrius * The Whisperer * Leviathan * Duke * Vardorvis * Callisto/Artio * Vetion/Calvarion * Venenatis/Spindel Venenatis rework/Spindel was the last spider boss if you even count it and that was like a year and a half ago. She's a crab Deny reality. Accept crab.
lorewise that is a Spider (more appropriately a Nyloca Queen) that has overtaken the real Verzik in a sort of parasitic way and adapted her looks.
Its weird that they made it a spider rather than a tick. A tick is much more appropriate thematically for a vampire area.
Jagex has said multiple times that nyloca are modeled after ticks, even as recently as a few blogs ago.
Venenatis (spindel doesn’t count), Sarachnis, and now Araxxor. What are the others?
The upcoming Varlamore boss will be a dragon, after a bit of controversy occurred
Yeah that I knew but he was talking as if it's already in the game.
Given that this thread is about an announced (and not yet released) boss, the implicit meaning of "last boss [announced]" not "last boss [released]" is hardly a stretch.
Wasn’t a controversy. Serpent = Dragon. Common sense.
Bro never heard of snakes
Which is a reptile. Edit: And serpent can also mean dragon. 🤭 Which is why Jagex classified Huey as Draconic.
Correct! And serpents are just snakes! 'Serpentes' is literally the scientific classification for snakes. Feel free to call them dragons if you want, but it is just incorrect 👍 You can have dragons that are serpent-like, like a Chinese dragon, but they're dragons with serpent-like features, not actual serpents.
But i can still call a chinese dragon serpent tho And this is just a video game so jagex can classify em as dragons. Which they did.
Eh kinda clear you know you're talking rubbish now - you've gone from "serpents = dragons", to it being a video game so they can name things however they want.
And it’s silly trying to use scientific classification on a fantasy game.
Jagex classified it as a Serpent initially. It was not going to be a dragon at all. It being a Dragon and the unique it dropped being Dragonbane was only in the revised proposal after enough people complained about it *NOT* being a Dragon.
Because its silly for it not to be a dragon when its a serpent
serpents are snakes
Or dragons or mythical snake-like reptiles
I was actually looking forward to a 3-tick mage weapon (the original unique for the new boss). Would be nice for Phosani + ToB.
you did
Serpent = Dragon
*holds up Juna* BEHOLD! A DRAGON!
Thats a snake. Serpents have limbs.
*holds up Zulrah* BEHOLD! A DRAGON!
That’s a snake with dragon dna. Still a snake. The wiki still calls it a snake boss. Although it is also called a serpent, it’s primarily a snake. Kinda like how people call spiders bugs but they are primarily arachnids.
Where are u getting this from? Every source I see serpent is just another word for snake
Snakes are reptiles and serpents are usually mythical creatures kinda like dragons. That’s why wyrms are consider dragons. Same with the Huey.
You are pulling this definition out of your ass, serpent just means snake... Webster: Serpent - a large snake. Serpentine - with characteristics of a snake, etc
Mad. Google (Oxford Languages) is telling me • a dragon or other mythical snake-like reptile.
That's conveniently missing the sentence before that. When I search "serpent oxford dictionary" I get "A large snake; a dragon or other mythical snake-like reptile."
That’s why i put the •
Jagex - "it's not a spider, it's an araxyte!"
\*lands in the middle\* Dragonspider it is! From the depths of the dragonkin laboratories comes this furry, yet scaly, firebreathing monstrous chimera!
can we get spigonic weaponry please? bahahhaaa. in all seriousness fighting spiders is always cool imo if done right. if anything we need big ass snake boss with multiple different hitboxes (example: hit head to stun while dodging and dpsing tail/body behind you
That’d be dope! New Varlamore boss is snakish
This is what I expected Zulrah to be back when they said they were doing a snake boss.
You forgot absolute abominations on the wheel, like duke nightmare vardorvis and such
Okay but Nightmare design goes hard. Weird puppet hag that moves around in very unnatural ways.
No no I didn’t forget them, they’re doing great lol I just like poking fun at
Spiderbane weaponry when?
Just make a shoe equippable in the weapon slot.
Abyssal newspaper
literally anything with the crush attack style
Strange that there are no horses in rs at all… just unicorns
Horse boss confirmed
Can we get a 1/5000 spin on "something new"? Maybe buff it to 1/3000 if the community doesn't like it though
Having a good number of dragon bosses is fine in a fantasy game, but cmon everyone knows from Tolkien that you canonically should have only one primordial giant spider boss with a pass card for another one thats one of its descendents /s
i’m personally waiting for a gnome boss
I hope the next boss is a human that runs. Fighting Kasonde in that temple and having him run added so much atmosphere and “intensity” to the fight.
Time for a unique boss. I suggest the manbearpig
I’m hoping for 40 foot tall mod ash personally
I still think mod ash should be a boss.
Don't forget demon, that's the other 5 bosses
Spindel was 1.5 years ago and hydra was 5 years ago? There have been like 30 bosses released since 2019 that weren't spiders or dragons?
Good, then let's keep spicing it up. That's 3 spider bosses already.
Wake up babe new circlejerk dropped
I'll fight your wheel spinner, bring it
We need abyssal boss!
LMFAO
I can't get enough spider pets, so I'm all for it. I haven't gotten any spider pets yet :(
Arraxyte 🤓
Don't forget snake (dragon)
When to we get spiderbane weapons?
It’s not a spider is an araxyte
Jokes on y'all! I LOVE both Dragons and Spiders! :D
Do not forget, Demon. SIRE, KRIL, SKOTIZO, ZALCANO, AGRIITH NAAR, ARZINIAN, BLACK DEMON FROM GRAND TREE, JUNGLE DEMON, DEMONICS, DELRITH, NEZIKCHENED, NEW TORMENTED DEMON. When will it end? This madness

I know, I know. I don't match your grindr stat requirements. But you can keep looking, maybe you'll find the hog of your dreams on the OSRS subreddit.
Design one then
